Opis:
Neuromancer (1984) by William Gibson is considered the first novel representing cyberpunk, a sub-genre of science fiction literature. A vision of a world from some near future, modernized, and at the same time degraded by technology, has been reflected in numerous films. The importance of the role that the cinema itself played in the shaping of the aesthetics of the cyberpunk prose should also be remembered. The example of Neuromancer shows that this influence was not limited to inspirations with plots of such films as Escape from New York (1981) by John Carpenter, but that – most importantly – it manifested itself in the specifically “cinematic” visuality of Gibson’s literary language.

Opis:
The article is aimed at presenting the category of science capital as a new category in the field of pedagogical research. Science capital as a construct was proposed in the second decade of the 21st century by the team of Louise Archer from King’s College. This category consists of: (1) scientific forms of cultural capital, (2) behavior and practices related to science, and (3) scientific forms of social capital. The text presents the development of this concept together with a discussion of its elements and their meaning. Scientific capital can be one of the greatest wealth of society, and its use depends on the future development of not only individual units, but also the country and the possibility of high achievements in the fields of science. This is a very current issue, therefore it is important to better understand the shaping of the science capital of young people. The text also reviews the previous empirical studies devoted to the analyzed category. On this basis, it was concluded that scientific capital as an educational variable is still subjected to reconceptualization, requires refinement and further exploration.

This is a review of research conducted by the Center for Interdisciplinary Studies and the Copernicus Center for Interdisciplinary Studies in the field of the history of philosophy of nature and the history of philosophy of science in Poland in the inter-war period. In spite of the domination of positivistic philosophy that tended to ignore philosophy of nature, this kind of philosophizing was quite popular in Poland. The review begins with a summary of works related to the history of science, and then deals, in some detail, with works on the theory of evolution and the theory of relativity, especially with their philosophical aspects. The remaining part of the review is devoted to the principal personalities of that period, namely: Władysław Heinrich, Władysław Natanson, Tadeusz Grabowski, Marian Smoluchowski, Zygmunt Zawirski and Joachim Metallmann.

Opis:
The objection raised by Davidson against Kuhn in article "On the Very Idea of Conceptual Scheme" that the argument presented in "The Structure of Scientific Revolution" was inconsistent is incorrect. Kuhn's conception belongs to psychology and sociology and his work could be titled "An Outline of Psychology and Sociology of Scientific Research". Consequently he is interested only and only in psychologi-cal reasons that affect scientists' theoretical decisions. E.g. his considerations concerning neutral observational language are polemous against thesis that language like that could be somehow useful for interpretation of what scientists do and also against thesis that it could be useful for scientists themselves. The difficulty of un-derstanding above paradigmata does not consist on conceptual schemata meant logically as Davidson reads it but on different cognitive attitude and different manual sets of concepts. To explain the controversy logical and psychological concepts of meaning are distinguished. Davidson means the proper, Kuhn does the latter. Psy-chological meaning concists on what associations and feelings are evocated by utterances in the recever's mind. When Kuhn says that after a revolution scientists live in another world he means only that the language with witch they describe the reality has different psychological meaning. And this is that kind of meaning that cannot be translated and is lost when you discuss above paradigmata. From Kuhn's point of view it is possible to translate logical meaning of scientific utterances from before a revolution, and he does it. The psychological meaning can be only described but not translated.

In the experiment we examined the behaviour of the participants at the two seemingly equivalent decision situations. At the first situation the participants, aimed to avoid a decisive answer, can only refuse at all, neither Yes nor No. But at the second situation they can choose an additional option I-don’t-know. It was proved that, even in the anonymous survey, the same participants tried to guess the proper Yes or No answers, signifi cantly more oft en at the fi rst situation than at the second one. Th erefore, the option I-don’t-know creates the better opportunity to obtain unbiased information. Th en, the observed relationship between the proportion of Yes versus No answers and the frequency of the I-don’t-know answers gives an additional insight into reliability of the obtained data.

One thing we cannot do is failing to address the issue of ‘what next’? Where are we heading? What are our objectives on the horizon of dreams and not short-term solutions? Where is mankind heading as a whole? It is you economists and managers I am aiming my questions at. I am incapable of finding a clear answer but I sincerely hope to discover it in your dissertations (going beyond your master, doctorate and habilitation theses). Thanks to the brilliant paradigm, our civilisation has made achievements which it tends to forget. Mankind today is living more comfortably than ever before. I want to raise a question if we are conscious of the fact that our privileges should be shared by all inhabitants of our planet. I wish to reflect on the good of a man – what does a human need to be fulfilled in all dimensions, not in the mere material one. How do we conceive of the future organization and identity of mankind? I asked school principals: Is it good to allow the sexes to become alike, to see women become masculine and men effeminate? Is the contrast of the sexes vital to the preservation of the human race? Does the tension resulting from the diversification matter? I do not intend to present my own intuitions; my wish would be finding some answers in humanities. Sadly, doctorate and habilitation theses tend to focus on marginal issues. Why does contemporary theology differ so considerably from what the contemporary world, contemporary physics or mathematics deal with on a regular basis?

Opis:
Interactive scientific exhibitions in Poland The Exploratorium opened in San Francisco in 1968 is generally considered to be a prototype of all science centres or interactive exhibitions. However, its creator, the American physicist Frank Oppenheimer (1912–1985) was inspired by European science and technology museums, such as Science Museum in London or Deutches Museum in Munich. In the 19th century such museums were also present in Poland, but the first establishment, in which interactive models were purposefully used, most often by pressing the button, was the Museum of Industry and Technology which opened in Warsaw in 1933. Over the last dozen years or so, various initiatives for the promotion of science, and in particular the natural sciences, have been launched throughout Poland. The concept initiated in the US some 45 years ago is popular in many countries around the world, but it really established itself in Poland in the early 21st century. Two Kraków-based museums – the Jagiel- lonian University Museum and the Museum of Municipal Engineering – played a pioneer role in this respect. Initiatives to create interactive exhibitions were also launched in other cities across Poland – Szczecin, Gdańsk, Gdynia, Toruń and Wałbrzych. The highlight of those projects was the opening of the Copernicus Science Centre in Warsaw in November 2010.

Opis:
This study presents an analysis of the unprecedented growth of international research collaboration in Europe in terms of distribution of co-authorship and citation of globally indexed publications over the last decade (2009–2018). The dynamics of change that emerge from this analysis are as follows: the increasing level of international cooperation is drawing key European systems away from institutional cooperation, with stable and strong national cooperation. National scientific output, i.e. the total number of publications, remains stable, and the entire increase in the number of publications over the period should be attributed to international co-authorship publications, which are the only driving force behind the increase in the number of publications in Europe. Due to the emergence of global networked science, in which the role of national policies in cooperation is decreasing and the role of scientists is growing, the key to the development of cooperation in Europe (and in Poland) is the readiness of individual scientists to undertake international cooperation. Researchers cooperate internationally when it is profitable for them in terms of academic prestige, scientific recognition and access to research funding, which is suggested by the three models proposed here (the model of credibility cycle in science, the model of prestige maximization and the model of global science). The total number of analyzed articles indexed in the Scopus database was 5.5 million, including 2.2 million articles written in international cooperation.

Afrofuturism plays an important part in the cultural landscape of contemporary american, african, and african-american culture, being integral to the popular culture also in other modern societies (afropean culture). Afrofuturism is, as Ytasha L. Womack wrote, “an intersection of imagination, technology, the future and liberation”. The aim of this work is to shed light on the depiction of science, art, culture and future in afrofuturism. The essay focuses on the use of scientific discourse in afrofuturistic narratives (novels, movies, graphic novels, musical works). The question is: Is afrofuturism also interpretive research and the critical theory of a culture?
