The authors offer a medium-term projection for Poland’s economic growth in 2007-2011. The forecast was prepared with the use of an annual macroeconomic model developed at the Łódź University Faculty of Econometric Models and Forecasts. The model, which takes into account a number of exogenous variables and the latest trends in both the Polish economy and around the world, yields moderately optimistic conclusions about the possible paths of the country’s economic growth. In addition to the forecast, the authors discuss basic problems and threats to Poland’s future economic growth.

Opis:
JESSICA [Joint European Support for Sustainable Investment in City Areas] – is an initiative developed by the European Commission and the European Investment Bank, in collaboration with the Council of Europe Development Bank (CEB). Its aim is to support sustainable urban development investments. In Poland the initiative finances projects eligible within Regional Operational Programmes in the priorities related with urban regeneration. Within JESSICA, special Urban Development Funds or Holding Funds are established in order to support projects, forming part of local regeneration programmes with the application of financial instruments and structural funds. JESSICA has been developed as an answer to the development needs of urban areas, having the key importance for local, regional and national growth, at the same time being an initiative supporting profitable projects only. JESSICA beneficiaries have access to advantageous financial instruments that may vary depending on the region [equity, loans and/or guarantees]. The basic aim of the paper is to define the implementation scope of the JESSICA revolving mechanism and to present an attempt at evaluating its efficiency in Silesia.

Opis:
The processes of modeling, design and verification of business scenarios falls into one of the most difficult areas of analytical systems. In order to simplify the implementation of those processes and introduce brand new business scenarios, it is necessary to access credible, integrated, and historical information. The article presents a data warehouse model, which is equipped with an adaptive mechanisms and servo adjustment methods (changing information needs of the organization) that will power the processes of construction, verification and modeling of business scenarios with the necessary data associated with the current and projected strategy of the organization. In addition, the data warehouse will provide analysts (for the process of creating business scenarios) with highly credible and historical data obtained from previous organization activities. This will help them (through simulation) to assess the expected scenarios impact.

The research on the phenomenon of variantivity in natural languages should comprise all their subsystems. Much attention has been given to phonetic, morphological, lexical, phraseological phenomena, while strictly paremiological ones have been handled to a lesser extent to date. The discussed issue of proverbial innovations in the contemporary Polish language partly fills in the research gap. The factographic material collected in the paper has shown a significant nominative and expressive potential of paremic units fulfilled as a result of numerous modifications of the canonical form of the proverbs used commonly in the Polish language. The said results could be obtained from the paremiological material excerpted with the use of www.google.com search engine in generally available online resources. The criterion adopted for selecting the initial units was the indicator of their frequency based on the socalled paremiological minimum. Afterwards, a secondary modified proverb was compared to its original, which enabled a description of basic innovation mechanisms and identification of the function of a specific registered innovation.

The main purpose of this paper is to present the issues related to organizational change in the context of the challenges faced by both managers and other employees of a company. The proposed view is anchored in the psychodynamic approach to organization and management. This article is focused on the superior-subordinate relationship in the context of change, presenting it from the perspective of intrapsychic processes. The author makes an attempt of characterizing both rational, conscious processes and the processes that occur beneath the surface of consciousness, which are automatic and unconscious. The latter usually conceal strong emotions, both positive (hope and curiosity) and negative (anxiety, anger, disappointment), as well as the beliefs and motives of actions undertaken by organization members. The defence mechanisms questionnaire (DSQ) was used to identify the automatic application of mechanisms to cope with difficult situations. The results indicate that neurotic mechanisms dominate among the surveyed managers, specially idealization, but also pseudoaltruism gains high level. However, more dangerous and counterproductive from the perspective of team work, are such mechanisms as projection, denial, isolation and displacement. Interviews with managers made it possible to develop a picture of the organizational change from the perspective of managers.

The article addresses the issue of the relationship between cognitive and affective processes, in particular mood and thinking. The aim of the study was to examine the relationship between mood and rational reasoning as well as the role of the systems of direct and indirect regulation of behaviour in this process. Two study groups (N = 51 and N = 53), a control group (N = 51) and a group of so-called “listening persons” (N = 104) took part in the study. The following measures were used: Mood Scale, Tasks Set, Questionnaire for Listening Person (the author’s techniques) and A. Kolańczyk’s AR Scale. The results show that those in whom negative mood was induced, solved tasks better and were more aware of their sensual experiences than those in whom positive mood was induced (which increased the awareness of reflections). However, the hypothesis that greater rationality of reasoning results from the interactive influence of both mood and systems of regulation of behaviour activity was not supported.

Without any doubt since 1989 one may observe increasing women’s role in Polish political life. One of proofs for it is higher number of women registered as candidates before parliamentary elections, as well as higher percentage of women in Polish Sejm. In spite of this, Polish women are still less active in the political life than men, which results from existence of several barriers hindering their participation and involvement in politics. The main aim of this article is to analyze the opinion of Poles on the activity of women in political life and on the introduction of additional mechanisms having the potential to increase women’s participation in political bodies.

The paper presents a fragment of the author’s research into interferences in in-tercultural communication with the participation of foreign students learning Polish. The research made it possible to record various stressful situations and stressogenic factors, including “face¬ threatening” ones, namely those involving the risk of losing one’s face, to which the foreign interlocutor, or sometimes al-so the other participant of the communication act, were exposed. The aim of the research is to detect mechanisms causing the image of the interlocutor or interlocutors to be upset (undermined). It also identifies and discusses didactic and non¬ didactic situations causing negative emotional perceptions and mental states at least in one of the communicating parties. The paper uses the concepts of “face” by E. Goffman, P. Brown and Levinson, as well as conceptual appa-ratus and research methodology of American communication ethnographers.

W przemyśle spożywczym często stosujemy materiały sypkie (ziarna zbóż, produkty ich przemiału, cukier, dodatki smakowe, granulaty itp.). Operowanie materiałami ziarnistymi jest trudne. Mimo licznych badań zrozumienie ich zachowania się jest nadal niedostateczne. Prowadzonym operacjom stale towarzyszy segregacja utrudniająca właściwe przetwarzanie. Poznanie jej mechanizmów staje się koniecznością. Omówiono istotę segregacji i podstawowe jej mechanizmy. Wiedza ta jest niezbędna do świadomego wpływania na zachowanie się zróżnicowanego materiału sypkiego.
Segregation appears on processing granular materials. The mechanisms of segregation were presented. Reasons of segregation and her conditioning were published. These facts permit to take a decision consciously aiming to minimalizing segregation working.

Mechanizmy są przykładami łańcuchów kinematycznych zamkniętych o strukturze drzewa. Zapis równań ruchu takich układów we współrzędnych złączowych, wymaga wcześniejszego myślowego rozcięcia łańcuchów zamkniętych i sformułowania równań więzów domykających. W rezultacie dynamika mechanizmu jest opisana układem równań różniczkowo-algebraicznych, które są trudne do rozwiązania. W pracy przedstawiono sposób, w którym oddziaływania między rozciętymi myślowo ciałami modelowane są z użyciem sprężyn o odpowiednio dobranych współczynnikach sztywności. Podejście takie eliminuje równania więzów domykających, dzięki czemu równania ruchu przyjmują postać równań różniczkowych zwyczajnych.
Mechanisms are examples of closed kinematic chains with a tree-like structure. In order to derive the equations of motion, closed kinematic chains have to be cut and constraint equations have to be formulated. As a result equations of motion form set of differential-algebraic equations with index 3, which are difficult to solve. The paper presents a method modeling interactions between bodies at the cut joints by means of spring elements with appropriate stiffeness. Such approach eliminates constraints equations, and thus the equations of motion form a set of ordinary differential equations.

The aim of this study was to investigate the defence styles of individuals with type D personality. The study involved 62 individuals: 31 were respondents diagnosed with the coronary heart disease and 31 healthy subjects (without any cardiovascular system conditions). The average age in both groups was 61 years. Three research techniques were used in the study: a survey including demographic and medical parameters; a questionnaire for the evaluation of the type D personality – DS14 designed by Denollet; Defense Style Questionnaire DSQ- 40 designed by Bond and Wesley (1996). The subjects with the distressed personality made use of all defence styles, but they chose the least adaptive the most often. The non-adaptive style, imaginatively-distorting style and self-sacrificing style were presented more frequently by individuals with the distressed personality, while the adaptive style was chosen more often by respondents not demonstrating any traits of the type D personality. Meanwhile, the non-adaptive style prevailed in both study groups. The type D personality is associated most strongly with such defence mechanisms, as: somatization, consumption activities, projection, sublimation, acting out, regression, reaction formation, social withdrawal, fantasy and isolation. The defence mechanisms of suppression and inhibition are not specific for the distressed personality.
