Opis:
Art patron, art collector and art lover – Scipione Caffarelli Borghese Scipione Borghese was an Italian Cardinal, art collector and patron of the arts. A member of the Borghese family, he was the patron of the painter Caravaggio and the artist Bernini. His legacy is the establishment of the art collection at the Villa Borghese in Rome. The Cardinal was a great collector of modern and ancient art: he built the Villa Borghese and improved the Villa Mondragone to house his collection. The Borghese Collection began around a collection of paintings by Caravaggio, Raphael, and Titian, and of ancient Roman art. Scipione also bought widely from leading painters and sculptors of his day, and his commissions include two portrait busts by Gian Lorenzo Bernini. His collection was poetically described as early as 1613 by Scipione Francucci. In 1607, the Pope gave the Cardinal 107 paintings which had been confiscated from the studio of the painter Cavalier D’Arpino. In the following year, Raphael’s Deposition was secretly removed from the Baglioni Chapel in the church of San Francesco in Perugia and transported to Rome to be given to Scipione through a papal motu proprio. Borghese used the immense wealth that he acquired as Cardinal Nephew to assemble one of the largest and most impressive art collections in Europe.

Opis:
Culture and cultural animation in the context of political and business activitiesThe article is related to competences and tasks of culture animators and culture managers in the contemporary world. Despite the diversity of tasks and functions between them, there are also competencies needed by both. These competencies are essential in solving a number of similar problems encountered in their work. One of the main problems is the issue of „profit”, understood in a broad sense far beyond the purely mathematical operation, although referring to the economy as the art of rational management of resources in order to add them together. For both the culture animator and the culture manager, the main idea consists in the multiplication of social resources, social potential, investing in human capital through co-creation of cultural events and programs animating community. It is therefore necessary to redefine the concept of profit (in the context of activity of the culture manager and animator), i.e. the perception of profit in two dimensions – a social and an economic one (a social profit achieved by the efficient use of resources of each type, including financial and social capitals). The ethics of the culture animator and the culture manager relate to many areas: creating educational offer, cultural events and animation activities programming, responsibility for the range of products and services, their safety (in the context of mass culture), building lasting relationships with customers based on trust, quality, and adequate promotion of the projects, programs, products and services, as well as diagnosing social needs. Contrary to what J. Gajda wrote, the objectives of the activity of culture manager and animator, are not set in opposition to each other. In both cases, the objectives cannot be achieved, if the means and methods have been in conflict with the principles of the Code of Ethics. Cultural managers and animators, should inspire the same way of the understanding culture and its role in human life, especially as „Paideia”. Only at a later step as a product, but a product of special value, not only attractively packaged. An important issue is also the question of the evaluation of the social impact of the animator’s and manager’s work in the context of the spent funds. There is a lack of effective, objective and measurable indicators for monitoring and evaluating their work. Another problem is the reference to the principles of corporate social responsibility – in the absence of a uniform system of values. The paper was presented at the conference „The Managerial Trends in the Culture Animation”, 27th, May 2010.

Opis:
W artykule przedstawione zostały wybrane obrazki z życia i twórczości prof.
The presented paper is a report from a presentation delivered in December 2013, at the end of the “Year of Jan Czochralski” celebrated in Poland. For that reason the life and achievements of Prof. Jan Czochralski (1885–1953) were presented in a very short way. Jan Czochralski was a well known Polish chemist and metallurgist of the fi rst half of the 20th century working in Germany and Poland. His achievements were numerous and only three were presented in a more detailed way. The fi rst was a “radiomicroscope” for examination of the surface of metallic samples, which may be regarded as a prototype of modern scanning probe microscope (SPM) awarded with the Nobel Prize in 1986. The second achievement made Czochralski a famous scientist and a rich man prior to WWII – this was a special alloy for railway sliding bearing shells called “B -metal”. The third discovery gave the world recognition to Jan Czochralski after the war – this was the so -called “Czochralski method” for pulling a single crystal from the melt. Without this method used to obtain single silicon crystals necessary to modern electronics, our contemporary civilization would not have been possible. Among his other achievements it is worth mentioning a development of a type of hair perm lotion and a powder against nasal infections, as well as his activities as a patron of culture, poet and novelist. Despite these achievements, the name of Jan Czochralski was a subject of infamy in Poland, for his alleged collaboration with the Germans during World War II. After he fi nally had given proof to his patriotic cooperation with the Home Army (Armia Krajowa), he regained his good name in the spring of 2011. Therefore, the year 2013 was rightly declared by the Parliament of the Republic of Poland as the “Year of Jan Czochralski”.
