The article presents relations between language development and cognitive functions in children with FASD. The authors characterise particular cognitive functions connected with perception, processing and storage of information as well as control and self-regulation of behaviour. They write about linguistic knowledge as closely coexisting with other cognitive functions. The authors also emphasise two things. First, the fact that the quality of cognitive, social and emotional functioning of a child depends equally on the harmonious development of perception, motor, language, mental and social skills, and second: the knowledge of the specificity of cognitive development, which is reflected in the language development, can be helpful in making a diagnosis and preparing a therapeutic program for children with FASD.

The purpose of the article is to identify the specialized (exogenous) functions of Polish capital – Warsaw – and to analyze this town functional structure in the period 2004- -2014. The discussed period is characterized by the development of country economy, which coincided with the Polish accession to the European Union structures. The conducted research covered the size, structure and changes of employment. The research was conducted at the background of economic base theory with regard to a city using two measures – surplus employee index (SEI) and Florence’s index of specialization (FIS). The research can turn out useful in urban development planning and in city management.

The article presents several examples of different mathematical structures and interprets their properties related to the existence of universal functions. In this context, relations between the problem of totality of elements and possible forms of universal functions are analyzed. Furthermore, some global and local aspects of the mentioned functional systems are distinguished and compared. In addition, the paper attempts to link universality and totality with the dynamic and static properties of mathematical objects and to consider the problem of limitations in the construction of structures combining harmoniously the availability of information at the local and global level.

The paper deals with the presence of verbonominal analytical constructions on Polish TV at the beginning of the 21st century. It is a continuation of the research on such constructions carried out in the 70ies of the 20th century and at the turn of the century. The author deals with verbal analytical constructions on Polish TV. To create a contrast, she gives examples of collocation in poetry. The author proves that analitisms are used on TV in the following functions: 1) retarding (slowing down speech pace), 2) imitating (use of cliches), 3) demonstrative (image creation), 4) metalinguistic (conscious selection of collocations instead of verbs) and for 5) stylisation and 6) euphemisation of speech. The conducted research proved that analitisms are used both by TV programme hosts and their invited speakers. It also occurred that the frequency of analitisms on TV is another specific function of the TV language. Earlier, it was proved that TV language is predominantly colloquial.

Executive functions in older adults of various level of educational needs In old age the decrease of cognitive performance connected with natural ageing processes is observed. The deterioration primarily affects memory and attention functions (Jagodzińska, 2008; Oberauer, 2006). It was indicated that the level of cognitive competences is strongly connected with learning (Brooks, Weaver, Scialfa, 2006). People in old age who are more intellectually active have less problems in cognitive functioning (Jagodzińska, 2008). The article presents results of studies conducted to verify hypothesis concerning the relation between the level of educational needs and efficiency of their executive functions. 25 people, aged 71-88, participated in the study. Educational needs and four aspects of executive functions: plasticity, inhibition, working memory and planning were measured. Results confirms the relationship between educational needs of seniors and two aspects of executive functions: plasticity and working memory, while the most significant relations concerns plasticity.

We deal with the functional equation (so called addition formula) of the form f(x + y) = F(f(x),f(y)), where F is an associative rational function. The class of associative rational functions was described by A. Chéritat [1] and his work was followed by a paper of the author. For function F defined by F(x,y) = ϕ−1(ϕ(x) + ϕ(y)), where ϕ is a homographic function, the addition formula is fulfilled by homographic type functions. We consider the class of the associative rational functions defined by formula F(u,v) =uv αuv + u + v, where α is a fixed real numer.

Interpersonal communicate frequently refers to the transmission and receiv-ing of information between the sender and the recipient, or between a small group of people remaining in direct contact with each other. Full communica-tion process should be carried out in two directions. On one side of the sender transmits your message, and on the other the recipient responds so that the back sends the message to the sender. Bidirectional communication process expresses itself through interpersonal communication as undertaken in the context of the exchange of verbal and non-verbal signals in order to achieve better interoperability. When you communicate interpersonally is inseparable. the unity of time and space the participants of the process. This is the basic social process, which forms the basis for other people in society.

Corruption has become a major global problem. Proponents of the “good corruption” thesis believe that in certain conditions corruption can be conducive to economic and political development. To them, corruption is “grease” that lubricates the rigid wheels of the bureaucratic machine, and is a legitimate mechanizm of political inclusion of the excluded masses. Yet, empirical analysis of the positive functions of corruption in the Soviet Union, the United States of America and certain Asian countries revealed that corruption is first and foremost a symptom of political and economic system dysfunction. One can speak of the positive functions of corruption only in the context of the system’s serious malfunction concerning the fulfillment of the society’s expectations coupled with the lack of prospects for this system’s reform.

On the one hand, adoptive family is an alternative for married couples who are not able to have progeny, on the other hand, it is an alternative for social orphans to have proper family. So as well as fulfilling a lot of functions of biological families, adoptive families also compensate for social orphanhood. Only a healthy family can face such a responsible task. According to modern psychology, pedagogics and sociology, family is a small social group, a community which follows certain rules. A healthy family is a functional family, which makes every one of its members happy and gives them possibility to fulfill their needs. There are all sorts of difficulties, failures and arguments in such a family, however, mutual relationships and the potential of its particular members motivates to look for satisfying solutions for every one of them. So, what should characterize a healthy adoptive family, what inner-family factors and outer conditions might disturb its functioning. These questions need to be tried and answered already in the diagnosing and preparation period for the adoptive parents candidates. It is also important to prepare a child (depending on age), because both the child and its future parents bring to the newly created adoptive family their genetic heritage, health condition, previous experiences and life plans, hopes, value, skills, mutual relations, ways to communicate and deal with difficulties and so on. Final court decision on adoption should not be the end, but the beginning of post-adoptive work with the new family, in order to strengthen its proper and healthy functioning.

Szadek, one of the oldest towns in the Łódź region, grew on the crossing of mediaeval routes connecting such cities as Piotrków, Uniejów, Łęczyca and Sieradz. Such location, strategic in terms of communication links, was favourable to Szadek’s development and contributed to the strengthening of its role as an urban settlement performing central functions for the surrounding areas, particularly with regard to administration of territorial (the seat of local government of various levels), judicial and ecclesiastical affairs. There is evidence suggesting that as far back as the 12th century Szadek was functioning as a local administrative and economic centre. In the following centuries it became a major settlement unit providing diverse important functions to the whole district. Today Szadek is a small town which retained only a few of these functions, but nevertheless they reflect its former status on the map of the region. The broad range of services provided by Szadek indicates that it was perceived as a special place in the settlement network. Its changing role and importance as regards the functions performed the historical events which mostly had negative consequences for the town, conducing to its diminished importance on the administrative map of the region and the country.

The article presents functional and semantic characteristics of 38 periphrases of terms relating to unanimated nature excerpted from the poetry of Maria Pawlikowska-Jasnorzewska. Fifteen discussions relate to earth and its shape, two structures are synonyms of the word nature, and twenty-one constructions replace one-word aquatic names. The analysis of intertextual references showed that periphrases refer to folk, literary or cultural patterns. Semantically they relate to Christian, e.g. God’s world ‘earth’; mythological zephyr’s folds ‘waves’ and classical tradition (a glass broken into thousands of sparks ‘lake’).

The paper prepared on the basis of 842 hand-written letters of Zofia Kraszewska to her husband Józef Ignacy, is the author’s next publication of 19th century epistolography.Cosidering the specific features of family letters the author starts from the theory of literaturę, pragmatics and sociolinguistics, which describes variant of language in different social groups.Then he presents some types of derivatives used by Kraszewska to show to the addres- see the situation context of writing, to express her permanent sensitives and temporary affections, as well as to fortify the pragmatic impact of particular letters. They are the equivalent of conversation and should compensate the lack of face-to face contact bet- ween the wife and her lamous husband.
