The article is an extensive review of Joseph North’s book Literary Criticism: A Concise Political History. The author divides the 20th and 21st century literary studies into two orientations: critics and researchers, showing that the domination of the research perspective from the 80s led to a paradoxical depoliticization of criticism and deprivation of its intervention potential. To restore the critical potential, North postulates a return to materialistic aesthetics under the sign of I.A. Richards, which allows him to cross the research horizon in a gesture of intervention into a common reality, justified by a specific aesthetic experience.

Opis:
Contrary to the way it functions in literary criticism, the expression of independence of direct speech appears problematic. The notion of oratio recta (which is of interest to linguists, philosophers, theoreticians of communication, textologists and narratologists) was related to the methodology of Maria Renata Mayenowa who considers the monologue to be 'the supreme structure of any literary text'. With regard to the above, it is claimed that the direct speech always complicates the entire composition of a novel. The narration-structure-related direct speech is, as Wojciech Górny rightly observed, direct and independent, because of tradition, and not because of the hierarchy of the communicational pattern of the novel, in which it is the text that introduces the citation which is more independent. On the other hand, Lubomir Dolezel's term 'clear expression', concerning the border between reproduced fictitious dialogues and the narration, indicates that the direct speech is a more narrator-independent structure than the indirect speech or 'erlebte Rede' (E. Lorck). It is also the very expression 'speech' which causes doubts, it was already Boris Eichenbaum who noted that 'a novel is being written and not wrote down'. If we accept Gérard Genette's point of view that dialogues are reproduced in a novel, the impreciseness of this reproduction would need to be underlined, for it is always a translation of codes connected with oral communication into codes specific to written communication, in the form in which the code is specific to the genre in question. However, the right reception of a novel requires the reader to believe that the narrator really lets protagonists speak. The direct speech is thus direct and independent for the reader in the esthetic sense. It would be difficult to defend the independence of the direct speech in the ontological sense.

Landscape architecture in high mountains is a specific and extraordinary attractive field of scientific research. As well it is a very practical discipline, bringing much utility, because of a worldwide boom of highland tourism and sports. New mountain regions will be open for a mass users, who need buildings and facilities in order to survive, to be safe, and to be comfortable. Evolution of landscape architecture in high mountains has been stimulated by several completely different factors. One of them was just exploring - the basic kind of activity in high mountains - invented, organized and realized by elitist strong people - aristocrats and scientist. Then politics, had to move some interesting streams of development, because of military constructions, sometimes in a very wild, risky places. Finally culture, which is most important in the aspect of aesthetics, technical quality, and good function based on humanist requirements. Conquering landscape in high mountains - step by step, was first of all guided by the pioneers, heroic travellers, adventure men and ladies, showing how to do it. This patterns became more and more popular, next and next achievements were stronger and highly fascinating. So media took over, reporting and promoting high mountains as the greatest satisfaction, fun, way of relaxing, or a way to live. Finally architecture came with a help for people in an extreme landscape conditions. Its evolution - from simple pasture huts, through tourist/climbers shelters, until modern contemporary sophisticated high-tech stations looking somewhere as science-fiction creations, but often as the awful containers thrown into high mountain landscape. The future of landscape architecture in high mountains, is widely open. On one hand - it can be most sophisticated, fascinating creation of marvellous objects composed in a virginal nature. But on the other hand - it can easily be the bad and sad triumph of a primitive boxes production, spoiling the most exotic beauty spots. Landscape architects are necessary in order to avoid this last eventuality.

Artykuł obejmuje zagadnienia z zakresu resocjalizacji kreującej i pedagogiki teatru. Rozważania wynikają z realizacji projektu warsztatów teatralnych w ośrodku kuratorskim z młodzieżą niedostosowaną społecznie. Efektem tych działań był spektakl teatralny, a reakcje i interpretacje odbiorców badano autorskim Kwestionariuszem recepcji widza. Inspiracją do podjęcia tak zakrojonego działania stała się koncepcja twórczej resocjalizacji Marka Konopczyńskiego, zogniskowana wokół rozwijania potencjalności i kreowania nowych, indywidualnych kompetencji. Etapy pracy teatralnej były koherentne i odpowiadały fazom procesu twórczego. Przedmiotem podjętych rozważań jest ostatnia z nich, czyli weryfikacja - ocena trafności idei oraz aktów kreacji, której dokonywali widzowie. Teatr jest dialogiem między nadawcą - kreatorem a odbiorcą - widzem. Ta diada jest tu szczególna, gdyż niecodzienna, osadzona w wymiarach pedagogicznym i kulturalnym. Inicjatorka przedsięwzięcia, a jednocześnie autorka tego opracowania, była ciekawa, w jaki sposób widzowie dokonają percepcji tematu ukazanych obrazów oraz jaki nadadzą im sens, jakie przypiszą znaczenie. Zainteresowanie wzbudzał również wymiar przeżycia estetycznego i emocjonalnego odbiorców spektaklu. Podjęto także próbę odpowiedzi na pytanie: „czy praca teatrem może stanowić konkretną propozycję działań profilaktyczno-wychowawczych, resocjalizacyjnych?”. Recepcja widzów została skategoryzowana poprzez zadane w kwestionariuszu pytania, a całokształt uzyskanych wypowiedzi, tych lapidarnych i narracji o pełniejszym kształcie, tworzy ciekawą, nasyconą humanizmem optykę wydarzenia.
The article covers the subjects related to creative rehabilitation and the pedagogy of theater. The discussions are a result of the realization of a project of theater workshops in a probation center for youths that are socially unfit. The activities resulted in a theater play and the reactions and interpretations of the audience were studied by means of an original Audience Reception Questionnaire. The inspiration for the undertaking was the concept of creative rehabilitation by Marek Konopczyński, centered around the development of potentiality and the creation of new, individual competences. The stages of theater work were coherent and reflected the stages of a creative process. The subject of the discussion is the last stage, so the verification - the evaluation of the accuracy of the idea and the acts of creation, performed by the audience. Theater is a dialogue between the sender - the creator, and the receiver - the audience. This dyad is special in this case as it is unconventionally set in the pedagogical and cultural realm. The initiator of this undertaking and, at the same time, the author was interested in the way the audience would perceive the subject of the presented image and what sense, new approach and meaning would they contribute to it. The aesthetic and emotional spheres of the audience were of great interest. Furthermore, an attempt was made to answer the following question: “is it possible for theater work to become a concrete offer of preventive, educational and rehabilitation efforts?” The reception of the audience was categorized by means of questions, and the entirety of the lapidary statements combined with the fuller narration create very interesting optics of the whole undertaking, which is saturated with humanism.

Opis:
Transparency is one of physical esthetic categories that are used to describe literature and other arts. The main aim of this paper is to show how those esthetic categories are used on three levels: esthetic, performatively dramatic and philosophical in modern literature, theater, film and fine arts. The starting point for those considerations are methods of Italo Calvino (“American lectures”) and Marek Bieńczyk (his collection of essays titled “Transparency”) . Calvino’s category of “transparency” (in his attempt to go beyond anthropocentric cognition with the author’s main question: “Is imagination an instrument of cognition?”) is contrasted with Marek Bieńczyk’s term of “transparency”, who has pointed out the positive aspects of paintings (which are not only giving a feeling of emptiness but also provide certainty of clarity and obviousness). In addition to these categories, lucidity and glassiness are featured and a crystal structure is summoned in the context of mistiness as its opposition.

Opis:
According to the European Landscape Convention, local landscapes have to be identified and assessed. A systemized approach to landscape evaluation can provide a basis for the development of landscape maps. The influence of dense forests on the esthetic value of rural space was evaluated. The new method for evaluating forests' impact on the perceived scenic value of rural landscapes was proposed on the example of a lakeland area. The study was performed in the southern part of the municipality of Pozezdrze (N Poland). The surveyed area is highly attractive for tourists and is situated in between of the popular tourist destinations. The eastern and western part of Pozezdrze are covered by dense forests, whereas the central part is occupied mainly by arable land and settlements. The observed distribution of spatial elements is optimal for analyses of landscape value. Landscape was assessed with Wejchert Impression Curve approach. This method focuses directly on specific landscape components, including forests. The curve expresses an observer's impressions based on four landscape parameters (tab. 1). The impression curve accurately depicts the influence of landscape components on the esthetic value of the surrounding space. Every landscape component is assessed on a scale from 0 to 12 points. The observation points were distributed in a regular grid of 115 squares (500×500 m) covering an area of 2875 ha. The field survey was performed in mid−September 2014 by an expert with 20 years of experience in landscape perception research. Survey scores were assigned to the center of mass of basic survey units. Landscape attractiveness maps were generated with the use of cartograms and by spatial interpolation based on ordinary kriging. The 13−point grading scale was divided into 4 attractiveness categories describing the esthetic value of landscape. The results confirm the hypothesis that dense forests significantly contribute to the esthetic value of rural landscape. Forests and their immediate surroundings ranked in the top two categories of scenic attractiveness. The boundaries of those categories mostly overlapped forest boundaries, indicating that forests highly influence the esthetic value of landscape. The lowest attractiveness categories were identified in areas devoid of large forests.

Reception of Jewish art and rituals as well as their effect on Christian iconography of the wedding of the Old and New Testament, and especially the scenes of The Wedding of Mary and Joseph are the main objects of the author's research. They are concerned with the art of the end of the Middle Ages and the beginning of the modern age. The author's aim is not only to confront the Biblical narration with the art presentations and to distinguish the repertoire of Jewish symbols and objects made by handicraft presented in the scenes of weddings and of wedding parties, but also to show the infiltration of Jewish wedding rituals into Christian ones that can be seen in art.
