Opis:
De medicina by Aulus Cornelius Celsus is the oldest preserved and at the same time the most important source of knowledge about medicine in the Western world until the first century AD. We do not know much about Celus, why De Medicina was forgotten between the 2nd and 9th centuries AD, and whether Celsus was a practicing physician. Was he a professional doctor or surgeon, or just a layperson with medical knowledge? Only one answer will be correct. "Today, De Medicina can be read for the benefit and interest of both physicians and non-professional readers because of its historical value.”

Opis:
According to the researchers, the most intriguing and fascinating work at the Corpus Hippocraticum is the treatise De prisca medicina. It consists of 24 parts in which Hippocrates argues that the human organism is a blend of various substances or humors. Having set forth humoral theory, Hippocrates criticizes the hypothesis about the causes of diseases independent of this theory. Hippocrates medicine, due to the way it is practiced, should be treated as τέχνη, and this term can be translated as proficiency, craftsmanship, skills, craft, and art. Medicine should not use hypotheses or generalizations but should be based on experience and research. The doctor was a researcher, but above all a craftsman, accompanied by students and other doctors, with whom he analyzed every case of disease.

The statutory limitations on issuing official orders were examined. A broader problem was also raised – violations of basic constitutional principles and civil rights.

IntroductionPatient’s confidence is very important in patient – doctor communication. It is very vital when we talk about efficient medical care because it can improve this care significently. It is particularly important for people who can not contact with it easily. Thanks to watching relations between patient and doctor we can get to know the way the patient judges references of the doctor during his professional activities. The aim of the thesisThe aim of these studies was to estimate the level of patient’s confidence after the last medical appointment. The studies were made with the help of Anderson and Dedrick scale. ResultsPatients were satisfied after the appointment when during the examination they could see a telephone and a computer on the desk, medical equipment and other medical things. The doctor was closer than 61 cm from them and patients could not see any physical barriers. During the examination the position of the doctor was open, he used gestures and he was sitting face to face to the patient (angle 180° or 90°). His eyes were at the same level as patient’s eyes. ConclusionsThe ability of proper communication with the patient is a very important element of medical care. However, it is often underestimated. But efficiency of therapy and efficiency of diagnostics depend on these factors.

Opis:
Practising as a physician, especially during the pandemic, was of interest to the legislator several times due to staff shortages and more. The pandemic also forced changes in many paradigms of providing healthcare services. One of them, con-tained in the so-called ‘Special Covid Act’, was to simplify the acquisition of right to practise as a doctor by a foreigner who is not a citizen of a European Union Member State. The study focuses on one of the facilitations introduced: relinquishment of the four-stage examination on knowledge of the Polish language in favor of submitting a statement on the command of the Polish in speech and writing to the extent neces-sary to practise as a doctor, i.e. resignation from an objective, verifiable assessment, in favor of a civil law declaration will, in principle not verifiable at the time of sub-mission. This solution raises a number of doubts and carries the risk of a medical error. First and foremost, a medical interview, one of the key and initial stages of treatment initiation, becomes impossible to conduct. Secondly, it is also difficult to communicate with other medical personnel. Thirdly, it is doubtful whether another statutory obligation will be fulfilled, namely providing information to the patient about their state of health and obtaining consent for treatment. The mechanism of supervision by another doctor who speaks Polish should also be considered insuf-ficient, as due to the lack of such personnel, it will often be impossible to meet this condition. These and other reasons support a negative assessment of the solutions introduced. A much better solution would be to provide intensive learning of the Polish language, a solution that is proven and used successfully. Referring to the language of the EU directives on the recognition of professional qualifications, it is a “reasonable and necessary” direction.

Opis:
Na liście 100 najbardziej stresogennych zawodów w Polsce lekarz znajduje się na dziewiątej pozycji. W pracy lekarza występują zagrożenia związane z czynnikami niebezpiecznymi (urazowe, wypadkowe), szkodliwymi (fizyczne, chemiczne, biologiczne i psychofizyczne) i uciążliwymi. Przeprowadzono badania ankietowe wśród 100-osobowej grupy lekarzy specjalizacji zabiegowych i nie zabiegowych. Najpoważniejsze zagrożenia w pracy lekarza to odpowiednio: psychofizyczne (73%) i biologiczne (68%) w porównaniu z fizycznymi chemicznymi i wypadkowymi (odpowiednio 22%, 21% i 15%). Spośród psychofizycznych za najgroźniejsze zagrożenie uznano stres. Przyjmując kryteria wartościujące poziom stresu (0-3 punkty stres mały, 4-11 - stres średni, 12-20 - stres duży), duży poziom stresu zawodowego (powyżej 11 punktów) towarzyszy w pracy najmłodszym lekarzom (do 1 roku pracy w zawodzie) oraz lekarzom o stażu pracy powyżej 25 lat.
A medical doctor is situated at the ninth position among one hundred most stressful professions in Poland. In this profession serious threats connected with various dangerous (traumatic, accidental); harmful (physical, chemical, biological and psychophysical) and burdensome factors occur. A survey among 100 participant medical doctors, who represent surgical and no surgical specializations, has been carried out. The most serious threats in doctor's profession are respectively: psychophysical (73%) and biological (68%) compared to physical, chemical and accidental ( 22%, 21%, 1%, respectively). Stress was assumed to be the worst threat, when considering the psychophysical threats. Assuming evaluative criteria of the intensity of stress (0-3 points-small; 4-11- medium; 12-20 high stress), the high level of occupational stress (above 11 points) accompanies young doctors (within the first year of their practice) and doctors which had been working more than 25 years. The amount of occupational stress is also dependent on the medical specialization. Among the 10 most stressful specialization 9 of them are interventional and one anesthesiology with intensive treatment. This opinion did not vary from the similar one, which has been carried out among a people who were not medical doctors. Conclusion: 1. Occupational stress is a serious threat in a profession of a medical doctor, 2. High stress can be observed among the doctors of surgical specializations and among the group of doctors that begin their practice.

The paper provides a corpus-based semantic analysis of patients’ opinions on doctors published on the ZnanyLekarz.pl web portal. The analysis is aimed at depicting the medical professionals’ traits and behaviours that patients interpret as expressions of empathy. The fi ndings suggest that while patients value the doctor’s empathy, they perceive it as a relatively rare quality in doctors. The sphere where empathy manifests itself to the greatest extent is undoubtedly doctor–patient communication: unhurried interview, active listening, explaining the course of the necessary medical procedures, responding to the patient’s questions, showing emotional support. Although the fi ndings coincide with the recommendations found in the communication guides addressed to doctors, taking into account the perspective of the patient is necessary, since patients’ perception of empathy may not correlate perfectly with doctors’ self-assessment.

In the nineteenth century, the state of medical knowledge, also in Prussia changed tremendously. There was a great advancement of gynecology, which became a university subject. Moreover, a number of state obstetrics schools came into being, replacing the midwife-amateur. Some attempts of more human treatment of patients with mental illnesses were made; however, knowledge in this field was rather remote. The 18th and 19th c. gripe were epidemics such as smallpox, measles, fever, typhoid, cholera, tuberculosis, dysentery, which still collected massive harvest at that time. Syphilis was a significant problem, especially in the army. The improvement in the treatment of smallpox occurred only after the introduction of compulsory vaccination. The emergence of antiseptics and anesthesia was the great innovation of the nineteenth century. This allows the vast decreased in maternal mortality. Until the end of the century the mortality rate was very high, and human life short. The number of physicians increased, but there were still few and still they were an urban phenomenon. In 1849 in Prussia, 80% of 5595 doctors lived in cities, much more in eastern than western provinces. In the rural areas, due to the absence of doctors, healers, religious and folk medicine were of great significance. For the first time idea of the modern hospital appeared in the eighteen century, in the nineteenth century it became a mass phenomenon. Since the eighteenth century there was a much vaster structure of state administration with the Ministry of Health at the helm, including a city and county doctors. Gradually significant improvement in the quality of food at lower layers decreased the incidence and improved quality of life. Fertilization increased yields, the growth of potatoes became prevalence, sugar beet, grown up cattle and increased intake of meat. The meat started to be froze. Along with it and the popularization of the rail, the area's affected by hunger were more easily resured by fast shipment and export over long distances.

The article presents the organization of religious ministration for patients in the 9th Regional Hospital in Brest. The Second Polish Republic was a country in which people of different religions lived: Catholic, Orthodox, Protestant, Jewish and so on. That was the reason why priests of all religions visited the 9th Regional Hospital. It was a good example of religious tolerance also for modern hospitals. The article is based on documents from the Central Military Archives and other works. The author also used articles from the magazine “Lekarz Wojskowy” (“The Army Doctor”).
