The paper deals with the poetological propositions of one of the major Scandinavian Modernist poets Gunnar Ekelöf. My argument is that Ekelöf was one of those Modernist writers who saw literature from the perspective of a Weltkultur. I’m framing my reading of his intertextual collages, especially A Mölna-elegy in that context. The question of literary predecessors, tradition, dialogue and cultural ancestry becomes extremely important in Ekelöfs poetological propositions. His “ultramodernist” techiques as the use of a wide range of intertextual strategies or cultural recycling, are expressions of a cultural nostalgia rather than a proclamation of an aesthetic revolution. The perspective of a global culture that transgresses the borders of time and space directs the Swedish poet to the conception of poetry as a kind of culture science.

The article presents a critical approach to the sound studies debate, concerning its metatheoretical aspects. The point of departure is a paper by Brian Kane that opens the first issue of “Sound Studies: An Interdisciplinary Journal”. Kane criticizes the ontoaesthetic perspective within the discipline. My aim is to introduce sound studies both as an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary field of humanities, dominated by two — instead of one referred by Kane — research strategies: audio-antropological and onto-aesthetical. By focusing on the latter, where the works by Christoph Cox and Salomé Voegelin are situated, I want to propose a different, affective-materialistic approach to sound studies, based not on the opposition between signification and sound/vibration, but on the relationship between the Deleuzoguattarian machinic concepts and the musical avant-garde. Referring to excerpts from articles and manifestos by Luigi Russolo, Edgar Varèse, Pierre Schaeffer and Pauline Oliveros, I show that the machinic sound imagination once accompanied the historical avantgarde and neo-avant-garde movements. It is the key to break with the anti-post-structural approach in sound studies in favor of a more relational perspective. This perspective, within the onesthetic paradigm, would allow for the interpretation of sound machinery as elements of the machine system (aesthetic, social, cultural) in which sound operates.

The starting point for this discussion was the process of electronic transformations of periodicals for children and young adults, which have gradually become multifunctional web portals for many different types of users (except children and young adults, also parents, teachers, and educators). As digital resources operating on the principle of convergence, such portals have become texts of culture that are present in the cyberspace and consequently are very popular with young recipients, who are the most active group of Internet users. The study of the new quality of “reading online”, which is hypertextual reading (including children’s reading), seems to be still closely connected to literature, literary studies, and narratology. Electronic links, one of the defining features of hypertext, are also practical manifestations of the concept of intertextuality. This article considers several separate issues, such as hypertextual reading as a way of communication; as reminiscences, retrospections and returns; as a game; and as community building

Translation has become one of the most important aspects of contemporary culture in the globalised world: it is a condition for intercultural communication as well as a means of preservation of culturally specific elements. No longer can we ignore the impact is has on cultural praxis and the functioning of many disciplines of the humanities. As a methodological framework Translation Studies offers a set of analytic and interpretive tools for research into various “translation zones”, for a long time seen as marginal, but in fact the most active spaces in cultures. It is there that the mediation processes and cultural transfer happens. The paper looks at the ways in which Translation Studies defines its aims and methods and sketches possible uses they may be put into in the humanities. The Translational Turn in Culture Studies poses challenges both to TS and other disciplines of the humanities, at the same time offering promising, new research perspectives.

By analyzing the strategies of the artistic and scientific collectiveSlavs and Tatars, she shows how knowledge and history are produced in a performative way, how dependencies and relationships between disciplines of knowledge and cultural texts are created.

In the spring of 2017 we conducted a survey among researchers in the broadly understood creative sectors, and among managers, often combining experience in this field with academic practice. We asked, among other things, about the cultural management, the specificity of this research area, and the most important environments dealing with this subject. Twenty people responded to our request. The results of this – in fact, self-reflective – research is presented below. Subjective attitude of the respondents to the problems, diversity of positions, and in many points also their convergence form the foundation on which to build research exploration in this area and find, still numerous, white spots.

This article presents an educational internet forum, which was a part of the blended learning project the author led throughout the academic year 2011/2012 parallel to the course Introduction to the Cultural Studies at the University of Gdansk. As a result of the project the site http://wiedzaokulturze.wikispaces.com was created by a group of sixty-five Cultural Studies students. Students’ task was to take part in two discussions each semester by sharing their opinion on the topic the teacher proposed. In total they left 260 comments on 20 discussion forums. Each discussion forum was closed two days before the next class, so it prepared for the subsequent discussion. The aim of this article is to demonstrate whether participation in online discussion develops the competence necessary to lead a face to face discussion, the key ability that should be improved by humanistic education. Year-round care of the project helped to make many observations that can be used as a guide for teachers who plan to moderate the educational forum. This paper presents examples of discussion topics, analyzes students’ comments and proposes methods for moderating internet discussion. The experience gained during the project leads to the conclusion that, although the Internet educational forum solves some of the problems of traditional discussion, it generates another ones. The most serious of them result from the separation of time and space and lack of natural interaction. As explained by research results and statistics collected after closing the project, the online discussion is more cool, intellectual and less spontaneous. Because of this fact the educational forum threads should be planned as a preparation for written assignment.

Vegetarianism is – simply speaking – not eating meat. Veganism is a bit more radical option – it is not just not eating meat, but generally animal products: eggs, milk, dairy products, honey. These are relatively simple definitions for these types of diets. However, the problem begins when we define vegetarianism or veganism as a type of diet. Vegetarianism and veganism are therefore not only related to food, we can already speak of a certain lifestyle understood primarily as “the size and form of consumption.” In my article I want to follow the motives behind choosing this type of diet and to reflect not only on the health but also on the cultural aspects of veganism. There are more and more vegetarian and vegan products, new restaurants and fast food restaurants, if not completely vegetarian or vegan, at least including meatless or simply vegetable dishes in their menu. Multitudes of forums and online communities, YouTube channels and blogs with vegetable recipes are multiplying. All this lets us wonder whether the vegetarian/vegan diet has become something of a fashion that will soon pass or whether there are other reasons, and if so, what these reasons are.
Wegetarianizm to – najkrócej rzecz ujmując – niejedzenie mięsa. Weganizm jest nieco bardziej radykalną opcją – to nie tylko niespożywanie mięsa, ale generalnie produktów zwierzęcych: jajek, mleka, nabiału, miodu. Są to stosunkowo proste definicje dla tych rodzajów diet. Problem zaczyna się jednak już wtedy, kiedy określimy wegetarianizm czy weganizm rodzajem diety. Wegetarianizm i weganizm nie jest więc jedynie związany z jedzeniem, można mówić tu już o pewnym stylu życia rozumianym przede wszystkim jako „rozmiary i forma konsumpcji”. W swoim wystąpieniu chcę prześledzić pobudki, jakie stoją za wyborem tego rodzaju diety – zdrowie stanowi jedną z nich – a także poddać refleksji nie tylko zdrowotne, ale także kulturowe aspekty weg*anizmu. Na rynku obecnych jest coraz więcej produktów wegetariańskich i wegańskich, z dużą częstotliwością powstają też nowe restauracje, a nawet lodziarnie czy fast foody, o ile nie całkowicie wege lub wega, o tyle włączające do swojego menu potrawy bezmięsne czy po prostu warzywne. Mnożą się wege fora i społeczności internetowe, kanały na YouTube oraz blogi z przepisami kuchni roślinnej. Wszystko to pozwala zastanawiać się, czy dieta wege/wega stała się czymś w rodzaju mody, która w niedługim czasie przeminie czy też przemawiają za tym także inne względy, a jeśli tak, to jakie.

Celem artykułu jest wskazanie możliwości interdyscyplinarnej współpracy, łączącej specyfikę badań nad kulturą oraz związanych z informacją i komunikacją. Artykuł stanowi także głos w dyskusji związanej ze zmianami klasyfikacji dziedzin nauki i dyscyplin naukowych oraz dyscyplin artystycznych. Zidentyfikowane zostały i omówione wybrane przykłady problemów badawczych funkcjonujących na styku nauk o kulturze oraz bibliologii i informatologii. Należą do nich np. kulturotwórcza funkcja informacji i komunikacji; zmiany artefaktów kultury (książek i dokumentów) w elektronicznym środowisku sieciowym, dzieło i jego relacje z odbiorcami, zarządzanie informacjami o dziełach w procesie komunikacji. Sformułowanych zostało kilka pytań i propozycji badawczych. Artykuł wskazuje na zasadność i korzyści z pogłębienia interdyscyplinarnych badań między naukami o kulturze a bibliologią i informatologią.
The aim of the article is to indicate the possibilities of interdisciplinary cooperation, combining the specifics of research on culture and related to information and communication. The article is also a voice in the discussion related to changes in the classification of fields of science and scientific and artistic disciplines. Selected examples of research problems functioning between culture studies, bibliology and information science have been identified and discussed. These include, for example, the culture-forming function of information and communication; changes in cultural artefacts (books and documents) in a digital network environment; the work and its relationships with recipients, and management of information about works in the communication process. Several research questions and proposals have been formulated. The article indicates the legitimacy and benefits of interdisciplinary research between culture studies and bibliology and information science.

Gay and Lesbian Studies: Reactivation My article encourages rethinking of LGBT studies legacy, a discipline which does not exist in the Polish university, yet it received a doubtful reputation. The popular narrative opposes contemporary lesbian and gay studies to queer theory – LGBT studies is claimed to be transhistorical, essentialist and anachronical. In my paper I argue that that approach is mistaken and I provide for positive arguments in favour of a critical return to the lesbian and gay scholarship. These four arguments are as following: interrelations with cultural studies; interest in sexuality and operations of the market; understanding and celebration of popular culture; creative tensions between LGBT studies and queer theory.

In the article, the author tries to bring closer the popular culture problems present in linguistic works. Discussed research proves that the popularity of this issue gradually increases. The linguists apply different and various theories and methodologies in their research. They are interested both in Polish and foreign phenomena of popular culture. The authors of the linguistic research on popular culture place their analysis on a broad background of contemporary culture and society. One can hope that subsequent research provides us with more know ledge and better understanding of the present day.
Przeprowadzona w artykule próba przybliżenia sposobów uobecniania kultury popularnej w refleksji lingwistów pozwala na sformułowanie wniosków o rosnącej popularności tej tematyki, a także różnorodności sposobów jej ujmowania. Badaczki i badacze sięgają po rozmaite propozycje teoretyczne oraz instrumentaria metodologiczne. Interesuje ich zarówno kultura rodzima, jak i obca. Starają się umieszczać badane fenomeny na tle tendencji wyznaczających mapę współczesności. Dzięki podobnym próbom można coraz więcej dowiadywać się o specyfice naszych czasów i być może lepiej je rozumieć.

Do niedawna jeszcze w centrum zainteresowania nauki i filozofii pozostawał język. W świecie początków XXI wieku, zwanym informacjonalizmem, następuje zwrot ku obrazom. Społeczeństwo informacyjne produkuje ogromne ilości zdjęć, filmów, animacji i cyfrowych tekstów. Te nowe zbiory danych określa się jako big data. Do ich badania niezbędne są nowe metody. Stare, przystosowane do interpretacji tekstów, okazują się bowiem zawodne. W związku z tym zrodziła się humanistyka cyfrowa, która proponuje nowe narzędzia do obróbki i interpretacji big data. Podstawową metodą staje się wizualizacja. Wizualizacja występuję w kilku odmianach. Najczęściej tworzy się infografiki, animacje trójwymiarowe oraz cyfrowe filmy. Wyniki badań również zaczyna się przedstawiać za pomocą obrazów. Od początku istnienia praktyki naukowej podstawowym środkiem komunikacji rezultatów działań poznawczych było pismo. Pod wpływem nowych technologii ICT badacze coraz częściej komunikują swoje badania w postaci wizualnej – począwszy od prezentacji, poprzez strony internetowe, a skończywszy na specjalnych aplikacjach umożliwiających kreację multimedialnych materiałów. Wszystkie one noszą miano cyfrowych opowieści, czyli digital storytelling.
The language was until recently the focus of science and philosophy. In the world of the early twenty-first century, informationalism, called for the return of the pictures. The information society produces huge quantities of images, videos, animations and digital texts. These new data sets referred to as big data. Their study new methods are needed. Old, adapted to the interpretation of texts, in fact turn out to be unreliable. Thus was born the digital humanities, which offers new tools for processing and interpretation of big data. The basic method is visualization. Visualization comes in several varieties. Most forms of infographics, three-dimensional animation and digital video. Results of the study also begins to present through images. Since the beginning of scientific practice, the primary means of communicating the results of the cognition was writing. Under the influence of new technologies ICT researchers are increasingly communicating their research in visual form—from presentations, web pages, and up to special applications, enabling the creation of multimedia materials. All of them are called digital stories, namely digital storytelling.
