    Współczesne znaczenie kariery zawodowej dla człowieka ulega permanentnej zmianie, świadczą o tym zarówno kolejne próby zdefiniowania niniejszego zjawiska podejmowane na polu naukowym, jak i indywidualne sensy przypisywane mu przez podmiot. Uwarunkowań takiego stanu rzeczy należy dopatrywać się w przemianach współczesnej rzeczywistości, a konsekwencji także rynku pracy. Dynamizm i niestabilność jego struktury, oddziałuje na przebieg oraz jakość ścieżek rozwoju zawodowego jednostek, których odzwierciedleniem stają się nowopowstające modele karier. Cel niniejszego artykułu koncentruje się na dokonaniu przeglądu wybranych typów, wzorów oraz modeli kariery zawodowej oraz scharakteryzowaniu ich przeobrażeń w kontekście ponowoczesnego świata pracy.
    The contemporary meaning of a professional career for a human being is undergoing permanent change, as evidenced by successive attempts to define this phenomenon in the scientific field, as well as individual senses assigned to it by the subject. Determinations of such a state of affairs should be seen in the changes of contemporary reality, and consequently also in the labor market. Dynamism and instability of its structure affects the course and quality of career development paths of individuals, which are reflected in the emerging models of careers. The aim of this article is to review selected types, patterns and career models and characterize their transformations in the context of the post-modern world of labor.

    The article analyses the promotions of Lithuanian treasury officials under King Sigismund III. It presents models of careers at different levels of the clerical hierarchy and poses the question of the dependence degree of the treasury staff on particular ministers.

    Artykuł prezentuje przemiany polskiego poradnictwa zawodowego dla młodzieży od okresu międzywojennego do czasów współczesnych. Autorka zaprezentowała w nim modele i koncepcje poradnictwa zawodowego zmieniające się wraz z przemianami społecznymi, gospodarczymi i politycznymi w Polsce. Szczególną uwagę zwróciła na te elementy, które stanowiąc rdzeń wcześniejszych teoretycznych koncepcji i praktycznych podejść, przetrwały do czasów obecnych i stanowią dziś ważną podbudowę nowych modeli poradnictwa zawodowego. W artykule ukazano także sprawy problematyczne, które na różnych etapach rozwoju i funkcjonowania poradnictwa zawodowego uniemożliwiały jego pełne wykorzystanie w procesie wspierania rozwoju zawodowego młodego człowieka i podejmowanych przez niego decyzji edukacyjno-zawodowych. Wiele tych samych problemów daje się także zauważyć dzisiaj. Wyłaniają się również trudności nowe, które wpływają negatywnie na efektywność przygotowania młodzieży do wyboru zawodu i satysfakcjonującego funkcjonowania na współczesnym, trudnym i wymagającym rynku pracy.
    This article presents the transformations of Polish career guidance from the interwar period up to the present. The author presents models and concepts of career guidance changing alongside social, economic and political transitions in Poland. Special emphasis has been put on the elements, which were the core of previous theoretical concepts and practical approaches, and have survived to the present times and constitute an important foundation for new models of career guidance. Furthermore, the article presents problematic issues, which stifled the usability of career guidance in supporting young people’s professional development as well as their educational and professional decision-making at various stages of development and functioning. As noted, many of these problems are also common today. As obvious, there are new difficulties emerging that, like before, negatively affect the efficiency of preparing students and adults alike to a career choice (occupational retraining) and satisfactory functioning in today’s difficult and demanding labour market.

    Opis:
    Due to constantly transforming socio-economic reality as well as the difficulty of entering and surviving the labour market, which are the factors related to nonlinear character of contemporary carriers, the increasing number of people feel apprehensive about their chances to construct their present and future lives. Therefore, it is little wonder that in recent years the growth in demand for helping activities has been clearly discernible in most countries in the world. Supporting people’s efforts to construct their carriers at different stages of their lives is becoming one of the key tasks of present vocational guidance, which is more and more often (also in Poland) referred to as career counselling. This assignment makes the specialists dealing with helping people to construct their careers increasingly engaged in constant developing and adjusting the forms and ways of their assistance activities for continuously diversifying needs of their clients. On the other hand, it still remains important to answer the question of what the very notion of ‘career’ means to counselling investigators, practitioners and advice-seekers. In this article the author tries to give answers to the following questions: How is the term ‘career’ currently defined? What counselling measures are offered by counselling specialists? To answer the above questions the author shows the transformation of contemporary careers and outlines chosen theories of career counselling, especially the concepts of kaleidoscope career by Lisa A. Maniero and Sherry E. Sullivan, boundaryless career by Michael B. Arthur and Denise M. Rousseau, protean career by D.T. Hall and the model of intelligent career by Michael B. Arthur, Priscilla H. Calman and Roberta DeFillippi.
