Opis:
The artistic mask, understood as a “factitious”, creatively developed identity of a person, escapes the long-accepted, and already well-established in the private law, classifications of legal interests. This makes it difficult to answer the fundamental question of whether, and if yes, then subject to what conditions, the artistic mask is protected, and also to establish the legal framework for contractual disposal thereof. This problem becomes particularly important these days, as discussions across a variety of platforms are being held on the development of one’s own personality, self-creation, how we present ourselves to others, and how far we can control how others present us. Moreover, the structure of the mask draws our attention to the area where the material, or tangible, and the immaterial, intangible, interpenetrate each other, the area that is characterized by the conflict of interest, whether or not it pertains to property-related, or economic, interest. The academic research undertaken so far allows to conclude that there are many faces of the artistic mask. Therefore, a question arises whether it is possible at all to assign it to one of the categories of protected interest that is already recognized by the law, namely an image, a work or artistic performance, or it is a new type of legal interest. In our opinion, the problem of the artistic mask is not an anachronistic one, or an artefact from the times of a pursuit to find the grounds for protection of the artists-performers. The analysis of those who practice as performers allows us to observe that the structure of the mask combines two elements, i.e. the identity and the medium. It is a characteristic feature of the mask that everything that makes up the identity, namely the character, the appearance of an impersonated character, is not real, as it would be in the case of an image of a human being, but is artificially created. Unlike is usually the case with a copyrighted work, it is not a physical object that is the carrier, or the medium, for the mask, but a human being. It can be stated that in the case of the mask, the human being is the original copy of the “work”. However, the concept of holding copyright to one’s own person is excluded as such.

Opis:
This article discusses the rituality of rock music and stage images adopted by rock artists as an element of the anthropology of popular culture. Rituality in this music genre emerges at the interface between a performer and the audience, and is manifested through image strategies adopted by artists as an essential aspect of their offer in the music market. This issue proved to be particularly evident in the last decades of the 20th century, when rock became a dominant genre in popular music: the marketing offer aimed at young people was frequently accompanied by social and aesthetic values, allowing audiences to perceive this music as a manifestation of ideas typical of the young generation, placed in opposition to older generations. Rock ethos is often a culture of rebellion where an individual – in this case a rock idol – rises above mediocrity. The mythology of popular music has created several artistic images of which the roles of ‘a rebel’, ‘a sensitive artist’, and ‘an attitude advocate/ideologue’ are the most significant for rock musicians’ activities and their ritualisation. The rituals accompanying rock music perform numerous functions such as the expression of artistic values, the aesthetic function, communication, group integration, identification, and finally, the satisfaction of the need to be part of a group.

Opis:
Artykuł dotyczy sposobów przejawiania się w tekście artystycznym utrwalonych w języku i kulturze intersubiektywnych wyobrażeń o przyrodzie. Bazę materiałową stanowi piosenka Wojciecha Młynarskiego pt. Lubię wrony oraz dwa inne utwory poetyckie wchodzące z nią w relacje o charakterze intertekstualnym: List do KIG z Łodzi W. Młynarskiego i Wierszyk o wronach K.I.
The paper concerns various manifestations of intersubjective images of nature, established in language and culture, in an artistic text: Wojciech Młynarski’s song Lubię wrony, and two other poetic works which have intertextual relationships with it: List do KIG z Łodzi by the same author, and Wierszyk o wronach by K.I. Gałczyński. Methodologically, the paper is based on the theory of cultural scripts combined with cognitive concepts of imaging and conceptual blending. The analysis presented reveals the way in which Młynarski reinterprets shared cultural knowledge in order to express his own patriotism in a form which differs from conventionalized ways of expressing such an attitude.

Opis:
Marek Hendrykowski presents in his study the earliest fiction and documentary films made by Andrzej Brzozowski (1932-2005), excellent Polish filmmaker, 1971-2005 professor of the famous Film School in Łódź (PWSFTviT). “Sunflowers” (1953), “Escape” (1954/55), “Legend” (1957), “Jazz Talks” (1957) – these short films, preserved in the collection of Film School Archive, are almost unknown for wider audience in Poland and abroad. In the second part of his study Hendrykowski gives also an accessible overview of the historical evolution of the filmmaker through the close examination of another two outstanding short films made by him: By the Railway Track (1963) and Medallions (1966). Last two were adaptations of short stories written in 1945 by Zofia Nałkowska, a masterpiece of antinazi world lterature. The article deals with the most important values and close-reading thematic and stylistic areas of Brzozowski’s early works: those developing in the 1950’s and early 1960’s but having deep impact in the poetics of academic short film in Poland, whose form and course they have fundamentally redirected.
