The subject of the article is the new regulation of degradation adopted in the amendment to the Criminal Code by the Act of July 7, 2021, according to which degradation obtained the status of a universal penal measure and can be applied not only to soldiers, but also to reserve and retired soldiers. The change of its legal nature allows, without violating the coherence of the Penal Code, to extend the subjective scope to people with ranks of other state services, e.g. Police, Agency of Internal Security, Prison Service, which is likewise supported by the arguments justifying its application to military personnel. The implementation of this postulate would also strengthen the legitimacy of regulating degradation in the general part of the Penal Code. The aim of the article is to explain the objective and subjective scope as well as the requirements for the application of degradation, in view of the significant modification of its regulations and the new foundations for the functioning of the army contained in the Act of March 11, 2022, on the Defense of the Fatherland. It is a dogmatic study, based on formal-dogmatic, linguistic, logical and historical interpretations.

Problematyka aspiracji zawodowych pracowników w kontekście sprawnego wykonywania zadań jest istotna, aspiracje są bowiem jednym z czynników motywujących ludzi do działania. Prawidłowo ukształtowane, kierunkują proces uczenia się człowieka, przyczyniając się do rozwoju jego kompetencji, a w konsekwencji także sprzyjają zwiększeniu sprawności prowadzonych działań. W artykule skoncentrowano się na aspiracjach zawodowych kobiet żołnierzy. Za cel główny badań przyjęto określenie rodzaju i poziomu aspiracji kobiet żołnierzy oraz wyjaśnienie istoty oddziaływania aspiracji zawodowych na sprawne wykonywanie zadań w wojsku. W odniesieniu do badanej grupy zidentyfikowano m.in.: motywy wyboru przez kobiety zawodu żołnierza, ich ukierunkowania zawodowe i preferowaną ścieżkę kariery, cechy warunkujące sukcesy oraz porażki w pracy zawodowej, poziom zadowolenia z zajmowanego stanowiska, a także czynniki i bariery sprawnej realizacji działań w organizacji.
The issue of professional aspirations of employees in the context of efficient task performance is crucial, since they are one of the factors motivating individuals to take actions. When properly formed, they guide the process of learning, facilitating development of competences and, as a consequence, they enhance efficiency of the conducted activities. The article focuses on professional aspirations of women soldiers. The main focus of the study was to determine the type and level of aspirations held by professional women soldiers and to explain the nature of influence that professional aspirations exert on efficient performance of tasks in the army. With reference to the studied group, the following, among others, have been determined: the driving forces behind choosing the soldier profession, professional focus and preferred path of career, features conditioning occupational successes and failures, level of satisfaction derived from the held position, as well as factors and barriers regarding efficient performance of tasks in an organization.

Niniejszy artykuł ma na celu ukazanie, że kapitał kulturowy żołnierzy jest znacznikiem właściwego dla danego korpusu wojskowego gustu, a także stanowi podstawę klasowego podziału, a oficerom zapewnia wyróżnienie społeczne - dystynkcję. Aby osiągnąć założony cel, wykorzystano metodę przeglądu literatury. Artykuł składa się z dwóch części, z których pierwsza opisuje przejawy rytuałów w wojskowej rzeczywistości, natomiast część druga poświęcona jest ceremoniałowi wojskowemu jako sposobowi nadawania żołnierzom habitusu.
Pierre Bourdieu's theory of social and cultural production reveals mechanisms and structures: social classes and symbolic fields, and habitus. According to this author's assumptions, the army is a symbolic field. Within this autonomous social space governed by specific rules, there is social symbolic competition for various forms of cultural capital: embodied capital (interests, skills, knowledge, body posture, gestures, language, appearance, appearance, hygiene, diet, sport), objectified (furnishings, interior design and clothing) and institutionalized (completed stages of education confirmed in the form of diplomas) . It is cultural capital that is the marker of taste appropriate for a given social group, it is the basis of class division, and it provides officers with a social distinction - distinction.

The main task of the army is to ensure the sovereignty and security of its citizens. Military service is regarded as the service of in name supreme good, as service of homeland. The paper deals with the Israeli performance artist, Yuda Braun, and his latest project, “The White Soldier”. The performance is analysed and interpreted from the perspective of performance studies theory, as well asits social and political context and their implications. What can one learn about Israeli society reading this performance? What is the role of the artist and his art in intense political realms? Does art speak louder than the words of politicians? These and more questions will be answered on the basis of the analysis of the performance itself, its media coverage, the videos uploaded at youtube.com and the author’s interviews with Yuda Braun.

Artykuł podejmuje zagadnienie znaczenia morale żołnierzy w naszej armii. Autorka przedstawia w nim różne definicje pojęcia morale, którego nie da się jednoznacznie określić. Morale to umysłowy, emocjonalny i duchowy stan indywidualny, ale również wartość, która pozwala żołnierzom działać w najtrudniejszych warunkach i wykazywać odwagę w sytuacjach zmęczenia i niebezpieczeństwa. O dobrym morale świadczy wysoki poziom następujących czynników: pewności siebie, odwagi, dyscypliny, koleżeństwa, odpowiedzialności, wiary w słuszność realizacji postawionych celów. Niskie morale charakteryzują się natomiast biernością, agresją, obojętnością, brakiem współodpowiedzialności za wykonanie zadania. Istota morale tkwi w identyfikacji z własnym państwem, celach wojny, kulturze środowiska wojskowego, cechach osobowości żołnierzy i warunkach materialnych. Wysokie morale stymulują, dynamizują i aktywizują żołnierzy do osiągnięcia celów i realizacji zadań. Należy zwrócić szczególną uwagę na fakt, iż morale zawsze było, jest i będzie niematerialnym czynnikiem przewagi nad przeciwnikiem na polu walki.
The article comes out with the question about the soldiers’ morale in the Polish Army. The author shows different ways to express the concept of the morale which is not possible to explain unambiguously. The morale is a mental, emotional, spiritual, individual condition. It is also a value which supports soldiers, especially during the hardest situations, making them brave enough to hand with exhaust and danger. A good morale consists of: self-confidence, courage, discipline, friendship, responsibility. It is, as well, the faith that the achieving goal is right. Passivity, aggression, immunity, the lack of responsibility for tasks which were supposed to be done- all of those characterizes the low morale. The idea of morale we can find in the identification with own country, aims of a war, character of army’s air, personal attitudes of soldiers and the financial conditions. The high morale stimulates, dynamises, activates soldiers to reach the goals and to execute tasks. It is worth remembering that the morale always was, is and will be an insubstantial factor of dominance over the enemy on the battlefield.

Security, especially military security, is a state that gives a sense of certainty and a guarantee of its preservation and is ensured especially by the armed forces – soldiers. There are professions that are associated with above-average levels of both health and psychological costs. Without any doubt, this group includes the profession of soldier. Soldiers are exposed to enormous stress while on duty, and maintaining an appropriate mental condition has a direct impact on the effectiveness of the activities they undertake, including combat activities, which affect our level of safety. The ability to cope with stress in the event of a threat is important, not only for the health of participants, but above all, it has a significant impact on the level of collective safety. Military service involves constant improvement of one’s skills. It was noticed that an effective commander is a specialist in both military operations and combat stress. A commander whose actions affect not only the safety of the soldier, but also the safety of a given society. All the more so because the leader is largely responsible for alleviating operational stress in his soldiers; therefore, he cannot remain indifferent to the causes and consequences of combat stress. The authors of this article aimed to analyze the level of sense of coherence and styles of coping with stress among soldiers.

Badania zespołu Samuela Stouffera nad armią amerykańską w czasie II wojny światowej i książka "The American Soldier" (1949–1950) odegrały ważną rolę w rozwoju i instytucjonalizacji empirycznych badań społecznych w Stanach Zjednoczonych i w innych krajach. W artykule opisano recepcję i wpływ tej książki na socjologię daleko od USA – w Polsce. Oprócz opisu historycznego artykuł zawiera także materiał do uogólniającej analizy dyfuzji idei socjologicznych.
The study conducted by Samuel Stouffer and his team in the US Army during the World War II is generally considered to be a founding research of empirical sociology. The book "The American Soldier" (1949–1950) played a major role in the process of development and institutionalization of empirical social research. Joseph Ryan’s monograph Samuel Stouffer and the GI Survey (2013) analyzes the history and reception of this research and the book in the United States. This paper goes one small step further. It investigates the reception and impact of this book far away from the US: in Poland. Apart from its purely descriptive value, this paper provides an analysis of the diffusion of sociological innovation.
