The author analyzes the policy of Poland towards autonomous Slovakia in the period of six months from the Munich Conference to forming in Spring 1939 formally independent, separate Slovak state. The government in Warsaw made a serious mistake by demanding in Autumn 1938 to join some small pieces of Slovakias territory to Poland. The realization of those demands led to rapid weakening of strong at that time Polish influences in Slovakia and accelerated the process of strengthening German influences. As a result, not only had Slovakia allowed the Germans in September 1939 to use its territory to attack Poland, but also itself took part in fights alongside the Wehrmacht.

The article concerns an analysis of the political situation in the Slovak Republic between the years 1992–1994 and the formation of the legal and state system. In the analysed period, the process of decomposition of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic took place or, to be more precise, the finalisation of this process. The study is based on the assumption that in the analysed period there were many divisions observed on the political scene, which was the result of the lack of a stable political structure.

The article shows Romany life in Lunik 9 ghetto in Koszyce, Slovakia. The aim of this text is to underline the existence of such place in the modern, civilised world and formulate the reasons of it. Despite the European Union policy, improvement of Romanies living conditions and their functioning in Slovakian society is still dissatisfactory. From one hand the article makes a point of lack of humanity in still changing Slovakian government, but from the other hand it also shows the complexed nature of Romanies and appreciates strenuous work of people who really want to change this situation. Highlighting complicated issues of the case should also make readers give some thought to harmful stereotypes the Romanies often struggle with.

The purpose of the study is to present the model of proceedings, in force since 2016 in Slovakia, regarding the administrative court procedure in administrative penalty cases, which can be taken over in whole or in part, or be one of the elements of a broader discourse on potential changes in Law on Proceedings before Administrative Courts, taking into account the specificity and essence of the Polish administrative judiciary. The study contains de lege ferenda postulates regarding changes in the judicial-administrative control of penalties in Poland. In the author’s opinion, the normalization of the judicial-administrative procedure for the control of administrative fines could be the first step towards the unification of the judicial procedure in this area and the resignation from its current multiplicity, by granting exclusive jurisdiction in these cases to administrative courts.

Opis:
Although after the political change in 1989 it is possible to scientifically study the phenomenon of religiosity also in post-communist countries, it should be humbly recognized that the authentic sociology of religion in Slovakia is still in statu nascendi. This is evidenced, for example, by the fact that in the most famous Slovak sociological journal called “Sociology” only one issue has been devoted to the topic of religiosity during last 30 years (“Sociology”, 2001). We can claim, that researching of religiosity in Slovakia is almost like discovering a “virgin land”. At the same time it should be acknowledged that the development of research of religiosity in the Slovak reality was most positively influenced by the Polish school of sociology. The purpose of this study is to describe the outlined impact and emphasize its importance for researching of Slovakian religiosity.

The People’s Party Our Slovakia (Ľudová strana Naše Slovensko) is one of the most popular parties in Slovakia. It belongs to the movements of the extreme right. Its leader – Marian Kotleba is one of the best known Slovak politicians. One of the reasons for the popularity of Kotleba and his party seems to be the use of populist slogans by the movement. The article describes the activities and slogans of the People’s Party Our Slovakia, in which the combination of the slogans of the extreme right and populist ones is most visible.

Cultural identity is a very important part of national identity, as it defines the individual’s place in society. The aim is to show the Rusyn national identity consolidated in the contemporary literary works and to define the symbolism used by the Rusyn authors to emphasise their belonging to that nation. The six basic areas into which post-1989 Rusyn literature in Slovakia is divided are the following: poetry dedicated to the emerging national identity; poetry and prose based on folklore; rural-themed prose; metaphorical poetry dealing with diverse themes; literature for children and young people; literary translations. Authors belonging to the individual groups prove with their works that aspects of national identity, self-identification and, in fact, national revival continue to re-sound strongly in contemporary Rusyn literature in Slovakia.

The subject matter is analyzation of the phenomenon of mutual influences between the Czech, Slovak and Polish puppet theatre. This theme is inspired by the significant presence of Czech and Slovak artists on Polish puppet stage. Czech and Slovak puppet theatre have a long and rich tradition. Contrary, Polish puppet theatre has been created freely after the Second World War, without the burden of tradition what became inspiring for Czech and Slovak neighbours. The questions are: is this phenomena conditioned by opening of the borders between the countries, common cultural references to Europe, declining condition of Polish theatre, or is it a result of a constant cultural fluctuation?

Pacho, the Brigand of Hybe (dir. Martin Ťapák, 1975) was announced in the press as the first truly Slovak comedy. In fact, it is a parody of the theme of brigands. Brigands’s topic was present in the Slovak cinema from its origins. From the first story Jánošík (1921) to the superproduction under the same title made by Paľo Bielik (1962–1963), the problem has always expressed the idea of freedom of the ever subdued, tormented Slovak people. Pacho, as a parody refers not only – or not so much – to the legend of brigands, as to the superproduction directed by Bielik, the giant of Slovak film history.

The paper presents the issue of burials of the victims of the Mongol invasion of Ruthenia, Poland and Hungary and the Mongol warriors in light of the surviving written sources by Christian authors, including i.a. envoys to Karakorum (Jan di Piano Carpini, C. de Bridia) and participants of the burial ceremonies (archdeacon Roger of Torre Maggiore from Great Várad, presently Oradea in Romania, and Kirakos Gandzaketsi), as well as according to uncovered archeological evidence. The author outlined the state of research on this subject and presented his own concepts regarding lack of burials of nomads on the lands they conquered.

The aim of the article is to search the roots of complicated Slovak-Hungarian relationship, which lies deeper than in the 19th century. Different interpretations of the role of the Slavs in the Hungarian state resulted in the creation of two national historiographies at the end of the 18th century, the Hungarian and the Slovak. I tried to compare them. It is to observe that recently the historians from both countries, Slovakia and Hungary started to discuss on the facts from their common history. It creates the optimistic perspectives for the future. First, I analyzed the image of the Pannonian Slavs in the Hungarian chronicles (Story of a white horse presented by the Anonymous Notary of King Béla and by the Chronicle composition of the 14th century). Moreover, I analyzed the information about this ruler in the Bohemian and South-Slavic (the Chronicle of Duklja) tradition, underlining the functional identity of Svatopluk of the Duklja Chronicle with Aquila/Atyla of the Hungarian-Polish Chronicle.

Opis:
The present work describes the morphology and morphometry of a freshwater ciliate, Zosterodasys transversus, using live observation and protargol impregnation. The population from the River Ipeľ, Slovakia is designated as a neotype because (i) no type material is available from the species described by Kahl (1928); (ii) the neotype is consistent with Z. transversus as described by Kahl (1928); (iii) the neotype is from the same biogeographic region as Kahl’s (1928) populations; and (iv) there are several similar species (e.g., Z. agamalievi) whose identity is threatened by the species to be neotypified. The main features of Z. transversus are: (i) a body size of 120–240 × 50–115 μm in vivo; (ii) a broadly to narrowly obovate or elliptical body; (iii) a spherical to very narrowly ellipsoidal macronucleus with a single globular micronucleus nearby; (iv) several scattered contractile vacuoles; (v) an average of 82 ciliary rows, most of which are interrupted by a synhymenium incompletely encircling the body; and (vi) an average of 14 nematodesmal rods strengthening walls of the cyrtos. In the well-growing neotype population, a single cell of a mirror-image type was found. Most of the structures of this monster specimen are similar to those from ordinary cells, except for the double cytostome and cyrtos.

The article encapsulates the thoughts of doc. Rozalia Čornaníčova, a Slovak andragogue, concerning the formation of a new discipline called geragogy. It is concerned with what is widely known as education in preparation „for seniority”. The author considers issues relating to meaning, status and relationships of this discipline with others.

Celem artykułu jest prawna analiza instytucji referendum ogólnokrajowego w Słowacji oraz omówienie konsekwencji jego przeprowadzania. Ze względu na liczne referenda ogólnokrajowe (osiem głosowań, 18 zagadnień poddanych pod głosowanie) Słowacja jest pod tym względem liderem wśród państw Europy Środkowej. Niemniej analiza okoliczności rozpisywania referendów, podmiotu zarządzającego oraz postawy społeczeństwa i wyników pozwalają na sformułowanie tezy, iż częstotliwość pytania o zdanie narodu nie koresponduje z ideą tego narzędzia demokracji bezpośredniej i referendum traktowane jest przez elity polityczne instrumentalnie.
The aim of this paper is to analyse legal solutions regarding national referendum in Slovakia and to discuss the results of people’s voting. Taking into account the number of national referenda conducted in Slovakia (8 votings; 18 subjects of vote) Slovakia is recognised as a leader in Central Europe. However, an analyses of the circumstnces for conducting a referendum, the subject entitled to conduct it, people’s attitudes and finally referendum’s results let us give the hipothesis that the frequency of referendum does not correspond to the main idea of a referendum as a form of direct democracy. More, a referendum is often instrumentally used by the political elites.

Z punktu widzenia małych państw geostrategia jest podstawą prowadzonej przez nie polityki zagranicznej, która powinna uwzględniać otoczenie geopolityczne. Otoczenie to podlega zmianom związanym z powstawaniem mocarstw, ich umacnianiem bądź zanikiem. Małe państwa muszą reagować na wszystkie tego typu zmiany uwarunkowań geopolitycznych. Poniższe opracowanie przedstawia geopolityczną pozycję Słowacji, jej specyficzne cechy geostrategiczne w stosunku do państw ościennych i szerszego otoczenia geopolitycznego. Krótkiej charakterystyce poddano kontekst geopolityczny procesu integracji Słowacji w ramach struktur zachodnich.
From the perspective of small states geostrategy is the basis of their foreign policies, which should take into account the geopolitical environment. This environment is subjected to change due to the formation of powers, their strengthening or fall. Small states must respond to all such geopolitical changes. This paper presents the geopolitical position of Slovakia, its unique geostrategic features in comparison to the neighboring countries and the wider geopolitical environment. The geopolitical context of the process of integration of Slovakia in the framework of Western structures was also briefly characterized.
