    The Evangelical Reformed Parish in Warsaw in the 19th century was organised on the basis of the regulations from 1777 and 1839. The Community also showed a large autonomy in relation to the sovereign authorities of the Polish Reformed Church, which was connected with the specifics of Calvinist denomination. The subject of the article is the analysis of the division competences between the main organisational units: the College Church, the Assembly of Members and the pastors.

    Opis:
    One of the main postulates of the reformation movement, apart from the theological questions, was a proposal of the internal reform of the church institution. The Father of the Reformation, as Rev. Martin Luther is called in the source literature, raised the questions concerning the mission of the Church, its role in the magisterium, and also and perhaps above all its hierarchical structure and about the role of the clergy in the process of the eternal salvation. As a result of his reflections and probably his observations and his own experiences Luther undermined in succession different dogmatic, theological questions as well as those regarding the organization of the Roman Catholic Church. Slogans of renewal and reforms of the church structure spread very rapidly through the territory of German Reich, gaining numerous supporters among European nations. One of those for whom the Reformation ideas became the main field of activity was French man John Calvin. That well-rounded, well educated and well-read lawyer, knowing the main works of the German monk, acquired his principal theses postulating the changes in the functioning of the Church. Additionally, Calvin made a division of the Church between the earthly – the visible and the heavenly – the invisible one, and the person who bonds it, guarantees its unity and permanency, the indivisibility is the only and the highest Priest – Jesus Christ. In the work of his life Institucio Religionis Christianae Calvin embodied a full picture of the Christian Church as, in his opinion, it should be. Analysing particular issues regarding the function of the clergymen, the pope, celebrating the sacraments, penance and conversion, and also the eternal salvation, we are given the basic compendium of knowledge concerning the ecclesiology by John Calvin. His teaching about the Church, although in some points different in from the preaching of Rev. Martin Luther, however oscillates within the principal slogans of Reformation: Sola Fides – the man is saved solely by faith, Sola Gratia – God’s grace is necessary for salvation, Sola Scriptura – the only source of faith is the Holy Bible. He also added the idea: Solus Christus - only Christ saves, He is in the centre of The Church, we can observe Calvin’s Christ centred attitude in his preaching and in building ideological basics of the reformed denomination.

    Opis:
    Development of Bohemian protestant settlement on Polish lands from the perspective of historical geography is presented in the article. Into account were taken both, the lands that belonged to Poland in the past (for example Wołyń), and also lands included into Poland after World War II (for example Kłodzko region). The main stages, location and conditions of settlement are described. On the basis of morphology of settlement evident in the field the impact of settlers' confession and culture on the local population is described. An importance of Bohemian origin people in the Evangelical Reformed Church in Poland is also presented.
    Artykuł prezentuje rozwój osadnictwa czeskich protestantów (luteranów oraz braci czeskich) na ziemiach polskich z perspektywy geografii historycznej; uwzględniono zarówno ziemie należące do Polski w przeszłości (np. Wołyń), jak i te włączone do niej dopiero po drugiej wojnie światowej (np. ziemię kłodzką). W artykule wyróżniono kilka zasadniczych etapów historycznych tego osadnictwa, jego lokalizację oraz przyczyny (polityczne oraz gospodarcze). Omówiono jego charakterystyczną morfologię (na podstawie pozostałych do dziś śladów w przestrzeni) oraz wpływ wyznania i kultury osadników na miejscową ludność. Podsumowaniem całości studium jest przedstawienie roli, jaką obecnie ludność pochodzenia czeskiego odgrywa w Kościele Ewangelicko-Reformowanym w Polsce.

    This paper focuses on the meaning of the National Synod of Dordrecht (1618-1619) for the history of Calvinism in the Netherlands. The author broadly presents its historical and theological backgrounds and examines the factors that caused this Ecclesiastical Gathering. The National Synod in Dordrecht was held in order to settle a serious controversy in the Dutch churches initiated by the rise of Arminianism. The Arminians (Remonstrants) taught election on the basis of foreseen faith, a universal atonement, resistible grace, and the possibility of lapse from grace. The Synod concluded with a rejection of these views, and set forth the Reformed doctrine on each point, namely: total depravity, unconditional election, limited atonement, irresistible grace, and the perseverance of the saints. One more result of the synod’s work was the decision to authorize a new translation of the Bible from the original languages. The new Dutch translation was first published in 1637 and it became known as State Translation (Statenvertaling). It has had an enormous influence in the formation of the Dutch language and the church unity. The National Synod of Dordrecht was absolutely a high point in the early history of the Reformed Church and with it, the Calvinism orthodoxy has been finally established.

    The article describes selected evangelical schools in Warsaw from their establishment to the onset of the Second World War. Particular emphasis is placed on their history, characteristics and ecumenism. Their openness to other religions and the local community is made evident by the fact that the schools were attended by students of many Christian faiths as well as Jews, who sometimes exceeded the number of Protestant students. This study takes into consideration schools based at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Parish at Małachowski Sq and Kredytowa St as well as the Evangelical Reformed Parish school at Solidarność Av. These schools, though run by Protestants, functioned in a multinational and multiethnic environment as was typical for Warsaw in the 19th and early 20th centuries.

    W artykule przedstawiono losy dwóch kościołów klasztornych: dominikanów w Janowie Podlaskim i reformatów w Białej Podlaskiej. Obie te świątynie między 1864 a 1875 r. zmieniły swe przeznaczenie: najpierw skasowano działające przy nich klasztory, następnie zostały przekształcone w cerkwie unickie, by po likwidacji Kościoła unickiego stać się cerkwiami prawosławnymi. Ich losy przedstawiono na podstawie materiałów przechowywanych w Archiwum Państwowym w Lublinie w zespole Chełmski Konsystorz Greckokatolicki.
    The article presents the fate of two convent churches: of Dominicans at Janów Podlaski and Reformed Friars Minor at Biała Podlaska. Both churches changed their intended purpose between 1864 and 1875; first, their convents were dissolved, then they were converted into Uniate churches only to be transformed into the Orthodox churches after the liquidation of the Uniate Church. Their fate has been presented based on archival materials kept in the State Archives in Lublin, in the fonds of Chełm Greek Catholic Consistory.
    Целью настоящей статьи являлось приблизить после кассационную судьбу двух упраздненных монастырских храмов: доминиканцев в Янув-Подляском (Янове Подляшском) и реформатов в Бяла-Поляской (Белой Подляшской). Оба храма в 1864–1875 гг. несколько раз меняли свое назначение. После упразднения существующих рядом с ними монастырей они стали филиальными костелами, затем переданными Униатской церкви и переделанными в церкви этой конфессии. Вместе с упразднением в 1875 г. униатской Холмской епархии, как бывшее униатское имущество, они стали православными храмами. Источниковой базой для статьи послужили материалы, касающиеся обоих костелов, находящиеся в Государственном архиве в Люблине в фонде Холмская греко-католическая консистория (инв. но. 286, 353). Сохранившиеся там документы дают возможность восстановить подробности, связанные с передачей обоих католических храмов униатам. Из них также видно, каким образом светские российские власти пытались использовать эти преобразования для удаления из униатской церкви элементов убранства и обстановки несоответствующих православным образцам.
