Opis:
The article presents the main ideas of the Lutheran Reformation. The Author asks about the “Luther Effect” – the sustained influence of the protestant theology on the European culture and civilisation. The text tries to describe a problem of Luther's way and Luther's will. The reason of Luther`s writing of 95 Thesis in 1517 was that indulgence preachers had appeared in the vicinity of Wittenberg. After many events and coincidences the Reformation becomes a religious and political movement. The analysis describes following subjects: Luther's family life, the understanding of the Reformation Church, the role of the Reformation Cities and political significance of the Reformation Dukes. There is a conclusion at the end of the article that Luther changed the world and that`s why in 2017, the Protestant church is celebrating the 500th anniversary of Luther’s 95 theses.

The article „Pre-Reformation theology of Jan Hus” presents, in its first part, life and work of Jan Hus, showing engagement of the Czech theologian in the Czech reformation-national movement of the 16th century. The second part focuses on presenting the content of Jan Hus’s most important theological work – the treaty De ecclesia – pointing, among others, to the use by him of the notion of church as a communion of the chosen and criticism of reducing the concept of church to its institutional form. The third part shows, how Jan Hus’s person and work were received by the Wittenberg Reformation, and especially by Martin Luther who, in his attitude towards the Czech reformer, underwent certain evolution from initial aversion to accepting the reformation movement as a continuation of the work started in Prague.

The Ethical Issue of the Reformer Martin Luther is still an important impulse for the Protestant Churches today. The article shows that Ethics does not belong to the largest part of Luther’s writing. There some different models of interpretation of Luther`s Ethics especially in the understanding of the relationship of Christians to the politics. The article is an attempt to find relevance of Luther`s Moral Thinking to the postmodern World. His moral advice is still present in the theological and Church discussion. On the other hand, the moral teaching of Luther is completely irrelevant to philosophical discourse.

This essay argues that Luther’s “metaphysics” is present in Heidegger’s Beiträge zur Philosophie (Contributions to Philosophy), a text many consider to be Heidegger’s second magnum opus. I argue that Luther’s “metaphysics” is present in Heidegger’s Contributions in primarily two ways: (1) there is a Lutheran structure (of existential categories) that Heidegger appropriated not only in Being and Time, but also much earlier in his lectures on St. Paul from the 1920s, of responding to a call and converting in anxious anticipation toward a futural not-yet (what Heidegger calls “the last god”); and (2) Contributions’ project concerns overcoming metaphysics, which involves first thinking through to metaphysics’ conditions for possibility, which means recognizing the “ironic nature” of beyng via what Heidegger calls “thinking concealment,” the logic of which originates in Luther’s attacks on not only Greek metaphysics, but upon Judaism and the Mosaic law as well.

The article concerns the life and work of Martin Luther and takes on the dispute over the 95 theses and the birth of the sixteenth-century Reformation. From the beginning, it was wearing the stigma experiences of the Founder. The Reformer experienced a deep concern in the area of spiritual life and he solved his dilemmas based on biblical theology, which led him to formulation of the 95 theses. The Theses didn’t cause a break with the Church, because their content wasn’t in conflict with the contemporary doctrine of the Church, however, then were formulated to harshly and sometimes they were exaggerated. He wanted to discuss and define better the matter of indulgences. The purpose of this article is to show that the teaching of M. Luther and his struggle with visible religious abuses didn’t have to end in a split in the Church, because the reform movement was meant to be a renewal of Christianity.

The issue of salvation is at the heart of Protestantism. Jesus Christ – God’s Son, true God, and true man is the Savior of all humankind. The traditional Protestant (Evangelical) theology, in both Lutheran and Calvinist confessional forms, regarding the exclusive salvation of the Church was in line with the teaching of the ancient Church. The denominational books of Lutheranism, especially the Augsburg Confession, showed that Lutheran theology in the science of salvation is biblical and it is in line with the teaching of the first councils of the indivisible Church. The teaching of the Evangelical-Reformed tradition followed in the same direction. The Heidelberg Catechism discusses in detail the Apostolic Creed, deriving from it the basic concepts of both soteriology and ecclesiology. In the opus magnum of John Calvin - Institutio, we find a direct reference to the concept of St. Cyprian proclaiming that there is no salvation outside the Church. With the emergence of the Neoprotestantism in evangelical theology and spirituality (Schleiermacher), the question of the exclusivity of the Church in the process of salvation ceased to be obvious.

The article presents Martin Luther, the Reformer as a musician and theologian of music. From his early age, Luther played the lute well, later on also the flute and sang. When Luther studied in Eisenach, he had music lessons. Because music was taught in a mathematical manner, Luther acquired good understanding of the theory of harmonics. He learned to distinguish between different musical genres. In the monastery, already as a monk, he could refine his skills. Later on Lutherwas able to transcribe and adapt folk melodies (contrafactum) and to harmonise them as well as to write music for psalms. The Reformer himself composed 36 hymns for German texts. As Luther reformed the liturgy, he accorded full importance to the sermon as well as to community singing. The singing was defined as an assertion of faith and spiritual commentary on biblical texts.Music was at the heart of the Lutheran Reformation. Luther’s theology of music is formed through the conviction that music is a particularly beautiful and unique offering of the divine creation. „Music is a gift from God and next to theology” – wrote Luther.Music also moves human hearts. To bring people joy and to praise the Lord is the music’s true task and service.

Although it would be a stretch to consider FWJ Schelling a Lutheran, he shared some critical features of Luther’s critical engagement with Catholicism. This essay engages this mutual confrontation, and then discusses the new horizon, what Schelling dubs the Johanine Church, the church for everyone and everything, that is the latent promise of the Lutheran (and Pauline) confrontation with the Petrine (or Catholic) Church. As such, this essay is an exercise in what Schelling called philosophical religion, a fruit of his late turn to positive philosophy.

The article aims to answer the question whether Luther should be considered a heretic or whether he can be seen as a hero of faith? An important basis for such an answer are first the statements of the popes of the last forty years, and then Luther’s affirmation as a deeply religious personality. Further indications are provided by the results of historical research, which show that Luther was deeply rooted in the mystical theology of his time. This is evident in his way of practising theology, where his own experience of faith has become the leading source of theological understanding. Luther’s theology is existential one, and the doctrine of justification must also be seen in this perspective. For Luther, justification by faith was above all a living, spiritual experience in his personal relationship with God, which at the same time determined his theological reflection. Keeping in mind the controversial issues, it can be stated that Luther remained in his reforming intentions rooted in the Catholic tradition of faith. Luther is neither a heretic, nor does he have to be considered a hero of the faith—he is above all a reforming theologian, who has his place in the one Catholic Church.

In Poland, the Protestant Reformation of the 16th century is most often associated with Martin Luther. However, together with Luther, the reforms were introduced into the Church by Ulrich Zwingli in Zurich, while Philip Melanchthon, Luther’s friend and collaborator, was a very important theologian in Germany. It was him who determined the ultimate doctrinal and organizational form of Lutheranism. Melanchthon was a theologian and a humanist, the reformer of German education, author of numerous textbooks widely used in all over Renaissance Europe, including Poland and Lithuania. One of Melanchthon’s major textbooks was Loci communes (1521). In this book, Melanchthon made an attempt to systematize evangelical doctrines. Consequently, it is considered the first evangelical theology textbook and, at the first time, the first work on Protestant dogmas.

Year 2017 marked by the 500th anniversary of Reformation would not exist without the seminal figure – the author of the unusual event in the history of the universal Church – that is considered the cause of schism in the Western Church. The event is presented in the light of the 50th anniversary of the inter-confessional ecumenical Lutheran-Catholic dialogues, among which the specific importance of the Report of the Lutheran-Roman Catholic Commission for Unity From Conflict to Communion (2013), is to be noted. The report deals with the Catholic-Lutheran commemoration of the Reformation in 2017. By taking into consideration various ecumenical dialogues, author of the paper decides to ask about the true image of dr Martin Luther and attempts to present him as a “witness of the Gospel and witness of Jesus Christ. At the end of his analysis, the author attempts to answer a question: who really was, and is today, Martin Luther.

Opis:
The two main streams of Reformation in the XVI century, although differentiated in many aspects, had one common point of reference. That particular ground, where the common goals took over the historically conditioned difference of interests, was based on the most important reformation catechisms – the Lutheran and Heidelberg catechisms. Created in 1528-29, Luther’s catechisms played a vital role not only in church and domestic teaching processes, but also in creating the basis for the doctrine of a new church organisation and in shaping the principles of social life. The important innovation of the Lutheran perspective in his catechism is presenting the Decalogue in material connection with its subsequent parts: Credo and Our Father. The logic behind that order reflects the message in Lutheran teachings of justification and forms the practice of Lutheran prayer life. The Heidelberg Catechism, commissioned by Frederick III, sovereign of the Electoral Palatinate in 1563 A.D. was also a work supporting the introduction of a new, evangelical-reformed church order in the Palatinate. The authors and the Prince were not only motivated by their concern about Christian upbringing of the young people, but also by the need to introduce changes to education, administration, army and the Church.
