Opis:: Quartzitic sandstone was distinguished at the lower part of the Kopieniec Formation from the Lower Subtatric Nappe (Kriżna Nappe; Fatricum) between the Bystra Valley and the Olczyska Valley, in the Tatra Mts. In previous editions of the detail geological maps of the Tatra Mts, this sandstone was not marked in this area. The quartzitic sandstone crops out at Wysokie hill, east of Kuźnice and can be easily recognized in the field. The sandstone is located above the series of the dark-grey organodetrital limestones and the black calcareous sandstones of the Fatra Formation (Rhaetian) and below the typical brownish- gray claystone of the Kopieniec Formation (Hettangian). Maximum thickness of quartzitic sandstone is about 15 m.

Opis:: Wykonano badania mineralogiczne i geochemiczne mineralizacji septarii z ciemnych iłów występujących w Gnaszynie koło Częstochowy. Reprezentują one dolną część środkowego batonu. Rozpoznana mineralizacja to piryt, sfaleryt, galena, syderyt i kalcyt, które lokują się we wnętrzu septarii. Spękania septarii mogą być związane z procesami diagenezy lub ze zjawiskami tektonicznymi, które w miękkich iłach są niewidoczne. Mineralizacja ma charakter wtórny. Obecność niewielkich ilości kruszców może być związana z siarczkami triasu i niższej części jury redeponowanymi do zbiornika jurajskiego. Roztwory mineralizujące septarie zostały po sedymentacji iłów i czasie ich diagenezy. Po spękaniu septarii roztwory te wnikały w powstałe w septariach szczeliny prowadząc do ich mineralizacji.
Mineralogical and geochemical examination of septaria from dark silts present in Gnaszyn near Częstochowa was conducted. They represent the lower part of the Middle Bathonian. Recognized mineralization includes pyrite, sphalerite, galena, siderite and calcite, localized inside the septaria. The cracks in septaria may be connected with the processes of diagenesis or with tectonic phenomena that are invisible in soft silts. The mineralization is secondary. Presence of small amounts of ores may be linked with the Triassic and lower Jurrasic sulphides redeposited in the Jurrasic pool. Mineralizing solutions were left after silts sedimentation and during their diagenesis. After the septaria cracked, the solutions were absorbed into the cracks, causing their mineralization.

Opis:: Abandoned quarries in the Wieluń Upland at Działoszyn and Wieluń in central Poland are of unique value for the detailed stratigraphical, palaeontological, sedimentological and palaeogeographical studies of the Oxfordian and Kimmeridgian stages (especially the Upper Oxfordian and Lower Kimmeridgian substages) of the Jurassic System in Europe. It is because they yield the successions of deposits containing diverse assemblages of ammonites of a great significance for stratigraphical correlation, including that corresponding to the stratigraphical interval at the newly accepted global stratotype (GSSP) between the Oxfordian and the Kimmeridgian. Moreover, the quarries show the last Late Jurassic deposits placed towards the west in central Poland and preserved against the erosion, thus of high importance for the palaeogeographical reconstructions. The quarries offer also a special opportunity for educational purposes, and might become local geological attractions as they contain abundant fossils. Additionally, due to the fact that the Wieluń Upland, especially the environs of Działoszyn, has been one of the main areas of exploitation of limestones in Poland - the scientific value of the collected material and the history of the limestone mining could be presented in a specially prepared exhibition at the local museum, supported by geo-educational paths marked out in the abandoned quarries. Cooperation between the scientific community, local administration centers, and the owners of the quarries is of fundamental importance for the subject.

Opis:: The article presents the results of investigations the porosity of the limestone of the Upper and Middle Jurassic. The open porosity was tested on samples cut from the core in the borehole of the P-1 with a depth of 80 m which was drilled in the groundwater intake Łobodno near Kłobuck. For testing were prepared 59 samples from 23 ranges a depth. Examination of open porosity were made using hydrostatic weighing the samples saturated with water in in a vacuum chamber. The tests which were conducted show a large variability of the open porosity of the Jurassic limestone in the vertical profile containing in the range of 4–24%.

Opis:: The parasitism of, and predation upon, the diverse Middle and Late Jurassic invertebrates of Poland, personally recognised by the authors, are reviewed. All cases are discussed either in the biological (anatomical, ethological), or ecological terms, to show the mode of infection, or injury, and the relationship between the engaged taxa. The preys to parasites are exemplified by the prosopid crabs infested by bopyrid isopods, the crinoids infested by myzostomid polychaetes (both disk-shaped, and wormlike), and the echinoids attacked by copepod arthropods involving either swellings of spines, or gall-shaped cysts upon the test outerly. Of traumatic events, discussed is regeneration of injuries in the belemnite hooked guards, and in the ammonite shells of distorted ribbing. The pearl-like structures in belemnite guards (the “belemnite pearls”) are interpreted as caused by a tiny parasite encapsulated during further growth of the belemnite. Heaps of ammonite shell hash are thought to represent the ,“kitchen middens” of a larger predator which has feasted upon the fleshy tidbits alone, the beaten shell having been left. The post mortem damage of shells is remarked (taphonomic feedback and/or aftermath) to be distinguished from that one acted in shells of alive specimens of the Middle and Late Jurassic of Poland.

Opis:: Paper presents results of analysis of the assemblage of flint artefacts from the settlement of Linear Pottery culture (LBK) at the site no. 6 in Podlesie, Świętokrzyskie voivodeship. Importance of the site is primarily by its location: on the border of two geographical regions, two geological conditions, two settlement eccentrics of the LBK and two provinces of lithic raw materials. Within the flint assemblage we can distinguish two main classes of lithical artefacts: an internally cohesive collection of 104 obsidian products and a collection of 2069 artefacts made of at least five different types of flint. In the group of siliceous rocks, the most numerous is the Jurassic flint from Cracow area – 53%. Second place in the inventory is occupied by the Światchowski flint, which share reaches the level of 19%. Only slightly smaller are amounts of chocolate flint – 15%.

Opis:: The Upper Jurassic limestones in the vicinity of Cracow underwent extensive dedolomitization process. Petrographic and cathodoluminescent analyses of carbonates in four test areas confirm the dedolomitization as have been developed with various intensity. The alteration of dolomite into calcite occurs as centripetal and centrifugal dedolomitization. Both processes lead finally to a complete disintegration of the dolomite crystals; calcite pseudomorphs after dolorhombs are the end products. These calcite pseudomorphs are abundant in limestones of St. Anna Mt. and in the Kostrze quarry, but are scarce in the Twardowski Cliffs area and in the outcrop of Księża Mt., which indicates a less advanced and slower dedolomitization process in the latter two areas. Most probably the initiation of dedolomitization started from the moment when a carbonate bank emerged from the sea water (Vierek, 2003); temperature of mixing fluids decreased considerably, whereas Ca 2+/Mg+- ratio in the same fluids increased.
