Realizm i uniwersalizm rozwija nadzieję i umożliwia osobie branie udziału w odczytaniu porządku i wizji rzeczywistości.
Hope motivates every action, and makes targets that are difficult to achieve become achievable. It is the basic way to enter into the reality of the human condition and to participate in it creatively. Hope is a universal and real trait. Realism and universalism develop hope and allow the person to take part in reading the order and vision of reality. With hope, a man can understand what his provisionalness is and how his future is born; he finds himself in everyday life. In hope there is great liberating potential. In its deepest content, it is trusting God, who is faithful to his promises.

Opis:
Pedagogical reflection is accompanied from the start by the conviction that upbringing is an art and requires a particular kind of sensitivity, innovativity in action and creative engagement. Upbringing today is upbringing in a society that is diverse, wavering, full of tension, and in which there are many opportunities for choice, great personal responsibility, with life chances, but also with many dangers. This is why an authentic upbringing requires, above all, a closeness and trust which brings love, a first and fundamental experience which is, or at least which ought to be, the love of a child by its parents. The upbringer, thus, stands in a relationship to the upbringee as with a person, and not a material which may be freely formed. The upbringing itself is aiming towards the future positive development of the child such that s/he will be able to realize his/her “potential”, shape his/her will and develop as an “inimitable person” both in the individual and social senses. The “realisation of the individual” which takes place during upbringing leaves space for hope. In the promise and hope the future interacts with the human life even now, and by the same token shows the sense behind upbringing. Whereas, from the perspective of “Christian realism”, it is emphasised that the individual always finds finds him or herself in a certain “existential situation”. And so upbringing is not merely a dialogue and a relationship between people, but it is also a real relationship with God. It is God who comes to meet the individual in history and who gives him the unfailing promise of total fulfilment (joy, a sense of life). In this view the sign of hope is also the building of a future (a community) through respecting the natural laws and fundamental freedoms of people and nations.

Opis:
Hope accompanies man in the pursuit of fulfilling something that is essential and necessary for human existence. It counteracts the sense of loss of the most important values for a human being. A lack of hope leads people to despair; and thus often to make decisions leading to irreversible life situations. Hope lets people pass through the most difficult moments and periods of life. On the one hand; it shapes the existential vision of a human being; filled with his trust; faith in a better; favorable destiny; and on the other - affects his sense of transcendence; which pervades comfort. Hope improves human life. And although there is no hope without fear; it is the way of seeking the meaning of life. Hope is a force that especially protects those who are on the verge of despair that takes the sense of bleakness. As a rational being assigned to the structure of personality of every human being; it can be perceived in several contradictory dimensions. Hope is the cause that improves all dimensions of every human life. It realizes itself through the world of values to which a human is heading without which he cannot shape the quality of his life. Hope has its own structure through which one should understand a certain system of peculiar properties coming with different strength into mutual relations; which are both its elements and constitute the whole that decide for the individual and unique character of the sense of hope in the case of every human being. The question arises about the meaning of hope; its place and role in pedagogical processes; in which the conscious subjects are people that are brought up and raised. The pedagogy of hope is an attempt to penetrate the essence of particularly important elements/factors supporting the development of the human personality.

Opis:
The aim of the article is to present the role of the phenomenon of hope in the philosophy of education of Wojciech Chudy. The contemporary philosophies of hope, of G. Marcel, P. Ricoeur and personalistic thought of J. Tischner and John Paul II, are the background of the discussion. Ontic and axiological basis of hope might be found in the structure of a man. Hope is built upon the personal features of: potential, contingency, transcendence, connected with the temporal dimension of life – constant inclination towards future and absolute values. It is also rooted in features of dignity, ability to discover and choose the truth, which are realized in acts of love. They make the upbringing of a man “the work on the human hope” that aims to attain the plenitude of personal development by the subjects of educational relation. It is realized by the effort of self-education, motivated by the testimony of the educator, emerging in the attitudes of dialogue and encounter. The hope has its special meaning in the border situations of the human existence (suffering, illness, death). It enables to discover their sense and directs towards eschatological perspective of the ultimate hope of the eternal life. The phenomenon of hope, expressed in the philosophical-pedagogic thought of Wojciech Chudy, brings the positive view on life and development of a man, which becomes the motive of undertaking pedagogical actions.

The article presents Bruno Schulz’s and Heinrich Kleist considerations on matter. A comparative approach enables a new interpretation of Traktat o manekinach by Schulz and of some selected works by Kleist. The author ponders about the role of elpis, around which the human world is created. The Greek word: elpis, contains a whole parable about a hope which has stood up to nonexistence, darkness, a lack of form. A human being turns out to be forced to create, knead matter, because his life depends on it. By shaping things he gives reality to his own world that may disappear at any time. Both reflected upon authors, Schulz and Kleist, choose two different paths to contact with matter and they inscribe it – together with a human being – into a philosophical thought that goes far beyond simple the “living” – “lifeless” opposition.

Opis:
Religious life, understood as life resulting from the actions of the Holy Spirit, called „spiritual life”, should cover all aspects of human existence. This article has been written from this point of view, i.e. Catholic theology. It is difficult to speak of human development, about stages of his achieving maturity, as well as internally integrated personality when you do not take into account spiritual life. Acts of spiritual struggle should cover life in the periodof old age in its specific phases, or even appear as the culmination of a lifetime’s spiritual maturity. Specific forms of this spiritual experience – highlights are acts of confrontation in the senior age with the truth of impending death. They can take place on the level of specific values. It is an experience of freedom, hope and solitude. Acceptance of the truth concerning the final existential status and being fully aware while carrying these states testifies the ability for transcendence acts. In a natural, thus inborn way, living beings, especially humans, are focused on being andon development of life. Behavioral defense actions appear when facing any threats. And so the entire human culture, from means and development of disciplines, practice of science, all the way to different methods of creating politics of consent and cooperation with people, is focused on protecting against loss of life. On the grounds of medical science continual attempts are being made to overcome death ultimately. Unfortunately, the final defeat of thefact of death is still very far away. Becoming aware of the upcoming moment of death without panic and paralyzing fear is a higher level of worthy living of one’s humanity. A fairly common practice proposed by institutional care centers and assistance offered to people at senior age is the method of running away from the final confrontation and offering substitution procedures such as proposals of many forms of physical and mental activity. This offer includes continuation of professional work, traveling, and participation in studies, dancing clubs and all types of entertainment. There is no need to depreciate these proposals, butthey cannot be the only model of experiencing the period of old age. They cannot be selfdeception techniques. It is striking how much vita activa dominates over vita contemplativa in the general culture. There are too few proposals for the continuation of Christian religious development in the form of performing spiritual acts of transcendence. There is no program to learn the ability of „crossing any spiritual limitations” in the sense of hope for „being” in the future, despite the fact that old people are to the greatest extent engaged in church and religious communities. Nothing can substitute for proposals of spiritual maturity. Unfortunately, church orthopraxis in this respect is also limited and neglected.

Opis:
What is hope, does it belong to any cognitive structure of the mind or rather is it a kind of human feeling? The aim of this paper is to describe the theory of hope according to C.R. Snyder (1944–2006). This contemporary point of view has provided a lot of inspiration for many studies in a variety of different fields. Undoubtedly, the reality of hope has a big impact on educational performance, health condition, stress management and adaptive skills. It is not only a life-line in times of emergency or strife, when humans have to cross some difficulties in life, but it is also the daily force to live in the present. Hope according to Snyder is a three dimensional construct of the integrated cognitive process (willpower, waypower and goal direction). The applicability and power of this construct lies in its potential to change the general level of hope in individual lives and social groups, not just in the future, but in the present.

Hope provides life with sense. Therefore it is important to experience it, to express and sustain it. Hope reveils the condition of contemporary human beings. It never leaves them; on contrary, they can abandon hope. Master is a source of hope for the others – this is a person of extraordinary knowledge of things and rightousness. In a relationship with a disciple, master encourages him or her to work on their personality, being an example of endurance on the path of self-development. We can distinguish two concepts of mastership. The methodic one – emphasizes one's perfect knowledge and ability to use it. According to it, one can learn the master's pattern of behaviour. The goal is one's perfection. The second concept – the personalist one – promotes sacrifition of one's perfection in service to fellowmen. One's perfection is not a goal here, but has its own goal: this is the disciple's growth. In upbringing only the personalist mastership makes it possible to experience the master's existence in its entirety, which represents the hope for the disciples development.

Opis:
The article is an attempt to present, on a literary level, two differing perspectives of old age in various texts of the Hebrew Bible. First, a suggestion is made regarding the point in life when somebody could be regarded as old. A brief mention is made of the longevity of characters appearing in the so-called Primeval Cycle of Genesis 1-11. Then, it is indicated that Levitical instructions of Numbers 4 and 8 as well as rules of valuating people in Leviticus 27, can settle the beginning of old age at fifty or sixty years of age respectively, dependent on the type of work one performed. Second, the article focuses on positive aspects of old age in the Hebrew Bible, showing that to grow old was desired, since it was regarded as a realization and fulfilment of somebody's life. Old age in certain contexts can be viewed as a blessing from YHWH (e.g., Exod. 20,12) and a reward for a righteous living (Ps. 92,12-15). Old people according to Levitical traditions are to be respected because YHWH himself respects their old age (cf. Lev. 19,32). In early sapiential traditions of the Book of Proverbs, old age is connected with wisdom as this qualification assumes not only theoretical knowledge, but requires much practical experience. Therefore, wisdom seldom goes hand in hand with the young. Third, the article proceeds to present negative aspects of old age described in various traditions of the Hebrew Bible. It is pointed out that those texts speak honestly of infirmities of being old, such as weaker eyesight and taste, decreasing ability to procreate, and increasing disposition to being manipulated by others. A special accumulation of negative features of old age can be found in a later sapiential tradition of Qoheleth 12,2-6. Yet, it is suggested that old age is not the worst experience accoring to the sage, but endless oppression and loneliness are (cf. Eccles. 4,1-3.7-12). Finally, it is noted that some traditions expressing eschatological hope restore and promote the positive picture of old age. Deutero-Isaiah looks to a lengthening of human life far beyond a hundred years (Isa. 65,20). The Book of Jubilees 23,27 gives hope of extending human life to nearly a thousand years, which may be viewed as returning to the unrealized ideal of the Primeval Cycle in Genesis 1-11. Thus, old age can be viewed mainly as a positive perspective of human life.

The paper aims at examining the predictive role of hope in hedonistic and eudaimonistic dimensions of subjective well-being. Five questionnaires were applied: Scale of Hope, BHI-12 Questionnaire, Satisfaction with Life Scale, PANAS-X Scale, Psychological Well-Being Scale. 206 people were subjected to the above methods. The obtained results suggest that hope understood in terms of success and as basic hope is interconnected both with hedonistic and eudaimonistic well-being. Hope for success appears to be a better predictor for a majority of dimensions of well-being, apart from the affective dimension of subjective well-being in which basic hope has a stronger predictive value. The existing connections between hope and hedonistic and eudaimonistic well-being can result from the concept of goals which is deeply embedded in both constructs and has significant motivational roles.

In order to verify the hypotheses a group of 144 high school graduates was tested. The first survey took place 6 months and the other 14 days before final exams. The following tests were used: CISS, STAI, KNS. The results of this study indicate that the overall level of anxiety has increased in the research group and this increase was greatest in the emotions-focused group. However, the level of success hope significantly decreased in the group favoring task-oriented style. There were no significant changes observed in the level of success hope in the remaining groups.

Although dying as the last act of life constitutes part of our earthly existence, death is difficult to accept. Faced with death an individual has always started asking questions about the meaningfulness of his/ her life and life after death. In the contemporary western culture characterized among others by the collapse of the social structures, people very rarely die surrounded by their families as they used to do, but in hospitals, i.e. in isolation, suffering from loneliness, connected to a range of technologically advanced medical devices. Socio-cultural changes have brought about a conviction that death ends human existence. Catholic faith, however, offers hope that death provides access to desirable future events. As a pass-through state death is the end and the beginning, since after death life is transformed. Consequently, we die trustfully hoping to be rewarded with eternal life.
