The article attempts at giving an adequate characteristics of Albert Einstein as a philosopher. Firstly, it presents a philosophical biography of the founder of the relativity theory. In order to fulfil this aim, first it was shown how, what manner and why Einstein became also a philosopher. Secondly, a reconstruction of Einstein's views was undertaken to show his attitude to philosophy as a special kind of the human knowledge as well as to characterize it at the metalanguage level. Finally, the main topics of his philosophy are in short presented.

To be able to determine the simultaneity of distant events, one has to make use of a convention. Einstein's famous definition of simultaneity, which sets e=1/2 , is a case of such a convention. The problem, dealt with in this paper, is to answer the question of whether the choice of such a convention is obligatory or not. The partisans of conventionality of simultaneity argue, that the standard synchronization procedure of clocks, based on the Einstein's definition, is not necessitated by facts concerning the physical universe, but can be replaced by any procedure originating from the definition of simultaneity, given 0 < e < 1. The present article contains some arguments in favor of, as well as against, the conventionality of simultaneity. Apart from Einstein's standard synchronization procedure, special attention is paid to Reichenbach's definition of simultaneity and Malament's theorem. Some attempts at giving an absolute definition of simultaneity are also presented. Finally, an argument from the rationality of the world is formulated.

In the article some philosophical issues regarding the emergence of the modern cosmology are discussed. The mathematical field equations enabled for the first time in the history to set a cosmological problem as a physical one. The “power” of mathematics was not easy to be read by the pioneers of cosmology. Also the philosophical perspective on the Universe changed in front of this “power” expressed by Einstein and de Sitter in their models. In the paper we propose also some new ideas related to the mathematics of cosmology as a physical science.

The article presents Albert Einstein’s standpoint on the issue of mutual relations between science and philosophy. First the metaphilosophical context of that standpoint is shown. It concerns the conception of science and philosophy accepted by the author of the relativity theory. Findings in that field showed that Einstein opted for close connections between science and philosophy and he treated them as both influence of philosophy on science and influence of science on philosophy. In the first case, the influence of philosophy is marked, according to our author, first and foremost in science treated as a process. It manifests its presence mainly in the procedures of discovering new scientific theories, their selection and acceptance. However, it is not present in the procedures of direct justifications of those theories. Einstein also saw the presence of philosophy in science treated as a product. Then philosophy enters scientific theories in the form of general principles and assumptions placed in the so-called exterior base of the theory, whereas, according to Einstein, the presence of philosophical theses in the main body of the scientific theory as their immanent element is not permitted. As far as the influence of science on philosophy is concerned our author states that it has a twofold dimension. The very fact of existence of science and procedures that take place in it as well as changes show their influence on issues taken up by epistemology and philosophy of science. Concrete scientific achievements mark their reference to the problems considered within the confines of broadly understood philosophy of nature. Einstein's standpoint clearly lacks deepened logical-methodological analyses concerning the issue of mutual connections between science and philosophy presented here.

The 1935 thought experiment of Einstein, Podolsky and Rosen is one of the most important episodes in the history of the dispute about the correct interpretation of quantum mechanics. The present paper deals with the origin of the EPR paper and discusses some other thought experiments that preceded the formulation of the Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen argument. Special attention is paid to the evolution of a simply photon-box experiment, which was devised by Einstein in 1930 and then modified by him several times before 1935. It is argued that the scheme of the original EPR argument is in fact contained in these few seminal experiments.

In these remarks I do undertake one more time the attempt to answer the following question: what do agnostics really want? This issue is so complicated that even the agnostics themselves had great trouble in delivering the answer. This is also related to these agnostics, such as the recalled here Charles Darwin, Albert Einstein, and Stephen W. Hawking, who belong to the greatest format of scholars. The agnostics are being distanced from, both the atheists and theists. However they do judge differently their views it is important that as well the first as the latter ones may appreciate what stands behind agnosticism and this might be very variable.

The second Law of Newton's dynamics could be regarded as a research program: by investigating momentum change, one is able to obtain simple formulae for expressing the physical force. However, such a program is unrealistic because of the problem with defining the concept of inertial system. Einstein has solved this problem in his general theory of relativity. In this theory, Gravity is not a force but rather the geometry of the world. It does not act at a distance, but determines local motions of masses. Einstein's research program consisted in a bold hypothesis in the field of mathematical physics rather than in any mathematization of observational results. Ocena wzajemnego podobieństwa finansowych szeregów czasowych jest jednym z problemów, w którym kwestia właściwego doboru metody analitycznej zaznacza się bardzo wyraźnie. Z reguły problem ten sprowadzany jest do analizy korelacji - co nie zawsze prowadzi do właściwych rezultatów. Często są to oceny wręcz sprzeczne ze wizualną obserwacją lub wiedzą ekspercką. Powodów takiego stanu rzeczy można upatrywać zarówno we właściwościach samej miary korelacyjnej i jej adekwatności do analizowanych danych, jak również w aspekcie metodologicznym przeprowadzanego badania. W niniejszym artykule zaproponujemy alternatywne rozwiązanie oparte na miarach dywergencji, w szczególności dywergencji Bosego-Einsteina. Przeprowadzone eksperymenty na poglądowych danych symulowanych potwierdzają użyteczność zaproponowanych rozwiązań
The similarity assessment of the financial time series is the one of problems where the proper methodological choice is very important. The typical correlation approach can lead to misleading results. Often the similarity score is contrary to the visual observations, expert’s knowledge and even a common sense. The reasons of such situations can be associated with the properties of the correlation measure and its adequateness for analyzed data, as well as in terms of methodology aspects. In this article, we point these disadvantages associated with the use of correlation to assess the similarity of financial time series as well as we propose the alternative solution based on divergence measures. In particular, we focus on the Bose- Einstein divergence. The practical experiments with simulated data confirm the validity of our concept.
