    Since the beginning of David Cameron’s rule in the United Kingdom (2010) Eurosceptic sentiments have intensified, leading to a split in society, a referendum and, finally, Brexit. Germany was for the UK remaining in the EU, but after the referendum Germany announced the EU would negotiate hard to have its conditions met. Germany decided that Brexit provided favorable prospects for enhancing cooperation among the remaining 27 states. The most difficult negotiating items concern financial settlements between London and Brussels (ca. EUR 60 billion), the status of EU citizens employed and residing in the territory of the UK, and the North Ireland-Irish Republic border. The negotiations of a new trade agreement between the EU and the UK are also difficult.

    Europeanism exceeds the political and social mindset, it also provides the way of thinking about Europe, the Europeans, their identity, culture and homogeneity, which is paradoxically constituted on the basis of heterogeneity (“unity in diversity”). One may distinguishes two contrary approaches towards the UE: Euroscepticism and Euroenthusiasm The first orientation is very vivid in the British society and it is reflected not only in the words of politicians but also in the mood of the nation, expressed in the Brexit referendum. The latter orientation is common among Poles who enjoy the privilege of joining to the exclusive club. The European and citizenship education reflect these antagonistic approaches. The aim of the paper is an attempt to reconstruct and analyse the contemporary debate on citizenship education in the perspective of European Union. The analyse of educational trends about Europe and Europeanism is significant if Brexit is taking into the consideration.

    W artykule zostały przedstawione najważniejsze czynniki skłaniające mieszkańców Walii do opowiedzenia się w referendum z 2016 r. za wystąpieniem Wielkiej Brytanii ze struktur unijnych. Wychodząc z założenia, że możliwości rozwoju społecznego, gospodarczego i politycznego w ramach Unii Europejskiej staną się niedostępne dla całej Wielkiej Brytanii po urzeczywistnieniu brexitu, autor kreśli wizję najbliższej przyszłości Walii jako regionu peryferyjnego, dysponującego niewielkim potencjałem demograficznym i ekonomicznym i silnie uzależnionego od centralnego ośrodka decyzyjnego w Londynie.
    The main factors stimulating the Welsh people behaviour during the British membership in the European Union referendum in 2016, i.e. voting for leaving the EU structures by the United Kingdom are set out in this article. Based on the assumption that possibilities of social, economic and political development in the frames of the European Union would be unavailable for the whole of the UK after Brexit implementation, an author draws vision of immediate future of Wales, as peripheral region with small demographic and economic potential, strongly dependent on decisions of decisive head centre in London.

    W artykule dokonano analizy artykułów prasowych opublikowanych w dzienniku „The Times” prezentujących kampanię polityków brytyjskich w czerwcu 2016 r., na kilka tygodni przed referendum. Przedstawiono dominującą tematykę tych artykułów. Cztery najczęstsze hasła to: „opinia międzynarodowa”, „gospodarka” oraz „przyszłość po Brexicie” i „imigracja”. W zakończeniu poruszono m.in. kwestię wpływu Brexitu na politykę społeczną.
    The paper presents the analysis of the coverage of political campaign both in favour and against leaving the EU by the British journal „The Times”. The author focuse on June 2016, i.e. last weeks of the campaign and a week after the referendum. The Leavists (Leave, Vote Leave), politicians fostering Brexit were mostly focused on immigration. Their opponents, the Remainers (Remain, Britain Stronger in Europe) were either showing the positive contribution of the EU into Britain or presenting the negative possibilities and scenarios after Brexit. The Author also reviews and analyses the collected writings and selected the “topics of the day”, the most popular theme in each daily issue in June 2016. The three most popular topics were: “international judgment”, “economy” and “future after Brexit” (with “immigration” as joint third place). The Author also raises the topic of Brexit inflfl uence on social (and public) policy of the United Kingdom.

    Wystąpienie Wlk. Brytanii z Unii Europejskiej (UE) spowodowało znaczące implikacje dla Polski i dla całej UE. Brexit zakończył się wraz z uzgodnieniem 24.12.2020 r. umowy określającej zasady współpracy między UE i Wlk. Brytanią od początku 2021 r., tj. po zakończeniu okresu przejściowego. Celem artykułu jest wskazanie na wybrane postanowienia umów regulujących od początku 2021 r. relacje między Polską i całą UE a Wlk. Brytanią oraz próba oceny skutków tych postanowień dla polskiej gospodarki. Przedmiotem analizy są dwie kwestie: a) zmiana warunków prowadzenia handlu towarami i jej implikacje dla polskiego handlu oraz b) postanowienia finansowe i ich wpływ na rozliczenia Polski z budżetem unijnym. Główne wnioski są następujące: mimo braku ceł wzrosły koszty obsługi administracyjnej ruchu towarowego, m.in. w wyniku wprowadzenia dokumentów celnych, certyfikatów technicznych, sanitarnych itp. Zakłócone zostały dostawy wielu produktów, których handel odbywa się w ramach międzynarodowych łańcuchów wartości. Brexit wpłynął też negatywnie na rozliczenia finansowe Polski z budżetem UE. Z jednej strony wyeliminował on koszt finansowania rabatu brytyjskiego i pokrewnych rabatów. Z drugiej jednak państwa korzystające wcześniej z obniżonego finansowania rabatu brytyjskiego wywalczyły nowe mechanizmy korekcyjne, które są pokrywane – jak poprzednio – przez wszystkie pozostałe państwa, w tym Polskę.
    The UK’s exit from the European Union resulted in significant implications for Poland and the entire EU. Brexit ended with an agreement on December 24, 2020 that set out the principles of future cooperation between the EU and the UK. This paper presents selected provisions of agreements regulating EU-UK relations from 2021 and assesses the effects of these provisions on the Polish economy. The analysis focuses on two issues: a/ changes in trading rules for goods and their implications for Polish trade, b/ financial provisions and their impact on Poland’s settlements with the EU budget. The main conclusion is that, despite the lack of customs duties, the cost of administrative services increased as a result of the introduction of transport documents and technical certificates. The deliveries of many products traded within international value chains were disrupted. Brexit also had a negative impact on Poland’s financial settlements with the EU budget. It eliminated the cost of financing the British rebate and associated rebates. But countries that earlier benefited from the reduced financing of the British rebate have won new correction mechanisms covered by other EU members.
