The author discusses the basic assumptions of the planned regulation of the professional artist’s status in Polish legal system, including: the establishment of the Polish Chamber of Artists, the rules and method of confirming and verifying the status of a professional artist, and defining the rights of these artists. The author states that in order to achieve the ratio legis of the Bill, the regulations of the act should guarantee the full independence, impartiality of the Chamber’s activities and the possession of expert competences by the members of the Council of the Polish Chamber of Artists.

The text emphasizes the difference between two artistic approaches. The first one of them is rare and comprises various kinds of artistic games with death undertaken by the artists, whereas the second one depends on playing with the subject of death, where death plays the part of an „embellishment” or some kind of attraction, which should draw the attention of the viewer. The text concentrates on such artistic realizations, in which the first of the mentioned approaches is visible. The selected „games with death” in the works by, among others, K. Kozyra, A. Szapocznikow, R. Opałka and Ch. Boltanski, are analysed. The analyses make use of theoretical works by, among others, H.G. Gadamer, P. Ariès, H. Belting, R. Barthes and G. Steiner.

The article discusses the biographical accounts and stories about Frédéric Chopin published in the most representative children’s magazines of the turn of the twentieth century: Wieczory Rodzinne (Family evenings), Przyjaciel Dzieci (Children’s friend) and Moje Pisemko (My little magazine). A kind of complementary role to them is played by the analysis of Janina Sedlaczkówna’s 1891 book Dwaj mistrze: opowiadanie o życiu Artura Grottgera i Fryderyka Chopina (Two maestros: a story about the lives of Artur Grottger and Frédéric Chopin) and Teresa Jadwiga Papi’s stories from 1898 of the same title Dwaj mistrze (Two maestros) about Chopin and Moniuszko. The collected comments and conclusions are presented in relation to twentieth- century biographical texts about Chopin.

In the article the hypothesis of motivational polymorphism in creativity is formulated and confirmed. The hypothesis assumes that activation of creative behaviour needs many different types of motivation, which are variations of one main motivation. The theoretical basis of this article rests on Józef Kozielecki’s concept of psychotransgressionism, which assumes that creative behaviour can be activated by three motivations: self-esteem motivation (hubristic), motivation of the meaning of life and motivation of self-efficiency. In this study on a sample of interpreting artists (N = 133), creative behaviour was measured using the STZ questionnaire (Strzałecki 2003). The motivational orientations were measured using the Polish adaptation of Power Motivation Scale (PMS) by Tokarz and Trzebińska (2011), the Polish adaptation of Life Attitude Profile questionnaire (LAP-R) by Klamut (2010) and the Polish adaptation of General Self- Efficacy Scale questionnaire (GSES) by Juczyński (2001). The results confirmed the hypothesis of a polymorphic nature of motivation in creative people. Educational implications of results are discussed.

Opis:
Prevalent at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, the theme of the artist and art found its reflection in stories by Aleksandr Kuprin. The present article narrows down our examination of the theme solely to painters, sculptors, and representatives of the world of music, as their example allows one to observe a certain division in the artistic community. When portraying painters and sculptors, the prosaist mainly focuses on the psychology of his characters, and their motivation; he depicts the characters’ struggles with the reality around them, as well as their alienation and asceticism. However, while delineating the profiles of musicians and singers, the writer also takes notice of their appearance, which constitutes one of the aspects of self-creation in response to the then expectations, as well as of their spoilt, vain, and hedonistic lifestyle.

Autor omawia współczesne uwarunkowania kulturowe, pozwalające jednostkom na samodzielne konstruowanie tożsamości. Podkreśla również, iż w obszarach sztuki i nauki dochodzi obecnie do wykraczania poza klasyczne podziały dyscyplinarne. Często odkrycia naukowe upodobniają się do eksperymentów artystycznych. W związku z tym szczególne pole do twórczych działań otwiera się przed naukowcami o kompetencjach artystów. Analizę efektów takiego jednostkowego działania autor omawia z wykorzystaniem pojęcia afordancji Jamesa J. Gibsona. Nowe technobiologiczne uwarunkowania twórczości artystycznej są przedstawione na przykładzie kulturowej i krajobrazowej transmobilności, uzyskanej z wykorzystaniem motocykla enduro. Puentą artykułu jest wskazanie na naukową odkrywczość performatywnych eksperymentów poetyckich, w których indywidualne otwarcie na świat (afordancja) staje się sposobem na kreowanie odtekstowionych sposobów reprezentacji doświadczenia.
The author discusses the contemporary aspects of culture which allows for self-construction of identity. He also points out that in the areas of arts and sciences we can observe transcending the traditional disciplinary divisions. Scientific discoveries often become similar to artistic experiments. Therefore, new opportunities for creative activities are opening up for researchers with competencies of artists. The author discusses the analysis of the effects of such artistic and scientific activities with the use of the concept of affordances James J. Gibson. New techno-biological possibilities of artistic creation are presented on the example of cultural transmobility that was obtained with the use of Husqvarna enduro motorcycle. The last part of the essay is presenting the novelty of scientific experiments with exploring poetic techno-bio-performances, in which the individual opening to the world (affordance) becomes a way of creating non-textual ways of representing experience.

Artykuł stanowi krótki przyczynek do biografii Henryka Warsa; kompozytora, jazzmana, pianisty. Twórcy najbardziej rozpoznawalnych motywów muzycznych do filmów przedwojennych, takich jak „Umówiłem się z nią na dziewiątą”, „Sex appeal”. Wars kontynuował swoją twórczość muzyczną po wojnie w Hollywood, gdzie zmarł w 1977 r. Obok wątków biograficznych poruszone zostały mniej znane aspekty jego barwnego życiorysu. Do takich niewątpliwie zaliczyć należy twórczość kompozytora w zakresie tworzenia klasycznych form muzycznych, a także luźne uwagi dotyczące pośmiertnej identyfikacji kompozytora jako osoby zakorzenionej w kulturze żydowskiej. Mogą one posłużyć badaczom do szerszego spojrzenia na problem tożsamości polskich artystów żydowskiego pochodzenia w ich powojennych losach.
This paper is a brief contribution to the biography of Henryk Wars; a composer, jazzman, and pianist. He composed music to very well-known musical motives to pre-war films, such as I have a date with her at nine, Sex appeal. Wars continued his musical composition after the war in Hollywood, where he died in 1977. Aside to biographic elements the paper addresses the less known facts from his colourful lifetime. Undoubtedly, such is his composition in the area of classical music forms, and some casual remarks on the posthumous identification of the composer as a person rooted in Jewish culture. They may serve scholars to acquire a broader perception on the problem of identity of the Polish artists of Jewish descent in their post-war lives.

Cyprian Kamil Norwid był jednym z najbardziej inspirujących i wielowymiarowych twórców XIX wieku w polskiej literaturze i sztuce. Jego spuścizna obejmuje poezję, prozę, dramat, malarstwo, rysunek, grafikę, próby rzeźbiarskie. Artysta reprezentował typ dziewiętnastowiecznego erudyty o szerokich horyzontach intelektualnych i wszechstronnym wykształceniu. Interesował się m.in.: historią idei, filozofią, religioznawstwem, językoznawstwem, historią sztuki, mitologią, heraldyką, literaturą polską i obcą, antykiem, kulturą śródziemnomorską, dziejami cywilizacji aż do rewolucji przemysłowej. W jego dorobku artystycznym można wyróżnić kilka stałych, powtarzających się, intertekstualnie ze sobą powiązanych kręgów tematyczno-ikonograficznych, tj.: motywy związane z historią i kulturą starożytną, ikonografia i myśl religijna, motywy literackie, przedstawienia alegoryczno-symboliczne (np. zagadnienia metafizyczne, archetypy człowieka – wędrowca, starca, mędrca, artysty itp.), przedstawienia animalistyczne, karykatury. Interdyscyplinarna spuścizna Norwida charakteryzuje się dążeniem do integracji, harmonijnego i spójnego połączenia aktu artystycznego z poglądami na świat i życie.
Cyprian Kamil Norwid was one of the most inspiring and multidimensional 19th century artists in the Polish literature and art. His legacy covers poetry, prose, drama, painting, drawing, graphics and sculpture attempts. The artist represented a type of 19th erudite of vast intellectual horizons and comprehensive education. He was among others interested in the history of ideas, philosophy, religious studies, history of arts, mythology, heraldry, Polish and foreign literature, antiquity, Mediterranean culture, history of civilization until the industrial revolution. Within his artistic legacy one can list a few constant, repeated, intertextually connected with one another thematic areas – iconographic, i.e. motives connected with ancient history and culture, iconography and religious thought, literary motives, allegoric and symbolic presentations (e.g. metaphysic issues, archetypes of a man - wanderer, old man, wise man, artist, etc.), animalist presentations, caricature. Norwid’s interdisciplinary legacy is characterised by striving after integration, harmonious and coherent combination of an artistic act with views on the world and life.

The article is an explanation of the method of examining the modern phenomenon of linking the artist with a work of art. Such approach is most often the result of an attempt to control the reception of one’s own creation, to create a discourse on one’s own art. The title ‘artist as a text’ is a construction in which a work of art, self-commentary and elements of the artist’s biography intertwine to create a network of relations between these different types of messages. This suggests a situation of a direct message, an impression that the viewer is communicating with the backstage of the creation of the work, and thus directly with the artist himself. This is especially important in modern art, which is programmatically innovative – to the extent that the recipient is faced with the necessity to create a way of reception. The applied method is mainly based on the example of theatrical artists (because they often place themselves in a work of art even iconically), but it can be useful for examining artists from other fields of art.

Management of the  “unwanted memory”of an artist. A case study of the “accursed poet,”Rafał WojaczekThis article presents the memory management of the poet from the perspective of the category of “unwanted memory”-a new and potentially promising research field. The “unwanted memory,”which followed the development of intensive studies of individual, collective and historical memory initiated at the beginning of the 20th century, is a concept needed in public and scientific discourse. The analysis of examples of hard, painful events in the history of independent Poland (1stand 2ndWorld War, brutal attacks against Jews, Lemko and Boyko; Communist occupation after WW II) proved the deep need for the “unwanted memory,”which would allow for substantive classification and interpretation of historical events. The article focuses on discussing the category of “unwanted memory”on a particular example -the poet RafałWojaczek (1945-1971), who is considered among the controversial “accursed poets”in Polish literature of the 20thcentury. The memory of this eccentric character is ambiguous among the many categories of recipients (or “carriers of memory”) -family, friends, acquaintances and readers, which shows the difficulty of a clear reception of the artist. An important point of consideration of this paper are the reflections of the “unwanted memory”in the context of management as a process that can be implemented by individuals (e.g. by family, friends, historians, writers), associations, foundations and public institutions. In the case of Wojaczek, the main guardian of the memory is the Mikołowski Institute, located in the poet’s hometown, which takes large-scale actions to protect the tangible and intangible heritage of the artist and promote his work nationwide.

Starting from the diagnosis of Walter Benjamin, who first noticed the relationship between allegory and melancholy, contributing significantly to the rehabilitation of this semantic figure, the author of the article draws attention to the imaginary configuration linked to artist’s problems present in the poetry of Charles Baudelaire and Kazimierz Przerwa-Tetmajer. An important part of the configuration is a female statue which is the object of amorous longing of a suffering man. This situation, subjected to allegorical figuration, is the transposition of the complicated relationship artist - art. In the works of both authors, the condition of the artist has been associated with a particular form of solitude, meaning a failure, an injury by the blade of infinity. The perfect shape of the stone statue embodies the idea of absolute beauty. As it is not subject to the process of physical decay, it reflects the metaphysical mystery of eternity, but at the same time it emphasises the mortal nature of human existence and reminds of the inability to achieve the ideal. In this way, it reveals the dual nature of the experience of art which consists of contradictory categories: eternity and impermanence, perfection and earthly failure, blissful pleasure and painful fear, smiles and tears, life and death.

Opis:
The text is devoted to the Polish artist, film director and educator Grzegorz Królikiewicz (1939–2017). In this case study the author undertakes the matter of the whole legacy of the artist pleacing it in the frame of creative personality conception. The leading theoretical concept for the sociological study of the artist’s attitude is artistic mythology. In artistic attitude of Grzegorz Królikiewicz the author percives an innovator of film art, an historiosopher and prophet, a reformer of society, but above all a compassionate persons of a poor, humiliated and lost people. Analyzing the achievements of the artist and pedagogue (PWSFTviT) the autohor is following his works: films, shows, personal testimonies and critical texts writen by director, as well as selected articles from the film studies field. In total there are 8 feature films, 37 documantary films, 21 TV shows, moreover 10 theater plays and 10 books – theoretical studies.
Tekst poświęcony jest polskiemu artyście, reżyserowi filmowemu i pedagogowi, Grzegorzowi Królikiewiczowi (1939–2017). W niniejszym studium przypadku autor podejmuje kwestię całościowej spuścizny twórcy, osadzając ją w ramach koncepcji osobowości twórczej. Wiodącym pojęciem teoretycznym dla socjologicznego studium postawy artysty jest mitologia artystyczna. W postawie twórczej Grzegorza Królikiewicza autor dostrzega innowatora sztuki filmowej, historiozofa i proroka, reformatora społecznego, ale przede wszystkim „człowieka współczującego” ludziom biednym, upokorzonym, przegranym. W analizie dorobku artysty-pedagoga (wykładowcy PWSFTviT) bierze pod uwagę jego dorobek twórczy w postaci filmów i widowisk, osobiste wyznania i teksty krytyczne reżysera, a ponadto wybrane teksty filmoznawcze. Łącznie jest to 8 filmów fabularnych, 37 dokumentów filmowych, 21 spektakli telewizyjnych, ponadto 10 sztuk teatralnych i 10 książek – studiów teoretycznych.
