Andrea Palladio
Cztery księgi o architekturze
sztuka renesansu - Opis:
- Humanism and appropriateness in the Baroque architecture based on the work of Andrea Palladio: The Four Books of Architecture. Andrea Palladio, who was born in the late Renaissance and has been working in mannerism period, influenced Baroque architecture through his works, promoting the ideas of humanism and Vitruvian „decorum”. The Renaissance idea of humanism was based on anthropocentrism coming from Catholic theology and the nature being perceived as the God’s masterpiece. Palladio’s book is influenced by those ideas not only in its subject matter, but also in the construction of the work itself. The aim of publishing the book was to serve the people, to use his knowledge to improve a human being. Following the rules of appropriateness Palladio builds his treatise using modules: the same module which was a standard in Vitruvian work. All the parts of the book are like modules in the architecture: small paragraphs on details build larger chapters on types of buildings, chapters are short and clear – in order to be easily understood. Humanism and appropriateness in Palladio’s book is contrasted with modernist architecture, the same in our time as in the past. He disapproves of certain manneristic solutions in architecture, where a building is made not for human improvement but to make the architecture an end in itself or merely to break the rules. Treating the human being as the main God’s creation on earth Palladio puts forward the idea of appropriateness of the facility and form. All human works must contain utility and aesthetics, because both these qualities are connected and cannot be separated.
