- Sixty persons with Trichocephalus infection were examined at the Consulting Unit of Infectious and Parasitologic Intestinal Diseases. The most common symptoms were: abdominal pains, general weakness, nausea, headaches, ptyalism, less common ones: anal pruritus, loss of appetite, prungmous skin efflorescences, loss of weight and vomiting. In most patients the stools were 1 per 24 hours, formed, without mucus and blood admixture. Palpation showed the sigmoid and coecum to be normal, in a small percentage of cases-tender and contracted. Sigmoidoscopic examination was performed in 52 patients, follow-up examination after successful treatment - in 32 cases. Sigmoidoscopic picture mostly showed congestion, obliteration of vascular pattern and softening of the mucous membrane, less common findings being vascular injection, dullness, mucous exudate, presence of enlarged lymphatic nodules and tendency to bleeding. No case showed petechiae and tendency to defects. Follow-up examinations mostly revealed the presence of normal mucous membrane.
