Monitoring and Evaluation in the Research on Human Rights Awareness in Schools The awareness of human rights in Poland leaves a lot to be desired. Poland’s international obligations concerning human rights education should be subject to control. In this connection, monitoring and evaluation could prove very helpful. Within the last twenty years, monitoring has been used many times when rasing the issue of human rights with regard to various fields of life in Poland. At the same time, evaluation has been neglected as a form of control allowing to asses the standards of human rights protection in the country.

The authors focus on the issues concerning the human rights education, in particular concerning the rights of the parties in the criminal proceedings. It involves also the questions of the obligations and the manner in which the suspects are presented with the letter of rights. These aspects are shown also from the European law perspective. It indicates the shortcomings in the legal education in the above mentioned area.
W artykule poruszone zostały zagadnienia związane z edukacją w zakresie praw obowiązujących w postępowaniu karnym, jako jednym z aspektów edukacji o prawach człowieka. Omówione zostały kwestie dotyczące obowiązku i sposobu informowania podejrzanych i oskarżonych o ich prawach, z naciskiem na regulacje europejskie mające za przedmiot wskazaną problematykę. Publikacja ukazuje braki w edukacji prawniczej w tym zakresie.

The paper justifies the thesis which proclaims that divisions between people, nations and cultures which are currently existing in the modern world cannot exclude the possibility of searching for universal values and solidarity-building communities which implement them. A significant role among these values is played by both dignity and human rights, which are the foundations of freedom, justice and world peace. Since these values are universal, inherent and result from the nature of humanity, all members of the 'human family' are entitled to them. Due to the above-mentioned features, human dignity and rights can constitute an important element of pedagogy and international education, which has been promoted and developed for many years notably by Professor Jerzy Nikitorowicz and his co-workers. It overcomes alienation and mistrust, as well as is conducive to educate for negotiations, dialogue, coexistence and tolerance - values and attitudes essential in culturally diversified societies. According to the author of the paper, the aforementioned education may serve internalization of common ethical and social values and development of creative aims in life. It may also contribute to better understanding of the complex and dynamic phenomena and processes of the early twenty first century as well as the agreement for possible expansion of the area of freedom, safety and justice postulated by the European Union.

This article investigates children’s rights to safety under international law—identity and family rights, the right to be heard, the right to be free from discrimination, and other civil, political, economic, social, and cultural rights—and consider the ways in which those rights are embedded in children’s literature in Poland, such as: Moje prawa – ważna sprawa by Piatkowska, Masz prawo by Kasdepke, Mam prawo i nie waham się go użyć by Olech and Bak, Masz prawa, człowieku by Wegrzecka and Zabielska-Stadnik and other picture books for youngest readers. Reviewing more than twenty-some children’s books (Janusz Korczak and another very best children’s authors), author of this article explores the role of children’s literature in disseminating human rights norms and education for safety. According to the author, if young children are supported to understand and celebrate concepts of truth, fairness and freedom and social skills in the area of security – especially through narratives – they are better equipped to recognize and challenge perils and consequently – children exhibit greater self-esteem and respect for the rights of others.

Po II wojnie światowej trzy kraje Ameryki Łacińskiej: Argentyna, Brazylia i Chile wybrały odmienne rozwiązania w swojej polityce wobec szkolnictwa wyższego. Każdy z tych krajów uznał, że wyższe wykształcenie obywateli jest warunkiem rozwoju ekonomicznego, społecznego i politycznego, ale ze względu na historię zastosowały różne metody wspierania dostępu do wykształcenia. Powiązanie wykształcenia z polityką państwa jest o tyle ważne, że dostęp do uczelni traktowany jest jako realizacja jednego z podstawowych praw człowieka – prawa dostępu do edukacji. Zgodnie z Powszechną Deklaracją Praw Człowieka jest to warunek pełnego rozwoju osoby ludzkiej.
Since the World War II three Latin American states: Argentina, Brazil, and Chile have been using three different approaches to their higher education policy. Although each of these states declared that higher education was fundamental for their economic, social, and political progress, but due to historical differences these states used different means of supporting access to colleges and universities. The connection between higher education and government policy has been so important because education is considered to be one of the most fundamental human rights. The UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights points out that education is necessary for free development of human personality.

The author of the paper shows how one may reflect on the essence of human rights, through the lens of reporters’ stories, including in particular Ben Rawlence’s book City of Thorns: Nine Lives in the World’s Largest Refugee Camp. The paper encourages one to listen to the voice of refugees and to develop an in-terest in their lives in order to understand how they define their rights, what they derive them from, and how they judge their observance by the interna-tional community. In fact, these deliberations are connected with a problem which is important for contemporary education, namely how to shape a genu-inely humanistic attitude among young Poles towards people from different cultures, who are additionally forced to leave their homes.

Przedmiotem opracowania jest problematyka potrzeby kreowania kultury w cyberprzestrzeni. Cyberprzestrzeń otwiera przed człowiekiem wiele nowych możliwości, które ułatwiają codzienne życie, a także wspiera funkcjonowanie społeczeństwa. Celem pracy jest ukazanie wpływu cyberprzestrzeni na prawa człowieka, ich spostrzeganie, respektowanie, ale też na nowe zagrożenia ich łamania. Poza rozważaniami wstępnymi i wyjaśnieniem znaczenia podstawowych pojęć, omówione zostały dwa przykłady łamania praw człowieka i możliwego przeciwdziałania naruszeniom prawa do zdrowia i wolności słowa. Wnioskiem wynikającym z niniejszego badania jest przekonanie o tym, że tradycyjne środki, tj. ograniczenia ustawowe oraz mechanizmy monitorowania są niewystarczające. Konieczne jest podjęcie szerokiej kampanii edukacyjnej nakierowanej na promowanie zasad dobrego korzystania z dobrodziejstwa, jakim jest cyberprzestrzeń. Efektem tych działań będzie tworząca się cyberkultura.
The subject of the study is the issue of the need to create culture in cyberspace. The cyberspace opens many opportunities for people which facilitate everyday life and also supports the functioning of the society. The aim of this studies is to show the impact of cyberspace on human rights, their perception, respect, but also on the new possibilities of breaking them. Apart from preliminary considerations and the explanation of the importance of basic concepts, two examples of violations and possible counteracting violations of human rights (the right to health and freedom of speech) have been discussed. The conclusion of this study is the belief that traditional measures, i.e. statutory restrictions and monitoring mechanisms, are insufficient. It is necessary to undertake a broad educational campaign aimed at promoting the principles of good use of the benefits of cyberspace. The result of these activities will be the emerging cyberculture.

Kultura – Społeczeństwo – Edukacja nr 2(14) 2018, Poznań 2018, pp. 119–126, Adam Mickiewicz University Press. ISSN 2300-0422. DOI 10.14746/kse.2018.14.10. This paper concerns the place and meaning of a new category of children’s rights, which also finds its place in the area of interest of academic didactics. The current approach to human rights in schooling is basically normative, thus, the present academic didactics is challenged to prepare students of education – and teaching – related faculties to confront the issues in the field of children’s rights at work in a professional manner. The paper illustrates an author’s concept of didactics in terms of education to children’s rights at higher schools which was elaborated based of the research on the didactic aspects of children’s rights education for teachers and educationists on the academic level. The following issues were put in question and served as a basis for specific approaches to academic didactics in terms of education on children’s rights: an essence and need for inclusion of content related to children’s rights in academic learning practice, didactic tools at teacher’s disposal and their role in education for children’s rights. On the one hand, the paper presents a discussion on theprofessional preparation of teachers and educationists to face challenges related to protection and promotion of children’s rights within educational environments. On the other hand, it includes an attempt to merge the discrepancy between theory and practice in this field.

SHOCK, as a recurring category that has been present for many years in the discourse on the right of the child/human to freedom from all forms of violence, becomes the focal point around which the considerations of this article are focused. The inspiration for the use of the shock category in education was the process of studying Anton Siemionowicz Makarenko’s Pedagogical Poemate and the analysis of the educational system he created along practical directives for parenting and its pedagogical implications. In the text, a fundamental question is raised about how Makarenko used SHOCK as a tool in the educational process? The text presents an analysis of the SHOCK category based on the behavior of violence against a child and analyzes their pedagogical implications.
