Opis:
The article is dedicated to Haiku-images, the last poetic work of Stanisław Grochowiak. The author attempts to show how difficult it is to read oriental type of poetry, even if we know its structure and philosophical base. The only thing that we can do is to find common places between haiku and European tradition. The author points to grotesque, surrealism, imagism and magic realism. There are similarities between Grochowiak’s last poetic work and Jacek Yerka’s magic realism in painting. This leads to conclusion that Haiku-images is still an im-portant poetic voice concerning reality and world we live in.

Opis:
This paper – presenting a close reading of Stanisław Grochowiak’s poem Posłańcy [The Messengers] – proposes reflections on the “time of the poem”. It deals with the issue of experiencing different temporalities while reading (when and where you are while experiencing written words; what is the relationship between the reader's "real" and "fictional" – immersed in the process of reading – lives), and proposes a depiction of pace moderations in the analyzed work – of its own, differential dynamics. The problem of time and velocity is the starting point for a hermeneutic interpretation, or rather hermeneutic exercises (inspired by Raymond Queneau's Exercises in Style): a conceptual, anthropological and semiotic reading experiment carried out on Grochowiak's poem. This essay is an attempt to pave a few paths for understanding The Messengers and their messages. Following in the footsteps of the title characters (with the help of associations and seemingly trivial observations) becomes a cognitive and imaginative adventure, a revolve around an ineffable, dark mystery of the poem (perhaps of all poems and their messengers).

an interpretation of two stories of S. Grochowiak
Opis:
The Wailing Women by Stanisław Grochowiak is a unique collection of stories. Critics have accused the author of not avoiding blasphemy, even of falling into heresy. Taking into consideration two stories (The Wailing Women and The Commandant’s Wife), an attempt is made to prove that such understanding of Grochowiak is unjust to the author. The Wailing Women is not – as it would be said by Jan Lenart – an anti-Christian story. Pędziński’s opinion is more accurate because he sees in Grochowiak a seeking Christian. If characters in Grochowiak’s stories sin, their sins are ignorance and curiosity. They seek answers to questions regarding sacrum sphere from the profanum standpoint. Even if they are given answers, they are unable to comprehend them. Nonetheless they remain and still seek. The characters are not spared by fate and the author often leaves them at the crossroads, just before the soon-to-come disaster. There are numerous concealments, hidden symbols, pre-Christian deities, conversations with God, the Devil and Christ in Grochowiak’s stories. Yet, the stories are not blasphemous. They try to get some answers to questions such as ‘Where do we live?’ or ‘Why does our life look like this and not differently?’They are an attempt to understand God from the standpoint of man.

Opis:
The article raises the subject of female motive in Stanisław Grochowiak’s poetry. Female element in the work of the representative of 56 generation is marked positively – in contrast to masculine one. The poet’s high voluating of woman is closely connected with the war escalation in 20th century. According to Grochowiak, it proclaims that civilisation based on patriarchal system sufferd its defeat. The only hope for humanity resugrence is just related to a woman. The author says that she is the host of such values as love and wisedom – and her fertility and protectiveness are opposite to the death. The crisis of European civilisation caused by two world wars has its overtone in philosophic idea of Erich Fromm. He abstracted two tendencies in human’s behaviour: biophilotic - - directed at life and necrophilotic – aimed at death. Fromm similarly to Grochowiak found the reason for the twentieth-century hecatomb in human nature, in this what is typical of man and patriarchal society. Both Grochowiak’s and Fromm’s diagnoses are paralel but at the same time independent, that is why we can say that they are complementary to each other in seeking the explanation for traumatic war events and the hope for human’s future.

The article is a project of literary classes addressed to high school students, devoted to discussing the theme of the Seine drowned woman, a mysterious figure found at the end of the 19th century, whose death mask – due to a delicate smile – became popular all over the world. The story of an anonymous teenager has inspired writers, poets, playwrights, philosophers, painters, architects, and journalists of various times and spaces. She fascinated, among others, Stanisław Grochowiak, Mela Muter, Antoni Kaminski and Aleksander Gierymski, as well as the literary scholar Stanisław Rosiek, who in his article, writing about the importance of death masks in the culture of the nineteenth century, also referred to the figure of the girl.
