    Opis:
    The life of Stanisław Kostka Potocki (1755-1821), one of the luminaries of the Polish Enlightenment, a long-time politician and public official, as well as a scholar and patron of the arts, has attracted the attention of many scholars. The first biographical essays on Potocki were provided by Stanisław Staszic and Franciszek Maksymilian Sobieszczański still in the nineteenth century, followed by Stanisław Krzemiński in the 1900s. These texts focused especially on Potocki's contribution to the enlightened reform of Polish education during the Duchy of Warsaw and Congress Poland. However, it was only after the Second World War that Potocki's life became the focus of more wide-ranging and intense research, spearheaded by such scholars as Emil Kipa or Juliusz Starzyński and Stanisław Lorentz. Paradoxically, it was the communist fascination with the Enlightenment that fostered the growing academic interest in Potocki's manifold contributions to art, archaeology, literature, as well as the state administration of religion. Nowadays, the bibliography of his life is quite rich and clearly dominated by art-historical and literary studies, in recent years promoted by the Museum of King Jan III's Palace at Wilanów. However, there is still no book-size biography presenting an analysis that would go beyond mere biographical entries.

    Artykuł dotyczy kwestii reprezentacji biografii w sztukach teatralnych, w których bieg życia jednostki stanowi podstawę zabiegów re-kreacyjnych. Wśród najnowszych przedstawień inspirowanych materiałem biograficznym, często autotematycznych, które oscylują między fikcją i faktografią, wyróżniono typ określony jako biografia performowana. Jako reprezentatywny przykład takiego przedstawienia wybrano spektakl Wielce Szanowna Pani (reż. Martyna Peszko, Teatr Polski w Bydgoszczy, 2020) inspirowany biografią aktorki Haliny Mikołajskiej i utrzymany w poetyce gry (z) archiwum. Sceniczne performowanie biografii Mikołajskiej odbywa się dzięki wykorzystaniu dokumentacji pisanej i filmowej, utworów literackich, autotematycznych wypowiedzi i zachowań wykonawczyń oraz interakcji z publicznością. Dzięki temu fragmentaryczna re-kreacja jednostkowej biografii splata się z osobistymi i ogólnymi refleksjami o etycznych i emocjonalnych wyzwaniach wpisanych w zawód artystki scenicznej. Podstawą analizy przedstawienia jest pojęcie reenactment wprowadzone przez Rebekkę Schneider na określenie tych praktyk przywołania przeszłości, w których afektywny akt rekonstrukcji historii jest jednocześnie kreacją osobistej wypowiedzi wykonawców.
    This article deals with the issue of representation of biography in theater plays in which an individual life course forms a basis for the re-creational efforts. Among the latest often autothematic performances inspired by biographical material and oscillating between fact and fiction, a form known as performed biography can be identified. This article presents the play Wielce Szanowna Pani (Dear Madam, dir. Martyna Peszko, Polish Theater in Bydgoszcz, 2020), inspired by the biography of actress Halina Mikołajska and set in the poetics of playing (with) the archive, as representative of such a performance. The performance of Mikołajska’s biography onstage draws upon the use of archival documents and film, literary works, and the performers’ autothematic utterances and actions, as well as audience interaction. In this way, the fragmentary re-creation of an individual biography and personal and general reflections on the ethical and emotional challenges faced by a stage artist are intertwined. The analysis of the play centers around the concept of reenactment, introduced by Rebecca Schneider to refer to practices of recalling the past, in which the affective act of reconstructing history is simultaneously a creation of the performers’ personal utterances.

    Autorka porusza problematykę starzenia się skazanego, odsłaniając sens jego dualności: zaawansowanie wiekowe i izolację więzienną. Dyskusje dotyczące prób propagowania rozmytej idei troski o współcześnie funkcjonujących starszych w zakładach karnych budzą niepokój. Celem badań była wizja potrzeb, odpowiadających realnym uwarunkowaniom seniora z perspektywy jego narracji. Przedmiotem eksploracji natomiast było zjawisko specyficznego postrzegania i przeżywania czasu przez osadzonego, w szczególności zdarzeń zwrotnych. Intencją badaczki było wyodrębnienie tego, co było dotychczas niedostrzegalne. Tekst ukazuje analizę biografii osoby, w życiu której pojawiły się momenty kryzysowe, interpretowane poprzez włączenie ich w fabułę historii o życiowych przełomach. Wobec opisanego tła, dodatkową „ramą” doprecyzowującą intencje hermeneuty była zastosowana epifania jako doświadczenie jedyne w sobie, oryginalne, dzielące życie seniora na „przed” i „po”, na „wtedy” i „teraz”.
    In the article, the aspect of condemned ageing, revealing the sense of his duality: his age, prison isolation, has been emphasized. Discussions concerning attempts pushing of fuzzy concern idea for the contemporary olds functioning in penitentiary, inflict anxiety. The vision of necessities, matched with real senior determinants in the perspective of his narration,represents the aim of the study. Subject of the analysis I made senior after life sentence, having ability to function in a prison. However phenomenon of distinct perception and going through the time by improsoned, particularly a life turning points, was a subject of the study. Intention of the researcher was the fact of extracting something, that was unperceivable so far. Text pictures of biography analysis of individual, who faces critical moments in his life, which are being read as including them in the history plot of life’s turning points. Regarding depicted background, additional “framework” clarifying intentions of researcher working in the field of hermeneutics, was epiphany, used as experience one of a kind, genuine, dividing seniors’ life for “before” and “after, for “at the time” and “at present”.

    This essay examines some of the recent tendencies to delegitimize antifascism both as a political phenomenon and as a topic of historical research. In German academia and beyond, this “antiantifascist” current operates according to notions of communist contamination. To counter these narratives, I propose to look at the plurality of antifascism, its various continuities and the personal experiences of its historical agents. In particular, I make my case exploring the transnational biography of the Dutch journalist Nicolaas Rost.
    W artykule analizuję niektóre niedawne próby delegitymizacji antyfaszyzmu zarówno jako zjawiska politycznego, jak i przedmiotu badań historycznych. W niemieckich środowiskach akademickich i poza nimi ten „anty-antyfaszyzm” operuje pojęciami komunistycznego skażenia. Aby przeciwstawić się takim narracjom, proponuję szerszą perspektywę historyczną. Bierze ona pod uwagę wielość antyfaszyzmu, jego różne linie ciągłości i doświadczenia jego historycznych przedstawicieli. W szczególności udowadniam to, badając transnarodową biografię holenderskiego dziennikarza Nicolaasa Rosta.
    Dieser Essay nimmt einige Versuche aus der jüngsten Zeit in den Blick, Antifaschismus sowohl als politisches Phänomen als auch als Thema geschichtswissenschaftlicher Forschung zu delegitimieren. An deutschen Universitäten und darüber hinaus bemüht dieser „Anti-Antifaschismus“ die Figur der kommunistischen Kontamination. Um solchen Narrativen entgegenzutreten, schlage ich eine breitere historische Perspektive vor. Diese soll die Pluralität des Antifaschismus, seine verschiedenen Kontinuitätslinien und die Erfahrungen seiner historischen Träger/innen in den Blick nehmen. Plastisch mache ich dieses Argument an der transnationalen Biografie des niederländischen Journalisten Nicolaas Rost.

    W niniejszym artykule poddałam analizie losy bohaterów filmu pod tytułem Cud purymowy. Celem prowadzonych analiz jest rekonstrukcja losów bohaterów tego filmu, a także ukazanie przemiany, jaka dokonała się w ich życiu. Struktura artykułu składa się z dwóch części – teoretycznej i analitycznej. We wprowadzeniu przedstawiam rys historyczny święta Purim, czyli najważniejszego święta dla przedstawicieli religii mojżeszowej, zwanego żydowskim karnawałem. W części teoretycznej prezentuję zestawienie zagadnień dotyczących wydarzeń przełomowych w życiu człowieka. Następnie wyjaśniam kwestie dotyczące struktur procesowych w ujęciu Fritza Schützego. W części analitycznej przybliżam losy bohaterów filmu Cud purymowy, czyli rodziców (Jana i Jadwigi) oraz ich syna (Henia). Proces odkrywania swojego pochodzenia stanowi wydarzenie przełomowe zarówno dla życia całej rodziny, jak i dla poszczególnych jej członków. Powoduje to zmiany w ich biografii, co wymaga podjęcia pracy biograficznej. Losy bohaterów interpretowane są w odniesieniu do struktur procesowych wyróżnionych przez Fritza Schützego. Symboliczne znaczenie ma sam tytuł filmu, który odnosi się do święta, w trakcie którego dokonała się przemiana bohaterów z katolików w Żydów. Dwukulturowość rodziny ujawnia się nie jednocześnie, lecz linearnie.
    In this article, I analyze the fate of the protagonists of the film titled The Purim Miracle. The purpose of the analysis is to reconstruct the fate of the protagonists, as well as to show the transformations that took place in their lives. The structure of the article consists of two parts: theoretical and analytical. In the introduction, I present a historical outline of Purim, the most important holiday for the representatives of the Mosaic religion, called the Jewish carnival. In the theoretical part, I summarize the issues that relate to landmark events in human life. Then I explain the issues concerning biographical process structures as seen by Fritz Schütze. In the analytical part, I describe the fate of the protagonists of The Purim Miracle, namely the parents (Jan and Jadwiga) and their son (Henio). The process of discovering one’s origins is a watershed event both for the life of the whole family and for individual family members. It causes changes in their biography, which requires biographical work. The fate of the characters is interpreted in relation to the process structures distinguished by Fritz Schütze. The title of the film itself is symbolic, as it refers to the holiday during which the transformation of the characters from Catholics to Jews took place. The biculturalism of the family is revealed not simultaneously, but linearly.

    Artykuł poświęcony jest genealogicznemu śledztwu, jakie podejmuje Anatol Stern, próbując zrekonstruować pochodzenie Guillaume’a Apollinaire’a. Efektem badawczego postępowania staje się książka zatytułowana Dom Apollinaire’a. Rzecz o polskości i rodzinie poety, opublikowana w 1973 roku, będąca zbiorem szkiców, które ukazywały się wcześniej w krajowych i europejskich czasopismach, przygotowana do druku już po śmierci pisarza przez jego żonę, Alicję Stern. Przedmiot zawartych w artykule analiz stanowią nie tylko teksty opublikowane, ale przede wszystkim obszerny archiwalny zbiór materiałów poświęconych Apollinaire’owi, gromadzonych przez Sterna, a także różne formy literackich praktyk, w ramach których Stern dokonywał artystycznych przetworzeń biograficznych rozpoznań dotyczących autora Alkoholi. Perspektywę teoretyczną dla ujęcia szerokiego spektrum tekstów auto/biograficznych wyznacza pojęcie life writing. W toku analiz na plan pierwszy wysuwa się wartość komentarza Alicji Stern, zawartego w jej niepublikowanym pamiętniku, sugerującego możliwość „kryptoautobiograficznej” lektury niektórych poświęconych Apollinaire’owi tekstów Sterna. Taka linia interpretacji – eksponująca sytuację „obcego” – otwiera możliwość poszukiwania „marańskiego podmiotu” i miejsc, w których ujawnia się przemilczana przez Sterna własna sytuacja „obcego” wraz z różnymi formami maskowania własnej „zakłóconej”, „niestabilnej” tożsamości.
    The article is devoted to a genealogical investigation, undertaken by Anatol Stern, in his attempt to reconstruct the origin story of Guillaume Apollinaire. The effect of his research is a book entitled Dom Apollinaire’a. Rzecz o polskości i rodzinie poety, published in 1973, which is a collection of essays, previously published in Polish and European journals, prepared for publication after the author’s death by his wife, Alicja Stern. The subject of analyses in the paper are not only the published texts but first and foremost an extensive archival collection of materials devoted to Apollinaire, collected by Stern, as well as different forms of literary practices, within which Stern carried out artistic biographical modifications of his findings concerning the author of Alcools. The theoretical perspective adopted for the analysis a wide range of auto/biographical texts here is the concept of life writing. In the course of the study the value of Alicja Stern’s commentary, found in her unpublished memoir, comes centre stage, as it indicates the possibility of a “pseudo-auto-biographical” reading of some of Stern’s texts devoted to Apollinaire. This line of interpretation – exposing the situation of “the other” – opens up the possibility of looking for a ”Maroon-like subject” and places in which Stern’s own situation of “the other” along with various forms of masking his own “interrupted”, “unstable” identity.

    Artykuł omawia najważniejsze uwarunkowania przemian dwudziestowiecznej biografistyki, stawiając sobie za cel ukazanie ograniczeń i nowych ścieżek biografii, w odniesieniu do trzech obszarów: praktyki literackiej (na przykładzie Virginii Woolf i Juliana Barnesa), dydaktyki akademickiej (na przykładzie doświadczenia autorki tekstu) oraz jednej z klasycznych prac z zakresu biografistyki w literaturoznawstwie polskim: Zagadnień biografii literackiej Marii Jasińskiej z 1970 roku, która bliska jest refleksjom Philippe’a Lejeune’a na temat biograficznego paktu referencjalnego. Biografistyka, będąca od początku swojej historii dyskursem hybrydycznym, łączącym literackość, dokumentarność i (popularno)naukowość, w wieku dwudziestym z jednej strony rozwinęła się na skalę dotąd nieznaną (tendencja ta jest podtrzymana i w obiegu akademickim i popularnonaukowym; powstał też odrębny gatunek reportażu biograficznego), z drugiej strony stała się przedmiotem zainteresowania modernistycznych i postmodernistycznych twórców, traktujących konwencje i tradycje biografii jako asumpt do pytań o jej filozoficzne inklinacje.
    The article discusses the most important factors behind transformations in the twentieth-century study of biography, setting as its aim demonstrating the limits on and new paths for biography in relation to three areas: literary practice (working with the examples of Virginia Woolf and Julian Barnes), university pedagogical practice (using the example of the author’s experience), and one of the classic works in the area of the study of biography in Polish literary studies: Maria Jasińska’s 1970 book Zagadnienia biografii literackiej (Problems in Literary Biography), which touches on common ground with the work of Philipp Lejeuene on the biographical “referential pact.” Biography, having been since its inception a hybrid discourse, joining together literariness, a documentary aspect, and a (popular-) scholarly aspect developed in the twentieth century on an unprecedented scale (this tendency is sustained in academic and popular-scientific discourse; the separate genre of biographical reportage also emerged), while the topic also became a focus of interest among modern and postmodern writers who treated the conventions and traditions of biography as pretexts for questions about its philosophical direction.
