The present article examines how Antonella Cilento reinvents the myth of Philomela in Lisario o il piacere infinito delle donne, Premio Strega finalist (2014) and winner of Boccaccio Prize (2014). After evidencing the narrative aspects of Ovid’s myth – the rape; the cutting out of the tongue depriving the raped woman of her voice; the expression of the violence she experienced – the analysis focuses on how Cilento overturns the myth by interweaving Ovid’s tale with the topos of Sleeping Beauty. Despite her silencing, Lisario discovers and appropriates the pleasure that can be drawn from her body. The paper concludes by considering how the protagonist finds new and non violent ways to express herself and relate to future generations of women.

The present article sheds light on the development of the model of femininity within the unification process of the new, united Italian state. In the new socio-economic reality the “women’s question” acquired fundamental significance, initiating debate on the concept of the “New Woman”, in other words a new feminine model to be redefined. An especially important aspect of the phenomenon described, is the contribution of women which, as demonstrated here using the example of the Milanese writer Anna Zuccari Radius, pseudonym Neera, provides an alternative perspective to the concepts propagated by the official culture.

In the early Imperial age, a feature, which had already been seen in the period of civil wars, even though sporadically and disapproved, took hold and became almost commonplace: wives increasingly accompanied their husbands who were sent to the provinces on military and civilian duties. Already with Augustus, but especially with the first and second generation Princes, it was established the custom that the women of the domus imperialis accompanied their husbands engaged away from Rome: the image of a couple united in sharing the daily toils of military life as well as the honours of public ceremonies was functional to prestige and the idea of a potential imperial succession. Even some Governors’ wives moved to the provinces but not all of them chose to live in the shadows, some entering forbidden areas and subsequently being involved in trial for concussio. The custom of accompanying their husbands inevitably spread also among wives of ordinary soldiers. Despite attempts to revive the old bans, the mos maiorum (Tac. Ann. 3, 33, 4), strenuously defended by the conservatives in tones reminiscent of Cato the Elder, was superseded by the new behaviours promoted by the members of the domus Augusta.

Nel panorama della letteratura italiana contemporanea Carmine Abate (1954), occupa una posizione rilevante. Nel 2012 l’autore è stato vincitore del prestigioso Premio Campiello, assegnatogli per il romanzo La collina del vento (2012). Abate, di origine arbëresh, cioè italo-albanese, viene al mondo in un villaggio calabrese chiamato Carfizzi, in cui vivono tuttora i discendenti degli albanesi fuggiti in Italia dall’oppressione turca nei tempi medievali. A quanto pare si potrebbe azzardare l’ipotesi che il carattere ibrido della cultura in cui cresce, fortemente influenzata dalle radici albanesi, faccia sì che la sua produzione sia tematicamente compatta. In essa campeggiano alcune strutture utilizzate in modo ripetitivo che la rendono omogenea: l’emigrazione, il problema dell’identità, la questione della lingua, il viaggio, l’immagine del paese albanese ancorato fra presente e passato. Tra altri motivi significativi che caratterizzano la sua scrittura occorre non dimenticare quello del femminile. Per averne la visione più ricca possibile si è scelto di analizzarlo nell’ottica dell’atteggiamento di varie protagoniste abatiane verso la cultura, in quanto proprio il concetto di cultura costituisce il perno della poetica dell’autore. Esso, di carattere pluridimensionale, si dimostra un mezzo metodologico adatto per scorgere il quadro del femminile delineato nelle opere abatiane.

The aim of the article is to analyze the meanings of the voice in the novel mentioned in the title in relation to Adriana Cavarero’s thought. Following the presentation of the work, the article examines two different manifestations of the voice in the text: the singing voice and the discursive voice. The former confirms the patriarchal association of women with the body but sometimes it also appears as a space of freedom from oppression. The latter, which is denied to the protagonist, symbolizes women’s exclusion from logos.

Starting from the myth, culture and society have always opposed the construction of a matriarchal line and a genealogy of women. The paper address the generational relationships between women, and focuses on three novel Italian Novecento women writers: Susanna Tamaro, Michela Murgia and Milena Agus. Tamaro, Murgia and Agus conform an atypical female genealogy in their novels, and propose new models of identity in opposition to the patriarchal system.

Opis:
The episode of the division of Jesus’ garments (Gv 19,23-24g) and the scene of the “testament from the cross” (Jn 19:24h-27) is strongly contrasted by the correlative and antithetical particles μέν-οὖν-δέ (Jn 19:24h.25a). It suggests, among other things, to see precisely four women below the cross of Christ (and the disciple whom Jesus loved). Other arguments also lead to this conjecture. The importance concerning the number of Jesus’ followers, accompanying their dying Master, is connected with a rabbinical tradition that says: to deserve the title of a true and authentic master it was necessary to have at least five disciples around him. The inclusion of the whole Fourth Gospel, obtained thanks to the pericopes Jn 1:35-51 and Jn 19:24h-27, where five disciples appear – first called by Jesus to follow him, then present at the foot of the cross – leads to the conclusion that Jesus, from the beginning of his activity on earth until his last breath, appears as the true and authentic Master, always ac-companied by his disciples, whose number was incessantly sufficient to ascribe to Jesus the title of the Rabbi.

Il saggio analizza la presenza delle sepolture femminili nella basilica di Sant’Antonio a Padova, nel corso del XIV secolo, in parte pervenute e in parte documentate nelle fonti. Durante il Trecento infatti, le tombe femminili sono in numero nettamente superiore, circa venti, rispetto a quelle dei secoli successivi e appartengono a famiglie di rango elevato. La numerosità di tali sepolture è da mettere in relazione alla signoria dei Carraresi, che resero la città, nel Trecento, un centro, nell’ambito dell’Italia padana, di importanza politica e altissimo profilo culturale.
The essay analyzes women’s burials present in the basilica of St. Anthony in Padua during the fourteenth century. Some of them have survived and some are just documented in historical sources. During the fourteenth century, there were clearly more female tombs (about twenty), than in the following centuries, and they belonged to families of high status. The significant number of such burials shall be put in relation with the lordship of the Carraresi, thanks to whom the city, in the fourteenth century, had a strong political importance and a very high cultural profile within the Po Valley region of the peninsula.

A silent language: imagining the dialect in Ferrante’s novels – Elena Ferrante’s novels are not examples of plurilingual literature; in fact they do not mix diatopic varieties of Italian and dialect, even if, above all in the stories in My Brilliant Friend, Italian readers can perceive the sounds of the Neapolitan dialect. To achieve this effect, Elena Ferrante uses metalinguistic glosses, which alert the reader when the characters pass from one language to another. The essay examines the features of the glosses, which are cleverly inserted, do not hinder reading, and manage to transport the reader to among the houses and the sounds of Naples.

Sibilla Aleramo (1876–1960) and Emilia Szenwicowa (1889–1972), Polish journalist and translator, met in 1927: the Italian writer hoped that Szenwicowa would translate her novel Amo dunque sono into Polish. A year later, Aleramo spent a few weeks on vacation in Positano, in the villa of the Szenwic family, where she often returned until the outbreak of World War II. In 1931, thanks to Szenwicowa’s mediation, Aleramo undertook the translation of Dom kobiet, a theatrical piece by Zofia Nałkowska, into French and literal Italian, using mediatory versions. A collection of Aleramo’s letters has recently been found in the family archive of the Polish journalist’s heirs. The letters, published for the first time in the present paper in fragments, testify to the profound friendship that united the two intellectuals, and document, amongst other things, their various collaborative projects concerning the translation of theatre plays from Polish to Italian. The aim of the paper is to analyse the moments of correspondence between Aleramo and Szenwicowa that refer to the theatre.
Sibilla Aleramo (1876–1960) ed Emilia Szenwicowa (1889–1972), giornalista e traduttrice polacca, si conobbero nel 1927: la scrittrice italiana sperava che Szenwicowa avrebbe tradotto in italiano il suo romanzo Amo dunque sono. Un anno dopo, Aleramo trascorse qualche settimana di vacanza a Positano, nella villa della famiglia Szenwic, dove ritornò spesso fino allo scoppio della seconda guerra mondiale. Nel 1931, grazie alla mediazione di Emilia, Aleramo intraprese la traduzione di Dom kobiet, una pièce teatrale di Zofia Nałkowska, basandosi su traduzioni mediatorie in italiano e francese. Nell’archivio familiare degli eredi della giornalista polacca è stata recentemente ritrovata una collezione di missive aleramiane. Le lettere, per la prima volta pubblicate in frammenti nel presente saggio, testimoniano la profonda amicizia che univa le due intellettuali e documentano, tra l’altro, diversi progetti di collaborazione inerenti la traduzione di testi teatrali dal polacco in italiano. I momenti della corrispondenza tra Aleramo e Szenwicowa che si riferiscono al teatro vengono sottoposti nel presente intervento ad un’analisi approfondita

Critical studies on the theatre from the 19 th and 20 th centuries, even founding ones, are limited as they do not include a gender category – a paradox in a space where bodies are central. The actresses, in fact, give life to different stories, which allow for the enrichment of historical-critical reconstructions. Given the vastness of the topic, this article aims to identify some fundamental turning points. We begin with the legacy of the 19 th century, rich from both a linguistic and a historical-critical viewpoint; the article moves on to the post-Duse period, which saw, on the one hand, the birth of the actor-artist’s Italian specificity and, on the other, the crisis of female leaders of theatre companies; then, the article discusses the birth of Italian theatre direction in the period following the Second World War and the reaction of a few actresses, like Anna Magnani, who aimed to re-create the reality that was to be reclaimed by the history of theatre. Finally, the article explores the breakdown caused by the New Theatre and even calls into discussion the word for “actress”, with overlaps in the fields of theatre direction and dramaturgy.
Gli studi critici sul teatro dell’ 800 e del 900, anche quelli fondativi, hanno il limite di non usare la categoria di gender: un paradosso in un ambito in cui il corpo è centrale. Le attrici infatti danno vita a storie diverse, che permettono di arricchire le ricostruzioni storico-critiche. Data l’ampiezza del tema, il saggio punta sull’individuazione di alcuni snodi fondamentali: il lascito ottocentesco, ricco sia dal punto di vista del linguaggio che da quello socio-culturale; il dopo-Duse, che registra da un lato la nascita della specificità italiana dell’attore-artista e, dall’altro, la crisi del capocomicato femminile; la nascita della regia italiana nel secondo dopoguerra e la reazione di alcune attrici che puntano sulla ri-creazione della realtà, come Anna Magnani, che va riconquistata alla storia del teatro; la rottura operata dal Nuovo teatro e la messa in discussione sin della parola attrice, con sconfinamenti nei campi della regia e della drammaturgia.

Questo articolo si occupa di come comprendere il problema dell'ordinazione nella dottrina protestante. Presenta inoltre la posizione del Magistero della Chiesa cattolica in risposta alla concezione protestante. In primo luogo, sono stati presentati l'atteggiamento e la pratica dei protestanti nei confronti dell'ordinazione delle donne, con particolare attenzione alle opinioni di Martin Lutero su questo tema. La seconda parte ha esaminato la situazione delle donne nella Chiesa cattolica sulla base dei documenti preparatori del Concilio Vaticano II e delle successive conversazioni e opere conciliari. La terza parte contiene le discussioni teologiche del periodo post-conciliare all'interno della Chiesa cattolica. Sono stati descritti i movimenti all'interno della Chiesa che sostengono l'ordinazione femminile. Questa parte si conclude con la presentazione degli atteggiamenti di alcuni teologi della Chiesa cattolica. Il dialogo ecumenico sottolinea la pratica secolare di non permettere alle donne di accedere al sacerdozio. Martin Lutero era d'accordo con questa pratica e questo approccio è utilizzato e mantenuto anche nell'insegnamento della Chiesa ortodossa.
This article raises the problem of the understanding of the ordination of women in the Protestant doctrine and the position of the Magisterium of the Catholic Church as a response to the Protestant concept. In the first part, the position and practice of Protestants towards the ordination of women are discussed, with a particular focus on the view of Martin Luther on this issue. The second part reveals the situation of women in the Catholic Church in the light of the preparatory documents as well as discussions and conciliar works of the Second Vatican Council. The third part presents conclusions of post-conciliar theological discussions regarding women’s ordination and analyzes the intra-ecclesial movements that advocate for it. Finally, it expounds the positions of some (prominent) theologians of the Catholic Church. The ecumenical dialogue emphasizes the centuries-old practice of not allowing women to be ordained. This practice was acquired by Martin Luther and is also present in the teaching of the Orthodox Church.
