    The aim of this article is to illustrate the complexities of relations at the level of verbal communication between two separate environments: patients and physicians. Many terms used while addressing physicians are related to and depend on their professional activities. The way of expressing thoughts and the choice of lexical items reflect emotional states and reactions to certain facts and standards of behaviour. We know of many possible linguistic reactions to specific real-life situations and the choice of lexical items depends upon both sociolinguistic factors (level of education of the speaker, place of residence, means of communications) as well as morphological factors (morphological processes) and semantic factors (using metaphoric expressions).

    Boccaccio’s Decameron is, as we know, the supreme achievement of the medieval narratio brevis. The art of speaking and, in general, of the proficient use of words, is what distinguishes the “gentile brigata” of ten young men and women who articulate and advance the new ars narrandi. Its role is crucial in many of the novellas in The Decameron: thanks to their capacity to persuade, or rather to manipulate their listeners verbally, many of its male and female protagonists manage to avoid dangers and unpleasant situations, or to get what they want: love, money, or other advantages. Particularly two of the male protagonists, ser Ciappelletto and frate Cipolla, excel others in verbal fraud and mockery. The anonymous protagonist of the third novella of the Third Day is neither as famous nor as examined by critics, even though she is very clever in her rhetorical and theatrical skills. The purpose of this essay is to analyse the strategies of verbal and emotional manipulation which lead her to seduce a “valoroso uomo di mezza età” with the involuntary help of the simple-minded and credulous friar.

    Antonio Tabucchi is one of the most representative authors of contemporary Italian literature. His output includes a short story for children entitled Isabella e l’ombra, which was illustrated by Isabella Staino and to whom the story is dedicated. Instead of relying on words to write short texts at school, the main character, a little girl named Isabella, uses colours and explains their chromatic compositions to the teacher. Undoubtedly, the writer’s pedagogical intention behind this story is for young readers to understand that literary expression does not occur only by writing but also through images and colours that can transmit as many emotions as written texts do. Moreover, the text, which can be considered a Bildungsroman for children, touches upon some topics visible in other novels and stories by Tabucchi. This paper aims to analyse the way in which Tabucchi shares some of his existential ideas with a non-adult audience, particularly regarding the relationship between various forms of language, the symbolism of colours, the power of visual communication, and the importance of such feelings as sadness, affection, and generosity.
    Antonio Tabucchi è uno degli scrittori più rappresentativi della letteratura italiana contemporanea. Nella sua vasta produzione letteraria trova posto anche un breve racconto per l’infanzia, Isabella e l’ombra, accompagnato da una serie di illustrazioni eseguite dalla pittrice Isabella Staino, a cui il racconto è dedicato. La protagonista, una bambina di nome Isabella, invece di usare le parole per scrivere i propri pensierini a scuola usa i colori, in tutte le loro diverse tonalità, e spiega le sue composizioni cromatiche ad una maestra perplessa ed impressionata. È indubbio che con questo racconto lo scrittore intenda insegnare ai suoi piccoli lettori che l’espressione letteraria non avviene solamente attraverso la scrittura, ma può realizzarsi anche attraverso le immagini e i colori, i quali trasmettono emozioni quanto e forse più di un testo scritto. Inoltre il testo, che può essere definito un romanzo di formazione rivolto ai bambini, tocca tutte le tematiche dei grandi romanzi e racconti tabucchiani. In questo articolo si vuole analizzare il modo in cui Tabucchi intende trasmettere alcune delle sue idee esistenziali ad un pubblico non adulto, in particolar modo in relazione al rapporto tra le varie forme di linguaggio, alla simbologia dei colori, alla potenza della comunicazione visiva e all’importanza di alcuni sentimenti come la tristezza, l’affetto e la generosità.

    This article aims to examine how Italian-language grammar books deal with the morphology of the participio presente (PP), with particular attention to verb forms of the third inflexional paradigm ending in -iente (e.g., conveniente) or that alternate the endings -iente and -ente (e.g., dormiente/dormente). In total, more than 60 grammar books were analysed and divided into three categories: 1) volumes published between the 16th and 19th centuries (it is a diachronic perspective on the issue of the PP); 2) volumes published in the 20th and 21st centuries; 3) grammar books for foreign language learners. The analyses reveal that the authors of the grammar books taken into consideration demonstrate little interest in the morphology of the PP, especially regarding the forms ending in -iente/-ente, which are less prominent over the centuries to give space to issues related to the function of the PP. Grammar books for foreigners are even less attentive, often completely neglecting the PP or providing a summary and incomplete information.
    Il presente articolo si propone di esaminare come le grammatiche della lingua italiana trattano la morfologia del participio presente (PP) con particolare riguardo alle forme verbali del terzo paradigma flessivo che prendono la desinenza -iente (p. es. conveniente) o che alternano le desinenze -iente e -ente (p. es. dormiente/dormente). In totale sono state analizzate più di 60 grammatiche divise in tre categorie: 1) volumi pubblicati tra il Cinque e l’Ottocento: è uno sguardo diacronico sulla questione del PP; 2) volumi pubblicati nei secoli XX e XXI; 3) grammatiche didattiche per stranieri. Dall’analisi risulta che gli autori dei testi grammaticali presi in esame dimostrano poco interesse alla morfologia del PP, soprattutto riguardo alle forme uscenti in -iente/ente, interesse che sembra diminuire addirittura nel corso dei secoli per dare spazio alle questioni relative alla funzione del PP. Le grammatiche didattiche per stranieri sono ancora meno attente, spesso trascurando completamente la questione del PP o fornendo informazioni sommarie e non complete.

    Uno dei principi fondamentali della riforma liturgica promossa dal Concilio Vaticano II fu quello della partecipazione attiva dei fedeli alla celebrazione. Secondo il dettato della Costituzione liturgica Sacrosanctum Concilium questa partecipazione avviene per mezzo dei riti e delle preghiere (cf. SC 48). Ciò ricorda che l’azione rituale si serve di un doppio tipo di linguaggio: quello verbale e quello non verbale. Lo studio della liturgia, di conseguenza, non può essere ridotto alla sola ricerca riguardante i testi usati nella celebrazione bensì, deve comprendere anche lo studio dei riti. Il presente contributo, senza alcuna pretesa di essere esaustivo, intende ad offre alcuni spunti per una lettura ermeneutica della ritualità cristiana, in base all’esempio concreto dell’uso dell’incenso nella liturgia.
    One of the fundamental principles of the liturgical reform promoted by the Second Vat-ican Council was that of the active participation of the faithful in the celebration. According to the liturgical constitution Sacrosanctum Concilium, this participation takes place through the rites and prayers (cf. SC 48). This reminds us that ritual action makes use of a double type of language: both the verbal and the non-verbal one. The study of the liturgy, therefore, cannot be reduced to research only on the texts used in the celebration, but must also include the study of the rites. The present contribution, without any pretension of being exhaustive, intends to offer some hints for a hermeneutic reading of Christian rituality, on the basis of the concrete example of the use of incense in the liturgy.
    Jedną z podstawowych zasad reformy liturgicznej promowanej przez Sobór Watykański II był czynny udział wiernych w celebracji. Zgodnie z konstytucją liturgiczną Sacrosanctum Concilium, uczestnictwo takie dokonuje się poprzez obrzędy i modlitwy (por. KL 48). Przypomina nam to, że działanie rytualne posługuje się podwójnym rodzajem języka: werbalnym i niewerbalnym. Studiowanie liturgii nie może zatem ograniczać się wyłącznie do badania tekstów używanych podczas celebracji, ale musi obejmować także studium obrzędów. Niniejsze opracowanie, nie pretendujące w żadnej mierze do bycia wyczerpującym, ma na celu zaproponowanie pewnych kryteriów hermeneutycznej lektury chrześcijańskiej rytualności, w oparciu o konkretny przykład użycia kadzidła w liturgii.

    This paper presents some results of a comparison of a sample of Italian texts produced by native speakers of Italian with the following: 1) a parallel sample of written productions of native speakers of Polish; 2) a sample of parallel texts produced in Italian by a group of Polish learners of Italian as a foreign language. The way of textualizing the narrative macro-act elicited with a short comic movie of Mr. Bean that was proposed to the informants in the course of an experiment is investigated. The proposed analyses show that texts produced by Italians have textuality definable in terms of nominal style, while Polish texts and Italian texts produced by Polish informants tend toward verbal style. The results obtained are commented in the light of contrastive-typological considerations aimed to place Italian and Polish within the distinction between endo- and exocentric languages.
    Il presente contributo presenta alcuni risultati di una comparazione di un campione di testi italiani, ovvero prodotti da informatori di madrelingua italiana con: 1) da un lato un campione parallelo di produzioni scritte di parlanti nativi del polacco; 2) dall’altro lato un campione di testi paralleli prodotti in italiano da un gruppo di apprendenti di italiano come LS madrelingua polacchi. Viene indagato il modo di testualizzare il macroatto narrativo a partire da un input extralinguistico (breve filmato comico di Mr. Bean) proposto agli informatori nel corso di un esperimento. Dalle analisi proposte emerge che i testi italiani hanno una testualità definibile in termini di stile nominale, mentre i testi polacchi e i testi italiani prodotti dagli informatori polacchi tendono verso lo stile verbale. I risultati ottenuti vengono commentati a partire da una cornice interpretativa costruita attorno alle considerazioni tipologico-contrastive volte a collocare l’italiano e il polacco rispetto alla distinzione tra le lingue endo- ed esocentriche.

    Marriage is a very unique type of interpersonal relationship between two people. Proper communication between spouses is a crucial issue for the good health of the marriage. This article is focused on some communication processes between partners. The communication axioms, as the principles of great impact on the marital relationship, have been shown together with the possibilities of the spouses’ communication difficulties. The role of non-verbal communication, as well as the specification of some concrete communication behaviors, are the highlighted topics in the following article.
    Relacja małżeńska jest specyficznym typem relacji interpersonalnej, a w jej funkcjono-waniu niezwykle ważną rolę odgrywa skuteczna komunikacja między małżonkami. Ten arty-kuł prezentuje niektóre procesy komunikacyjne zachodzące pomiędzy małżonkami. Ukazane są w nim aksjomaty komunikacyjne jako zasady funkcjonujące również w relacji małżeńskiej; przedstawiona jest rola umiejętności komunikacyjnych w dobrym funkcjonowaniu małżeństwa, a także możliwe trudności w komunikacji małżeńskiej. Ponadto w artykule uwypuklona jest rola komunikacji niewerbalnej w małżeństwie oraz charakterystyka konkretnych zachowań komunikacyjnych w relacji pomiędzy małżonkami.
