    Oriana Fallaci had the opportunity to closely observe the efforts the US made during the Space Race which was sealed in 1957 by the launch of the first Russian Sputnik. The journalist knew dozens of NASA workers (including astronauts, engineers and doctors) and others (external scientists, advertisers, writers). Based on the interviews and articles printed in L’Europeo, Fallaci published two books Se il Sole muore (1965) and Quel giorno sulla Luna (1970). Recently, the publishing house Rizzoli collected some of Fallaci’s texts that appeared in this weekly newspaper (L’Europeo) between 1964 and 1980 in the volume La Luna di Oriana (2018). It would be worth analyzing the cornerstones of Fallaci’s narrative approach, resembling in many ways the American New Journalism – with its tension between information and emotion, interpretation and persuasion – in her work before the famous war reports.

    Alceo Valcini was the Warsaw-based correspondent for the Italian daily “Corriere della Sera” during the years 1933-1946. Valcini encountered great difficulties with the editor-in-chief of the newspaper, Aldo Borelli, who was not interested in following the political life of Poland except for Poland’s clashes with the Soviet Union. Valcini managed to publish his articles as long as they stressed the influence of Mussolini’s fascism on Polish political life or if they dealt with Soviet political interference in Central Europe. Valcini was to be replaced by another journalist as correspondent from Warsaw because of his own pro-Polish views and scarce enthusiasm for the aggressive stances of Nazi Germany towards Czechoslovakia and Poland, but he nevertheless managed to witness Hitler’s aggression against Poland. His stories were the first accounts of German persecution of the Polish Jews and Warsaw’s civil population, although they had no chance of publication on the pages of the increasingly pro-Nazi “Corriere della Sera”. Valcini took notice of everything that happened in Poland between the outbreak of the war and the end of July 1944. In 1945, Valcini collected his memoirs in a publication entitled The Calvary of Warsaw, in which he gave a graphic account of life in the city under German occupation. Valcini witnessed to the uprising in the Jewish Ghetto and to the activities of the Polish Secret State. His book was translated into Polish in 1970, after having undergone heavy editing, possibly as a result of intervention by the Communist censors. In any event, Valcini turned out to be one of the very few Italian journalists who – in writing about World War II and the Nazi occupation of Poland – did not fall prey to Goebbel’s Propagandaministerium, unlike the much more celebrated reporter Indro Montanelli.

    Nel 1956 la Polonia è stata attraversata da significative trasformazioni politiche, culturali e sociali. Queste sono connesse agli eventi che hanno stravolto il Pcus e il comunismo internazionale dopo la denuncia dei crimini commessi da Stalin durante il XX congresso del partito tenutosi a Mosca. Particolarmente significative sono state l'emergere di una corrente riformista all'interno del PZPR, la rivolta operaia di Poznan e la sua severa repressione, il ritorno alla segreteria del partito di Władysław Gomułka e l'apertura di una nuova fase politica che ispirerà la rivolta di Budapest. Queste vicende hanno goduto di una grande attenzione presso l'opinione pubblica internazionale. Nel seguente saggio si analizza in modo critico come la stampa italiana ha ricostruito questi fatti, quali interpretazioni sono state fornite a seconda delle fasi sulla Polonia e sulle e voluzioni della situazione politica.
    In 1956 Poland underwent significant political, cultural and social transformations. These are connected to the events that upset the PCUS and international communism after the denunciation of the crimes committed by Stalin during the 20th Congress of the Party held in Moscow. Very important were: the emergence of a reformist current within the PZPR, the Poznan workers' revolt and its severe repression, the return to the party secretariat of Władysław Gomułka and the opening of a new political phase that will inspire the revolt in Budapest. These events received a great deal of attention in international public opinion. In the following essay we critically analyse how the Italian press reconstructed these facts, what interpretations were given on Poland and on the evolution of the political situation.

    This paper focuses on the language of sports in the press, and its objectives are to analysethe specific linguistic features of the language of sports, to describe their function and to assert their possible impact on sports fans. By means of content analysis, a corpus of articles from a popular Italian sports newspaper, La Gazzetta dello Sport, was investigated in order to examine the stylistic properties typical of the language of sports. Indeed, all of the features described in this article’s review of literature on the language of sports were richly present in the corpus under scrutiny. Their role consists in forming opinions, creating attitudes and arousing emotional reactions among readers.
    L’obiettivo del presente articolo consiste nell’analisi dei caratteri linguistici tipici del linguaggio dello sport nella stampa italiana, nella descrizione della loro funzione e nella spiegazione della loro possibile incidenza sui tifosi-lettori. Dopo una rassegna critica della bibliografia concernente il linguaggio dello sport si presentano i risultati di un’analisi quantiqualitativa del corpus composto dagli articoli tratti dal quotidiano sportivo italiano La Gazzetta dello Sport. È significativo che nel corpus sottoposto a scrutinio si sia riuscito a constatare la presenza di tutti i mezzi stilistici descritti nella parte teorica. Essi sono dotati di una spiccata funzione espressiva, contribuiscono alla formazione dell’opinione, servono a suscitare reazioni, sentimenti e atteggiamenti ben precisi fra i lettori.

    L'articolo presenta alcuni testi di Massimo Bontempelli finora relativamente poco esplorati dalla critica bontempelliana o perfino sconosciuti, provenienti dall'ambito del giornalismo e da collaborazioni editoriali. L’analisi della prefazione alle Prose di fede e di vita del primo tempo dell’umanesimo, scritta da Bontempelli nel 1913, mostra (anche al confronto con altri articoli bontempelliani sia del periodo degli esordi, sia dei primi anni Venti) che numerose tesi della tendenza culturale e letteraria del ‘novecentismo’ teorizzata tra il 1926 e il 1927, erano presenti già nelle prime collaborazioni editoriali di questo intellettuale. Fra queste tesi: il ruolo di una lingua trasparente, l’importanza dell’immaginazione, la necessità di prestare attenzione al pubblico e di liberarsi da una troppo stretta adesione al canone, per nominarne alcune.
    The article presents selected newspaper articles and a preface written by Massimo Bontempelli which have been relatively unexplored and unacknowledged by the literary criticism. The comparative analysis of the preface from 1913 and selected articles from his early period and the early 1920s, shows that numerous core ideas pertaining to his cultural and literary project ‘novecentismo’, which was officially launched as a theoretical proposal between 1926-1927, were already present in his early editorial collaborations as well as the articles: the role of linguistic transparency, the importance of imagination, Bontempelli’s anti-canonical attitude and the role he assigns to the reader, to name a few.

    This work describes how Corriere della Sera reported the great workers’ strikes in Gdansk (August 1980). The Polish events immediately attracted the attention of the Italian press also due to the important role played by Pope John Paul II. Corriere della Sera, one of the oldest and most important Italian newspapers is the point of reference for the moderate liberal bourgeoisie. Thanks to the work of reporters and intellectuals such as vittorio Zucconi, Sandro Scabello, Leo valiani, enzo Biagi, Alberto ronchey has recounted these events in an absolutely interesting and original way.

    La Primavera di Praga è stato uno degli eventi più significativi del 1968, capace di lasciare larghe tracce nella storia del ‘900 europeo. Analizzando i principali quotidiani e riviste italiane del periodo, questo saggio intende fornire un’interpretazione delle linee di lettura, delle analisi e delle cronache giornalistiche più interessanti di quell’evento. Particolare attenzione è stata dedicata a tre momenti che hanno avuto una particolare importanza nello svolgimento dell’intera vicenda: la caduta di Novotný e l’ascesa di Dubček; il consolidamento del gruppo riformista; l’intervento armato sovietico e la reazione della stampa italiana.
    Prague’s Spring was one of the most significant event of 1968, able of leaving large signs in the history of the 20th century in Europe. This essay intends to provide an interpretation of the most interesting reading lines, analysis and journalistic reports of that event through the main Italian newspapers and magazines of that period. A particular attention is given to three important moments that were the turning point of that event: the falling of Novotný and the rising of Dubček; solidification of the reformist’s group; the armed intervention of the soviets and the reaction of the Italian press.
