Polska - Opis:
- The poem Pensando Patria (Think Fatherland), by Stanisław Andrzej Gruda, one of the many pseudonyms of young Woityła, fits very well in the subject matter of the Congress, inspired by Niccolò Tommaseo. Gruda shows a deep understanding of the idea of Fatherland, based on the strong relationship between the roots, the history and the language, as well as the freedom, of the Polish nation. The call to “Uscire da se stesso e parlare al maggior numero possibile di uomini” (“to flee from oneself and talk to as many men as possible”), an important aspect of the poet’s mission according to Tommaseo, was achieved by Woityla both as poet, when he sang the liberation of Poland from foreigner’s yoke, and as Priest (and subsequently Pope) when he foregrounded the value of freedom as a crucial part of human conscience.
