    The authors of this article discuss how the works of Hermann Stehr (1864–1940), a German writer from Silesia, were received. An author, who – like Gerhart Hauptmann – stayed in Germany after the national socialists took over. That fact affected the reception of his writing: to this day, he is considered as a representative of the so-colled ‘literature of blood and land’, which the Nazis perceived as expression of „German spirit”. This article presents Stehr’s literary works from various perspectives. It shows the tragedy of the author making political choices in times, when an individual, even the most prominent, was subjected to totalitarian processes of unification and de-individualization.

    Der Beitrag untersucht die Transkulturalität von Wiktor Gomulickis 1896 veröffentlichtem Poem Pieśń o Gdańsku, einem der wenigen polnischen Gedichte über das Danzig des Wilhelminischen Kaiserreiches. Er zeigt, dass die antagonistische Zeichnung des deutsch-slawischen Konflikts im Danzig jener Zeit mit intertextuellen Referenzen zur deutschen Literatur (Heinrich Heine, Joseph von Eichendorff ) einhergeht, das Gedicht also durch die Spannung von Nähe und Distanz zur deutschen Hegemonialkultur geprägt ist. Einige ausgewählte Szenen des Poems werden unter Rückgriff auf interkulturelle Metaphern (Palimpsest, Störung) interpretiert.
    The essay analyzes transculturalism of Wiktor Gomulicki’s poem Pieśń o Gdańsku, published in 1896, one of a few Polish poems about Gdańsk of the Wilhelmine Empire. It shows that antagonistic drawing of the German-Slavic conflict in Gdańsk of that period is accompanied by intertextual references to German literaturę (Heinrich Heine, Joseph von Eichendorff ), so the poem is characterized by tension of proximity and distance to the German hegemonic culture. The selected scenes of the poem are interpreted with recourse to intercultural metaphors (palimpsest, disruption).

    Opis:
    Als ANNA SEGHERS 1940 mit ihrer Familie versuchte, aus dem von der deutschen Wehrmacht besetzten Teil Frankreichs zu fliehen, schrieb sie Die drei Bäume, drei kurze Texte, die sich mit Angstgefühlen auseinandersetzen – es sind die Angst vor Verfolgung, vor Führungslosigkeit und vor Entfremdung. In der SEGHERS-Forschung haben diese kurzen Geschichten kaum Beachtung gefunden – sehr zu Unrecht, wie die Verfasserin anhand ihrer jahrzehntelangen Erfahrungen im Umgang mit den kurzen Geschichten darstellt.
    Gdy ANNA SEGHERS razem ze swoją rodziną próbowała w 1940 r. uciec z zajętych przez niemiecki Wehrmacht terenów Francji, napisała trzy krótkie teksty Die drei Bäume (Trzy drzewa). Teksty te zajmują się lękiem i pytają, w jaki sposób można sobie z nim radzić – chodzi o lęk przed prześladowaniem, lęk przed brakiem osoby, której można zaufać i lęk przed wyobcowaniem. Literatura naukowa o SEGHERS nie zwróciła uwagi na te teksty – niesłusznie. Autorka artykułu przywraca je pamięci opierając się na kilkudziesięcioletnich badaniach poświęconych krótkim opowiadaniom.
    In 1940, when ANNA SEGHERS and her family tried to flee the part of France occupied by the German Wehrmacht, she wrote Die drei Bäume; three short texts dealing with feelings of fear – that is, the fear of persecution, of lack of leadership, and of alienation. In research into SEGHERS, these short stories have received little attention – unjustifiably so, as the author shows, based on her decades of experience in dealing with the short stories.

    Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie obecności Rafika Schamiego, niemieckiego pisarza o syryjskich korzeniach, na polskim rynku wydawniczym oraz analiza reakcji polskiego odbiorcy na jego twórczość. Autorka odpowiada na pytanie, dlaczego Schami został tak późno dostrzeżony przez polskie wydawnictwa i wiąże fakt zainteresowania jego twórczością z bieżącymi wydarzeniami politycznymi w Syrii. W przeciągu zaledwie pięciu lat opubliowa-no w Polsce pięć książek tego pisarza, które otrzymały bardzo entuzjastyczne recenzje i zdobyły duże grono fanów. Zdaniem autorki powodem tej popularności, zwłaszcza wśród czytelniczek, jest niezwykły talent Rafika Schamiego jako gawędziarza i uniwersalny charak-ter jego książek, które są adresowane tak do dzieci i młodzieży jak i do dorosłych. Jeżeli chodzi o obecność twórczości tego autora w polskim obiegu krytycznoliterackim i naukowym, to wciąż czeka ona na odkrycie. 
    The aim of this article is to present the work of Rafik Schami, a German writer with Syrian origins, and to determine the impact of his literary output on the publishing market in Poland and to analyze how his output has been received by Polish readers. The authoress answers why Polish publishing houses have been late in their discovery of Schami and draws a parallel between the current state of affairs in Syria and a recently developed interest in Shami's works. In just five years, five of his books have been published in Poland. Not only have the works been well received, they have amassed a large number of followers. The authoress thinks that his great popularity, especially among women, is due to both Shami's talent as a raconteur and the universal nature of his books. They are perfect for children and adolescents as well as adults. As an author, however, he is still waiting to be discovered by Polish critical and academic circles. 
    Im vorliegenden Beitrag wird dargestellt, wie das Werk von Rafik Schami auf dem polnischen Büchermarkt funktioniert und wie es von den polnischen Lesern aufgenommen und rezipiert wird. Die Autorin fragt auch, warum das polnische Verlagswesen den namhaften und anderswo vielfach preisgekrönten Schriftsteller so spät entdeckte und sieht die Ursache für das erwachende Interesse an seinem Werk in den aktuellen politischen Ereignissen in Syrien. Es ist kein Zufall, dass man in den letzten fünf Jahren gleich fünf Bücher dieses Autors auflegte, die sehr enthusiastisch rezensiert wurden. Die Autorin sieht die wachsende Begeisterung für Schamis Werk in Polen in dessen erzählerischem Talent und in dem universellen Charakter seiner Bücher, die sowohl an Kinder und Jugendliche als auch an Erwachsene adressiert sind. Die philologische Forschung in Polen hat Rafik Schami bis dato noch wenig Interesse geschenkt.
