    In dem vorliegenden Beitrag wird der Versuch unternommen, die Biographie und die Werke der österreichischen Lyrikerin und Schriftstellerin Paula von Preradović (1887‒1951) im Hinblick auf die Quellen ihres Weltbildes zu untersuchen. Neben zahlreichen Gedichten schrieb die Dichterin drei Novellen, einen Roman, ein Tagebuch sowie autobiographische und publizistische Texte. Sie wurde vor allem durch das Gedicht „Land der Berge, Land am Strome“ (1947) – den Text der österreichischen Bundeshymne, bekannt. Ihre Werke sind von einem kohärenten Weltbild geprägt, das christliche und humanistische Züge trägt.
    This article investigates Paula von Preradović’s (1887‒1951) biography and literary works and it pays a special attention to the roots of her Christian worldview. Her work consists mainly of numerous poems, but she also wrote one novel, short stories, autobiographical sketches, small scenic works and journalistic texts. The Austrian writer composed the lyrics for the national anthem of Austria in 1947, „Land der Berge, Land am Strome” [Land of the mountains, land on the river]. The Christian worldview plays a major role in her literary works. She is one of those Austrian writers who recognized the role of religion in creating social cohesion across nationalities and ethnicities.

    Der vorliegende Beitrag beschäftigt sich mit der Prosa der österreichischen Schriftstellerin Paula von Preradović (1887–1951) im Kontext der ,christlichen Literatur‘, einer Kategorie, die sehr unterschiedlich definiert wird und deshalb als umstritten gilt. Preradović schrieb hauptsächlich Lyrik, doch sie verfasste auch einen Roman, Novellen sowie autobiographische und journalistische Texte. Sie ist vor allem als Autorin der österreichischen Bundeshymne bekannt (Land der Berge, Land am Strome, 1947).
    This article focusses on the prose of the Austrian writer Paula von Preradović (1887–1951) paying special attention to the placement of her works within the context of ‘Christian literature’, a category which is regarded as controversial. Preradović’s literature consists mainly of numerous poems, but she also wrote a novel, short stories, autobiographical sketches, small scenic works and journalistic texts. The Austrian writer composed the lyrics for the national anthem of Austria – Land der Berge, Land am Strome [Land of the mountains, land on the river] (1947).
    Niniejszy artykuł poświęcony jest prozie pisarki austriackiej Pauli von Preradović (1887–1951), której twórczość została omówiona w kontekście polemiki o ‘literaturę chrześcijańską’ – kategorii definiowanej na bardzo różne sposoby. W XX wieku wokół niej rozgorzał wśród literaturoznawców spór. Preradović znana jest przede wszystkim jako autorka licznych wierszy. Napisała także powieść, kilka nowel oraz szereg tekstów autobiograficznych i publicystycznych. W 1947 roku jej wiersz pt. Land der Berge, Land am Strome [Kraju gór, kraju nad rzeką] został wybrany jako tekst nowego hymnu państwowego Austrii.

    Im Artikel wird die Geschichte des Topos „Gespräch über Bäume“ in der deutschsprachigen Literatur skizziert. Der Autor analysiert Bertolt Brechts Gedicht An die Nachgeborenen, dem die Phrase „Gespräch über Bäume“ entnommen wurde, und präsentiert an ausgewählten Beispielen das Funktionieren des Topos in unterschiedlichen literaturgeschichtlichen Kontexten nach 1945. Er verweist dabei darauf, dass die Verbreitung des Topos durch interpretatorische Missverständnisse begünstigt wurde. Viele Benutzer des Topos ignorierten nämlich den Zusammenhang, in dem das „Gespräch über Bäume“ in dem Brechtschen Gedicht steht.
    W artykule została naszkicowana historia toposu „Gespräch über Bäume“ („rozmowa o drzewach“) w literaturze niemieckojęzycznej. Autor analizuje wiersz Bertolta Brechta An die Nachgeborenen (Do urodzonych już potem), z którego pochodzi fraza „Gespräch über Bäume”, i prezentuje funkcjonowanie tego toposu na wybranych przykładach w różnych kontekstach historycznoliterackich po 1945 roku. Wskazuje przy tym na fakt, że do popularności toposu przyczyniły się błędne interpretacje wiersza.
    The article outlines the history of the literary topos “Gespräch über Bäume” (“a conversation about trees”) in German-language literature. The author analyses Bertolt Brecht’s poem, An die Nachgeborenen (To Those Who Follow in Our Wake), which is the source of the phrase “Gespräch über Bäume,” and presents the functioning of this topos on the chosen examples in various historical and literary contexts after 1945. The author also points to the fact that misinterpretations of the poem contributed to the popularity of this topos.
