    Ziel dieses Artikels ist es, das Bild des Teufels zu beschreiben, das sich in der deutschen Phraseologie konstituiert hat, und die Art und Weise aufzuzeigen, auf welche dieses Bild in den für die Analyse ausgewählten repräsentativen Wortverbindungen zum Vorschein kommt. Da es besonders wichtig ist, ihr evaluatives Potenzial darzustellen, stützt sich die Beschreibungsmethode auf den begrifflichen Apparat der axiologischen Linguistik. Es wird festgestellt, dass der Bezug auf das moralisch Böse, der sich aus semantischen Präsuppositionen herausschält, als das grundlegendste Kriterium für die Bewertung des Teufels fungiert. Die Analyse lässt auch erkennen, dass einige der untersuchten Wortverbindungen Informationen über das ästhetische und pragmatische Kriterium seiner Bewertung offenbaren. Der Teufel erscheint in der Sprache – im Wesentlichen in Form einer Metapher – als ein Wesen, das Abscheu und allgemeine Abneigung hervorruft. Außerdem wird er einerseits als tierähnliche Kreatur verbildlicht, andererseits als ein Wesen mit menschlichen Merkmalen, denkend und gerissen, das die Menschen zum Bösen verführt. In diesem Sinne wird ihm die Macht zugeschrieben, sie auf betrügerische Weise beeinflussen zu können. Aus den im Deutschen etablierten Überzeugungen geht jedoch hervor, dass diese Macht nicht endgültig ist, da der Teufel von den Sprachbenutzern in der Dimension der Furcht vor dem Heiligen gesehen wird, das ihm in seinem Wesen überlegen ist. Die Untersuchungen zeigen, dass Wortverbindungen, die das Lexem Teufel enthalten, in erster Linie dazu dienen, unerwünschte menschliche Haltungen sowie als ungünstig empfundene Lebenssituationen und Zustände negativ zu bewerten. Die axiolinguistische Perspektive der Betrachtung führt auch zu dem Schluss, dass diese Wortverbindungen in bestimmten Sprechsituationen eine expressive und persuasive Funktion erfüllen können.
    This aim of this article was to describe the representations of the devil in German phraseology based on an analysis of representative phraseological units. Special emphasis was placed on the axiological potential of these depictions, which is why the descriptive method relied on the conceptual apparatus of axiological linguistics. The study demonstrated that in semantic presuppositions, the main axiological criterion for formulating value judgements about the devil is associated with the concept of moral evil. The analysis also revealed that some of the analyzed phraseological units carry information about esthetic and pragmatic criteria for evaluating the devil. In language, the devil is portrayed metaphorically as a creature that elicits disgust and disapproval. The devil is also depicted as a hybrid being with both animal and human characteristics, and as a deceitful and cunning creature that leads man to evil. The devil exercises authority through its duplicitous influence on human beings. However, an analysis of deeply-seated beliefs that are epitomized by the German language indicates that devil’s power is not absolute because in language users’ perception, it can be broken by supreme forces that are imbued with a sense of holiness. It was found that phraseological units containing the lexeme devil assign negative value to undesirable human attitudes, life situations and states. The axiolinguistic analysis also revealed that these phraseological units can perform expressive and persuasive functions in a given speech situation.

    The aim of this publication was to reconstruct the image of God that has been perpetuated in the German language through fixed collocations. Based on a methodological reflection, the author attempted to determine which of God’s attributes are conveyed in these expressions. Attempts were also made to identify the linguistic mechanisms that contributed to that process. The author concluded that the image of God present in German phraseology was clearly consistent with the biblical worldview. In the German language, God is depicted as someone good, just, trustworthy, but sometimes also wrathful and stern. According to the beliefs conveyed by the German language, God dwells in heaven, from which He rules over the world as God almighty. God is portrayed explicitly or implicitly, often through metaphorical and metonymic structures. God’s attributes are frequently portrayed in a language whose modality is full of reverence and supplication and is indicative of man’s dependence on Him, as well as through the use of exclusively adulatory vocabulary.

    This article examines the linguistic expression of moral values in selectedGerman phrasemes which have the potential for formulating judgements concerning humanattitudes based on ethical criteria. An attempt was made to identify factors affecting therobustness of that potential, the ways in which that potential is manifested, and the type ofrelationships between the analyzed phrasemes and moral values. The moral convictions oflanguage users that are embedded in the German language were also analyzed. The studydemonstrated that in colloquial German, morality is portrayed in an intellectual and emotivecontext as the essence of subjective human experience. Linguistic data confirm that moralnorms are perceived by language users as an objective truth that should be respected. Thepotential of phrasemes for passing ethical judgements stems from the relationship betweenphrasemes and their characteristic formal attributes, including their figurative and expressivemeaning. This potential is manifested explicitly or implicitly, and its perlocutionary strength isoften determined by the metaphorical motivation of a given phraseme. The analysis confirmedthat the potential of phrasemes is also influenced by the connotative dimension of the lexicon n specific phrasemes. In the most general and broadest sense, the potential of phrasemes forformulating ethical judgements about human attitudes is conditioned by the anthropocentricinterpretation of reality. The study revealed that phrasemes with a potential for making ethicaljudgements are bound by three types of relationships with morality: they should be regarded asa tool for assessing human attitudes, as a source of knowledge about moral values preferred by language users, and as carriers of moral values that are co-responsible for embedding thesevalues in collective memory. The results of this study have practical implications for researchin axiological linguistics and applied ethics.

    Ziel dieser Publikation ist es, die Bedeutungen zu analysieren, die sich in deutschen Phraseologismen mit der Komponente Kreuz festgesetzt haben, ihre sprachliche Modalität und Form zu bestimmen, sowie die kommunikativen Zwecke festzulegen, denen solche Wortverbindungen dienen können. Besonderes Augenmerk wird auf die Relation gelegt, die solche Redensarten mit Werten und dem Bewerten verbindet. Aus diesem Grund wird in den Untersuchungen der Begriffsapparat der Axiolinguistik angewandt. Die Analyse des phraseologischen Materials zeigt, dass die Einheit Kreuz in erster Linie die Funktion einer Metapher erfüllt, die durch ein Netz biblischer Assoziationen auf das Leiden und den Tod Christi verweist und als solche verschiedene Widrigkeiten und Probleme des menschlichen Alltagslebens bestimmt. Das Lexem hat sich in der deutschen Phraseologie auch im anatomischen Sinn (‚der untere Teil des Rückens‘) etabliert, darüber hinaus als Bild zweier sich überkreuzender Linien, was in einigen Wortverbindungen metaphorisch die Erfahrung der Auseinandersetzung, der Niederlage oder der Kritik bezeichnet. Es ist festzustellen, dass die in der deutschen Umgangssprache fixierten Strukturen mit der Komponente Kreuz ein Bewertungspotenzial aufweisen, d. h. explizit oder implizit Urteile kommunizieren. Die Norm, auf deren Grundlage Werturteile zum Vorschein kommen, begünstigt die Äußerung meist negativer Wertungen. Ferner wird festgestellt, dass die untersuchten Wortverbindungen eine assertorische oder imperative Modalität aufweisen und dass die Intensität des Bewertens unter anderem von der spezifischen Art der Modalität, dem Grad der Metaphorisierung oder der Festigkeit eines bestimmten Phraseologismus abhängt. Vor allem aber ist das Valorisierungspotenzial durch das in den Schlussfolgerungen skizzierte, relativ breite Spektrum kommunikativer Zwecke bedingt.
    The aim of this article was to analyze the semantic representation of German phrasemes containing the lexical item Kreuz, to determine their linguistic modality, form, and the communicated message. The conceptual apparatus of axiological linguistics was applied in the study to examine the relationship between phrasemes, values, and the qualification of values. The analyses of phraseological material revealed that the lexical item Kreuz functions mainly as a metaphor which, by making a reference to Biblical associations with the suffering and death of Christ, defines and expresses various life adversities and problems of human existence. This lexeme was also preserved in German phraseology in an anatomical sense (bottom of the spine, the sacrum), and as a representation of two perpendicular lines which denote conflict, strife, experience of defeat and criticism in a metaphorical sense in selected expressions. It was also found that German structures containing the lexical item Kreuz have an axiological potential by communicating judgment explicitly or implicitly. The normative axiological dimension has a clearly anthropocentric character, and it generally propounds negative judgment. The analyzed phrasemes have assertory or imperative modality, and the intensity of the axiological load is determined by, among others, the type of modality, the extent to which these phrasemes carry metaphorical meaning and have lexical connectivity. However, their axiological potential is represented mainly by the wide range of communicated meanings which are described in the Conclusions section.

    About the tasks of the contemporary communication ethics from Dolf Sternberger’s post-war reflection perspective on communication morality The aim of the publication is to analyze the tasks of the contemporary discourse of the communication ethics in relation to post-war reflection of the German journalist Dolf Sternberger concerning the moral use of language and to point out new research and didactic perspectives of this discourse. The author turns reader’s attention to the need to justify moral communication rules, primarily on the personalistic basis recognizing interpersonal communication as personal participation of language users in a given community. Moreover, he states that the task of communication ethics as an academic discipline is, among other things, to establish criteria for describing speech actions in relation to highly regarded values and those protected by law and to identify mechanisms of unethical use of language. According to him, communication ethics as a didactic discipline should promote values on which moral use of language is based, show effects of unethical speech actions and among others, propagate desirable ways of using a word on a moral basis.
