Opis:: In this paper I will analyse taboo words that are characteristic of contemporary Hungarian politics on the basis of personal observations and data gathered via internet and in a newspaper supporting the ruling party and its emblematic figure, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. I will present words that are merely pejorative (e.g. liberális ‘liberal’) but may become taboo words in certain circumstances, while others (e.g. alaptörvény ‘fundamental law’ used instead of alkotmány ‘constitution’) appear to have all the major characteristics of taboo words. It is by no means surprising to find that political taboo words are not the same in the two camps, the one supporting Orbán’s government and its opposition.
Le lancement de termes nouveaux ou peu connus ou la réinterprétation de termes courants fait souvent partie de la stratégie des partis politiques : cela leur permet de marquer leur territoire et les esprits de leurs fidèles en créant des mots d’ordre ou en nommant et désignant des ennemis. Ce phénomène s’accompagne régulièrement d’un processus de tabouisation, les mots clés d’un camp étant bien souvent les tabous linguistiques du camp politique opposé. Dans ce travail, nous proposerons une analyse qualitative de tabous linguistiques relevant de la sphère politique, caractéristiques de la Hongrie des années 2010, dominée par la politique du premier ministre Viktor Orbán.

Opis:: This article is aimed at giving a part of response when it comes to selecting resources, both relevant and easily accessible, which could serve as models in developing complex L2 oral competences. Those resources should encompass all levels (relational, semantic, and formal) required in realizing and interpreting efficiently our communicative intentions in oral language. Among suggested criteria, priority is clearly given to the mastery of interactive procedures in meaning construction, as playing a crucial role both in a speaker’s/learner’s communicative efficacy and the dynamics of his/her oral capacities’ development through the media. Moreover, to illustrate our reflection, we analyze the pedagogical and interactive potential in some excerpts from Le téléphone sonne, a radio segment available in podcast format.

Opis:: The article focuses on the French philology students’ skills of interpreting emotions in radio debates. Data analysis was conducted with the use of the interactional approach, discourse analysis and the rhetorical argumentation approach. The aim was to better understand the students’ interpretative actions and especially, their perception of ethos and pathos. The second objective of the study was to conduct a pilot test of the methodology inspired by research on argumentation in discourse in order to analyze persuasive discourse in a foreign language.

Opis:: The research presented in the paper is a part of the project carried out at the Institute of Romance Languages and Literatures at the University of Adam Mickiewicz in Poznań. The research aims at determining the underdeveloped areas of advanced learners’ listening skills. The ultimate objective of our research is the development of discursive approach toward teaching and learning (Górecka, Wilczyńska, Wojciechowska in press). The study focuses on analyzing writing strategies used by students in the task of summarizing the chosen sequences of media debates in the radio program Le téléphone sonne. We claim that the way the students formulate their answers can reveal, to some extent, the diffi culties they encounter in analyzing and synthetizing oral discourse. The analysis of students’ writing strategies may contribute to the elaboration of pre-task instructions and evaluation techniques, which may result in a better approach to the development of listening skills.

Opis:: The subject of the present study is the persuasive function of irony in a special type of media discourse called socio-political editorial. The use of irony enables the journalist to establish the axiological domain of editorial in order to reinforce the information content and manipulate the readers’ opinions. Therefore, the main aim of the paper is to describe the problem of language manipulation in verbal irony considered by the author as one of semantico-rhetorical means of evaluation. The analyzed articles were culled from selected web pages of French journals and magazines (2005-2008) treating about two types of social reforms and the urban violence in French suburbs.
