    The Multicriteria Evolutionary Weather Routing Algorithm (MEWRA) has already been introduced by the author on earlier TransNav 2009 and 2011 conferences with a focus on theoretical application to a hybrid‐propulsion or motor‐driven ship. This paper addresses the topic of possible practical weather routing applications of MEWRA. In the paper some practical advantages of utilizing Pareto front as a result of multicriteria optimization in case of route finding are described. The paper describes the notion of Paretooptimality of routes along with a simplified, easy to follow, example. It also discusses a choice of the most suitable ranking method for MEWRA (a comparison between Fuzzy TOPSIS and Zero Unitarization Method is presented). In addition to that the paper briefly outlines a commercial application of MEWRA.

    Research background: Many scientists have researched the economic competitiveness of agriculture. At the same time, considerably less attention is paid to the so-called green competitiveness. Considering a global trend searching for solutions to reduce the environmental impact of the agricultural sector, it seems reasonable to explore the overlap between economic competitiveness and green competitiveness. Purpose of the article: This study aims to answer the following questions: What is the level of economic and green competitiveness of agriculture in respective countries? What is the level of the comprehensive competitiveness of agriculture in EU member states?  Do the economic competitiveness outcomes of respective countries coincide with their green competitiveness rankings? Methods: Taxonomic methods were applied to design synthetic indices of economic, green and comprehensive competitiveness of 27 member states of the European Union, based on multi-criteria sets of specific indicators from 2018. Findings & value added: The results of analyses imply that, in general, the level of green competitiveness of agriculture is higher than the level of its economic competitiveness in EU member states. Simultaneously, the developed rankings show that respective countries' economic and green competitiveness are not linked. In other words, economic competitiveness outcomes do not match green competitiveness outcomes for EU agriculture. This work is a genuine contribution to studies on the methods for measuring and evaluating the competitiveness of agriculture as it designs separate synthetic measures for economic and green competitiveness and confronts both types of competitiveness in EU member states. The research findings for the first time provide clear answers to questions about the mutual relationship between economic and green competitiveness in agriculture. Furthermore, an added value of this study is that it introduces and attempts to define the notion of green competitiveness.

    Subject and purpose of work: This paper analyzes the level of knowledge-based economy (KBE) in terms of sustainable development across the provinces (voivodships) of Poland in 2020. The underlying assumption of this study is that knowledge and skills are one of the fundamental preconditions for successfully implementing the concept of sustainable development. Materials and methods: In order to calculate the rankings of Polish voivodships a synthetic indicator developed on the basis of the zeroed unitarization method was used. Results: There are vast disproportions in the levels of KBE across the voivodeships of Poland. The most advanced KBE was identified in the Mazowieckie Voivodship, and the least developed KBE was found in the Lubuskie voivodship. Conclusions: The capacity to develop a knowledge-based economy is inextricably interrelated with the quality of the social capital, which is directly attributable to the levels of education. In order to offset the interregional disproportions spending on research and development needs to be increased and the investments in human capital (e.g. through career planning, training, improving the professional qualifications of employees, discretionary bonuses) and new technologies should be expanded.

    The topic of suggested paper concerns the one of basic economic problems the growing expenditures connected with functioning pension systems in the countries of European Union. The main purpose is presenting the disparity of expenditures for public pensions in countries of European Union and their projection until the 2050. While discussing so important and present in many countries theme of pension security, the general characteristic of cooperation of members of the EU and EFTA in the area of social protection has been made. Particularly, the hitherto existing operations taken in the range of Open Method of Coordination of pension systems, which is realized since the year 2000, have been presented. Besides, the synthetic variable has been applied for the general evaluation of the degree of diversification of expenditures for social protection (EU and EFTA) and public pensions in countries of the European Union. It allowed to describe and set countries in order from the point of view of analysed phenomenon.
    Omówiono jeden z podstawowych problemów ekonomicznych, czyli rosnące wydatki związane z funkcjonowaniem systemów emerytalnych w krajach Unii Europejskiej. Głównym celem było przedstawienie różnic wydatków na publiczne systemy emerytalne w krajach Unii Europejskiej oraz ich prognozy do roku 2050. Dokonano również charakterystyki ochrony socjalnej w państwach członkowskich UE i EFTA. Omówiono otwartą metodę koordynacji dla systemów emerytalnych, która jest stosowana w krajach UE od 2000 r. Oprócz tego zastosowano zmienną syntetyczną do ogólnej oceny stopnia zróżnicowania wydatków na rzecz opieki socjalnej (UE i EFTA) i publicznego systemu emerytalnego w krajach Unii Europejskiej.
