Opis:
Monitoring of the status and behavior of drivers is important for ensuring traffic safety. The process using SHP (automatic train braking system) and CA (dead man’s control system) has been used in railway transport since 1960s. Equipment of similar functionalities is at the stage of research and single implementation projects in road traffic. It seems that monitoring of drivers in both rail and road traffic can be implemented using equipment of the same or similar construction, operating within visible and infrared bands, and in the acoustic spectrum. This article includes a presentation of two universal devices developed by the authors. The planned monitoring systems to be used in road and rail traffic can be similar in terms of equipment used. As regards software, collecting information about behavior and status of drivers (based on functionalities of equipment), the two systems differ.

Opis:
The scope of this study covers events resulting from improper functioning of machine control systems. An accident model providing a basis for formulating a checklist for accident analysis has been developed. Data about 700 accidents were collected. An analysis has proved that in the group of accidents caused by improper functioning of machine control systems, serious accidents happened much more frequently as compared to the group of accidents with no relation to the control system. The reasons for the majority of incidents caused by improper performance of safety functions consist in the errors made by designers. In view of that, incorrect behaviour of a worker should be treated as a normal event instead of a deviation causing an accident.

Opis:
One of the dimensions treated as part of a company's safety culture or climate is workers' attitudes towards risk and safety. In the present study these personal aspects are defined as workers' safety culture, which is understood as a way of acting focused on life and taking care of one's health. A questionnaire on safety culture was filled out by 200 employees of a metallurgical enterprise. Factor analysis was used to determine empirical scales of the questionnaire, whereas variance analysis was used to test hypotheses. The results confirmed the hypotheses that people who experienced accidents, dangerous situations, and-to a lesser extent-health problems had a lower level of safety culture. Nevertheless not all of the scales determined during factor analysis turned out to be significant as far as all kinds of those undesirable situations are concerned. Proposals for future studies are formulated in the conclusion.

Opis:
Endoscopy is a common and effective method to treat digestive system diseases. Not only can it detect the physiological state of the digestive tract, but also can conduct clinical operations. As a result, it’s of great significance to make clear the relationship between the clinical operation and the complications. Methods: Considering the difficulty in measuring the contact force and determining the stress distribution in real time during endoscopy, a specific-patient finite element model for the frictional behavior at the endoscope-esophagus interface was built in current study. By collecting the CT data of the patient, a 3D esophagus model was built and divided into three characteristic regions (narrow region, thoracic region and abdominal region) according to the physiological structure. Results: Results showed that the radius of the narrowest position was the dominant factor for the maximum von Mises stress when the endoscope passed through the narrow region. For abdominal region and thoracic region, with the increasing coefficient of friction (COF) and amplitude, the total force duo to frictional force (CFSM), frictional dissipation (FD), strain energy (SE) and maximum von Mises stress (Max) all increased correspondingly. Meanwhile, the region of stress concentration gradually approached the initial contact stage. Conclusions: The results can provide theoretical basis and technical support for clinical application and offer some suggestions for medical workers during endoscopy as well.
