Opis:
The relative relationships "yield - evapotranspiration" were used long time ago. The well known linear relationship yi = 1 - ky (1 - ei), where yi is relative yield, ky - yield response factor and ei - relative evapotranspiration was proposed. It's usually assumed that ky is constant for a given crop and climatic conditions. It was found, however, that ky for late variety of maize H 708 varied through the study years (1984-1990) in the Plovdiv region ( South Bulgaria , altitude 150 m). During the dry years it was significantly higher than in the medium and humid years. The range of ky for maize in this location was 1.12-1.90, the average value being 1.50. The climate in the Sofia region (the experimental field of Chelopechene, altitude 550 m) is comparatively more humid. The two regions approximately outlined the boundaries of the appropriate economical conditions for grain maize production. The experiments in the Sofia region were carried out in the years 1994-2000. The seven years results for mean variety maize showed that the relationships "yield - evapotranspiration" and, respectively, ky varied at these climatic conditions too. The highest ky value was 1.41 for the driest year (2000) and the lowest value - 1.05 for the most wet years (1995, 1999). The value of ky for average years was 1.21. The yield response factor ky is of more significance when the relative evapotranspiration is less than 0.7-0.8. Thus, the extreme or the average values of ky could be used for the corresponding climatic regions. The relationships between ky and relative yield were established without considering irrigation.
W pracy przedstawiono wyniki badań nad plonami i ewapotranspiracją dwóch mieszańców kukurydzy. Badania te prowadzono w różnych okresach siedmioletnich w dwóch odmiennych klimatycznie regionach Bułgarii. Analizowane regiony wyznaczają granice obszarów opłacalnej uprawy kukurydzy na ziarno w tych warunkach klimatycznych. Przedstawiono analizę wartości wskaźnika ky w latach suchych, średnich i mokrych.

To study the relationship between seed yield and its components 5 varieties and 18 different genotypes of Cicer arietinum were evaluated. This study was carried out under dryland farming during 2007 in research farm of Razi university. Path analysis showed that in the first level of yield, the highest direct effect was related to biological yield and the highest indirect effect was related to seed number per plant due to biological yield. In second level of yield due to the seed number per plant double seed pod number had the highest direct effect and the highest indirect effect was related to hundreds seed weight due to double the seed pod number. In second level of yield due to biological yield, the highest direct effect was related to high plant and the highest indirect effect was related to high plant due to second branch number. In the third level of yield due to a hundred seed weight, the highest direct effect was related to pod diameter and the highest indirect effect was related to pod length due to pod diameter. Factor analysis showed that 5 factors explained 81.65 percent of the variance. Cluster analysis based on ward method were arranged genotypes in 3 clusters.

An important issue in immunization theory is the form of the interest rate process under which immunization is feasible. This paper generalizes Fisher and Weil immunization result to convex interest rate shifts, and examines the practical significance of this generalization. We examine the features of a linear factor model that are consistent with a convex shift. In particular, we show that a specific two factor linear model is sufficient and necessary for a convex shift. This two factor specification allows parallel and damped yield curve shifts, which in combination can twist the yield curie.

Opis:
There are a number of various approaches to the development of yield predictive models in agriculture. One of the most popular ones is based on the yield modeling from the parameters of crop cultivation technology. However, there is another view on the yield prediction models, which is based on the use of life factors as yielding parameters. Our study is devoted to the comparison of a conventional technological approach to the yield prediction with a less prevalent approach of life factor based yield modeling. The testing of two approaches was performed by using the yielding data of sweet corn cultivated in the field trials under the drip-irrigated conditions of the Southern Ukraine, under the different technological treatments, viz. plowing depth, nutrition, and crop density. We developed two multiple linear regression models to compare their efficiency in the yielding predictions. One of the models used cultivation technology parameters as the inputs while the other used life factors as the inputs. Life factors were expressed in numeric values by using the following converter: total water consumption of the crop was used as the factor of water, the total sum of positive temperatures was used as the factor of heat, and the total sum of the main nutrients (NPK) available in the soil was used as the factor of nutrition. The results of the study proved an equal accuracy and reliability of the studied models of sweet corn yields, which is obvious from the values of RSQ. RSQ of the both studied regression models was 0.897. However, additional check of the modeling approaches applied in the feed-forward artificial neural network showed that the life factor based model with the RSQ value of 0.953 provided better yield predictions than the technologically based model with the RSQ value of 0.913. Therefore, we concluded that the life factor approach should be preferred to the technological approach in the development of yield predictive models for agriculture.

Strict, three-year-long field experiment was performed on degraded Phaeozems, IIIb soil valuation class, with pH ranging from 6.5 to 7.1, of high richness in phosphorus and potassium, medium in magnesium, and low in sulphur. The experiment was carried out in a split-block design with two factors in four repetitions. The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of various doses of nitrogen (0, 60, 120, and 180 kg·haˉ¹ ) and sulphur (0, 20, and 60 kg·haˉ¹ ), taking into account their different application methods (in-soil and as foliar fertiliser), on the yield components of spring rapeseed cultivar Star. Fertilisation only with nitrogen significantly increased the values of all the studied components, while the sulphur-only fertilisation increased the number of seeds in siliques, as well as the mass of 1000 grains. The number of seeds per silique in none of the research years was significantly affected by the interaction between nitrogen and sulphur. As far as other characteristics are concerned, considering sulphur alongside nitrogen fertilisation, in general, resulted in a significant increase in their values, in comparison with the control plants.

Opis:
Spaghetti squash is an interesting novelty in Poland. Popularization of spaghetti squash cultivation in our country requires development of agricultural recommendations. The size and the quality of yield is highly affected by the sowing date and plant population. The paper presents the results of a four-year study on the effect of the sowing date (5, 15 and 25 May) and plant spacing (1 × 0.6 m, 1 × 0.8 m and 1 × 1 m, ie. 16,668, 12,500 and 10,000 plants per ha) on the yield of spaghetti squash (‘Makaronowa Warszawska’ and ‘Pyza’) under the soil and climatic conditions of central-eastern Poland. The highest yield per hectare and the largest number of marketable fruits per plant was obtained while sowing on 5 May. Delaying the sowing date resulted in a decrease in the yield per hectare and of the number of marketable fruits per plant, although the average weight of a marketable fruit sown on 15 and 25 May did not significantly differ in comparison to sowing on 5 May. Increasing the spacings between plants from 1 × 0.6 m to 1 × 1 m resulted in decreasing the yield per hectare, but the number of marketable fruits per plant was larger. Plant spacing did not have a significant effect on the average weight of a marketable fruit. The yield per hectare for the ‘Pyza’ was larger in comparison to the ‘Makaronowa Warszawska’. The number of marketable fruits per plant did not significantly differ, but the weight of the ‘Pyza’ fruit was higher.
Dynia makaronowa jest interesującą nowością w Polsce. Rozpowszechnienie uprawy dyni makaronowej w naszym kraju wymaga opracowania zaleceń agrotechnicznych.

Statistical relationships between the quantum yield of photosynthesis and selected environmental factors in the ocean have been studied. The underwater irradiance, nutrient content, water temperature and water trophicity (i.e. the surface concentration of chlorophyll Ca(0)) have been considered, utilizing a large empirical data base. On the basis of these relationships, a mathematical model of the quantum yield was worked out in which the quantum yield Φ is expressed as a product of the theoretical maximum quantum yield ΦMAX = 0.125 atomC quanta−1 and six dimensionless factors. Each of these factors fi appears to be, to a sufficiently good approximation, dependent on one or two environmental factors and optical depth at most. The model makes it possible to determine the quantum yield from known values of these environmental factors. Empirical verification of the model yielded a positive result – the statistical error of the approximate values of the quantum yield Φ is 42%.

Effects of the climate change appear in several fields of the economy and agriculture can be considered as one of the most affected among them. In a country, where almost 10% of the total GDP is produced by the agricultural sector and more than 30% of the total work force is employed in this field, these changes may have severe economic impacts. As in Romania almost 65% of the agricultural production is represented by vegetal production, we concentrate our investigations on this agricultural sector. Our aim is to present, basing on econometric modeling, how the climate changes will affect the Romanian crop production in the next 20 years, highlighting the territorial differences which appear between the Romanian NUTS2 development regions. This paper presents some of the first results of the FP6 research project “CLAVIER – Climate Change and Variability: Impact on Central and Eastern Europe”, contract no. 037013 (2006-2009).

Winter rape is susceptible to damage caused by D. reticulatum (O. F. Müller) mainly in the early phases of the plants’ development. The degree of damage and the size of yield losses depend on the slug population and the grazing activity, which are governed by many environmental factors. Laboratory studies were performed to analyse the rate and amount of damage to rape plants (2–3 leaf stage) caused by D. reticulatum, and the effect of temperature and soil humidity on the slug’s grazing activity. With increasing air temperature (up to 16°C) the amount of damage increased, but the effect was not lasting. The slugs were also active at low temperatures (+1°C), and although their grazing was less intense, the amount of damage after seven days could reach an average of 34%. In laboratory tests, the soil humidity had no marked effect on the amount of damage done by the slugs.

Opis:
The paper contains a preliminary analysis of the links between the portion fc of functional PS2 reaction centres in the photosynthetic apparatus of marine phytoplankton and environmental factors. The analysis is based inter alia on fluorometric measurements of fc (see Kolber & Falkowski 1993) in water sampled from different depths and trophic types of sea. From the statistical generalisations was derived an analytical form of the relationship between fc, and the optical depth and trophic type of sea (the trophicity index was taken to be the surface concentration of chlorophyll a). According to this relationship, fc rises as the trophicity of the sea does so. Moreover, there is a certain optimal optical depth for each type of water at which the number of functional PS2 reaction centres reaches a maximum. Above or below this depth the value of fc falls. At the present stage of investigations it seems reasonable to assume that this drop in the number of functional PS2 reaction centres close to the surface is due to the destructive effect of excessive irradiance. On the other hand, their reduced number at greater depths, below the fc maximum, can be attributed to the deficit of light and the consequent destruction of reaction centres.

Opis:
The results of plant breeding trials with populations of fodder pea strains and broad bean hybrids were the basis of consideration on the interrelationship between some traits - the yield structure elements. Developed by Eaton, a relatively new method of yield component analysis called the two-dimensional partitioning method (TDP) was applied to analyse the data. The method, which combines multiple regression and ANOVA, allows for concise tabular presentation and simple interpretation of the distribution of traits in one direction and the sources of variance according to ANOVA model in the other direction. Additionally, the interpretation of the results was supported by such standard statistical techniques as ANOVA, simple and multiple regression and path analysis. The main components of pea yielding were plant height and the number of pods per plant. Among the analysed characters of broad bean the number of nodes with pods on the main stem, which turned out to be the determinant of broad bean yielding, might be strongly affected by environmental conditions. The number of nodes with pods might be considered a selecting character of high potential yielding of broad bean genotypes.
