    Opis:
    Road transportation is playing an important role in almost all freight movements and contributes to the economy. It has the highest share in the modal division of transported goods. This situation is not about to change in the coming years. Therefore, it is necessary to change the current situation and modify rules and regulations, which could lead to a decrease in the number of accidents in either the EU or the USA. This paper identifies and compares different safety measures, rules and regulations governing the safety of truck transport in the EU and the USA. The number of accidents is a good safety indicator. Finally, suggestions for improvements in terms of truck drivers’ safety in the EU and the USA are proposed.

    Opis:
    The construction industry in India is the second most important contributor to its gross domestic product. However, high rate of accidents and fatalities have tarnished the image of industry in India. Although the industry contributes significantly to the Indian economy, safety management is the primary concern alongside with frequent workplace accidents. The role of safety management is vital to improve safety performance of an organization. The functions of safety management include planning, organizing, staffing, directing, controlling and coordinating safety activities with an aim to minimize accidents/injuries. Safety trainings, employee participation, compliance of safety procedures and motivational schemes are part of safety management which influences the overall safety performance. Several metrics were developed to measure the safety performance of an organization but not a single measure will reflect the overall performance. The present study considered parameters pertaining to the safety management which have influence on the safety performance of a construction organization in India. The parameters are analyzed by formulating a goal programming model. The results of the study suggests that much improvement is needed in the area of safety trainings and the revised targets were established.

    Opis:
    This study investigated workers’ perceptions of workplace safety in an African work environment, specifically in Ghanaian work places. Workers’ safety perceptions were examined with Hayes et al.’s. (1998) Work Safety Scale. Comparative analyses were done between high- and low-accident groups, and t tests were employed to test for differences of statistical significance. Relative to their colleagues in the low-accident category, workers in the high-accident category exhibited negative perceptions on safety. They had negative perceptions regarding work safety, safety programmes, supervisors, and co-workers’ contributions. Besides, they expressed less job satisfaction and were less committed to safety management policies. Perceptions regarding management’s attitude towards safety between the 2 groups were not of statistical significance. The analyses provided an explanation for the cause of a substantial portion of the high rate of industrial accidents in Ghana’s work environment. Implications for safety management are discussed.

    Opis:
    With the background of general characteristics of forests in Poland, the objective and scope of innovativeness has been discussed in economy, including forest economy, and in work safety management. Special attention has been paid to the specific nature of noxiousness of work in a highly varied work environment, which often times extremely unfavourably increases health risk, or even poses hazard to life of the employees in the forestry process. Implementing the issues of innovativeness in forestry should be related to the current achievements in science and to technical progress, with a view on the necessity of eliminating or effective reducing accidents in the works related to acquiring raw timber.
    Na tle ogólnej charakterystyki lasów w Polsce omówione zostały cel i zakres innowacyjności w gospodarce, w tym w gospodarce leśnej i zarządzaniu bezpieczeństwem pracy. Szczególną uwagę zwrócono na specyfikę uciążliwości wykonywanych zajęć ze strony zróżnicowanego środowiska pracy, które niejednokrotnie w sposób szczególnie niekorzystny wpływają na wzrost zagrożenia zdrowia, a nawet życia pracowników w procesie użytkowania lasu. Wdrażanie problematyki innowacyjności w leśnictwie powinno nawiązywać do bieżących osiągnięć nauki i postępu technicznego, zwracając przy tym uwagę na konieczność eliminowania względnie znacznego ograniczania wypadkowości w pracach związanych z pozyskiwaniem surowca drzewnego.
