Opis:
The article presents test results related to evaluation of work performance ability of maintenance workers. The test results are part of the innovative research method serving for measurement of perceived service quality and work ability of maintenance workers. The aim of the method is to identify which of the issues in question have the largest meaning in workers’ opinion and how they are evaluated. The method supports selection of these issues, evaluation of which should be improved first of all, on the base of mutual evaluation value and weight. Due to the above, the effective improvement of work conditions of maintenance workers is possible. The questionnaire survey was carried out on the sample of 25 maintenance employees at various levels in one of enterprises from automobile industry. The most important problems occurring within the maintenance department operation have been identified and in consequence recommendations for their correction have been stated.
W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań dotyczące oceny możliwości wykonywania pracy przez pracowników utrzymania ruchu. Wyniki badań stanowią cześć nowatorskiej metody badawczej, służącej mierzeniu postrzeganej jakości usług i możliwości pracy pracowników utrzymania ruchu. Celem metody jest zidentyfikowanie, które z poruszanych zagadnień mają zdaniem pracowników największe znaczenie i w jaki sposób są oceniane. Metoda wspomaga wybór tych zagadnień, których ocenę należy poprawić w pierwszej kolejności na podstawie wzajemnych wartości oceny oraz istotności. Dzięki temu możliwa jest efektywna poprawa warunków pracy pracowników działu utrzymania ruchu. Badanie ankietowe przeprowadzono na próbie 25 pracowników utrzymania ruchu różnych szczebli w jednym z przedsiębiorstw branży motoryzacyjnej. Zidentyfikowano najważniejsze problemy występujące w pracy działu utrzymania ruchu, a w efekcie sformułowano zalecenia służące ich poprawie.

Introduction. Ability to work is most often defined as a relationship between a person’s resources and requirements specific to a particular type of work. It is the result of interaction between job requirements in terms of physical and mental strain, capabilities and skills of the employee, as well as his/her health condition and own evaluation of functioning in a given organizational and social situation. Objective. The primary objective of the study was to evaluate the current value of the Work Ability Index (WAI) in a sample of employees in Poland. Materials and method. The study sample was selected purposefully from 422,000 employees covered by the largest occupational health provider in Poland. The standard WAI questionnaire provided by CAWI (Computer-Assisted Web Interview) methodology was voluntary and completed anonymously by 688 employees within 12 months (0.16% response rate). The results were statistically analyzed using the Pearson’s chi-squared test and correlation coefficient, independent- sample T test and one-way analysis of variance (p < 0.05). Results. It was found that the average value of WAI was 37.5 ± 7.7, and 37% of the participants represented low to moderate ability to work. The results showed no significant correlation between the WAI value and its 7 compounds and demographic variables. Nonetheless, a dependency between WAI level and industrial branch was observed. Conclusions. Subjects with moderate and low WAI (1/3 of the study population) had particular indications to implement prophylactic actions, especially for the health care employees and civil servants, whose ability to work may be subject to accelerated deterioration.

Objectives: Prevention of job loss is an essential objective of cardiovascular rehabilitation. However, comprehensive and economic diagnostic instruments on work limitations are missing. The present study describes development of short form questionnaires from 2 domains of the WCIB-Cardio item banks for the assessment of work capacity in cardiovascular rehabilitation patients. Materials and Methods: 283 cardiovascular rehabilitation patients were recruited from 14 German rehabilitation clinics. Based on the WCIB-Cardio with the domains of cognitive and physical work capacity, we developed a short form for both domains. Item selection criteria were content coverage, content appropriateness, internal consistency reliability (≥ 0.8). We used correlation of person location scores of the short forms with person location scores of the full item banks to examine the extent of measurement precision. Results: For each domain of the WCIB-Cardio a short form was developed (cognitive work capacity - 14 items; physical work capacity 7 - items). In both domains psychometric properties were good (person separation index: cognitive work capacity - 0.80; physical work capacity - 0.80). Correlation measures of the short form with the full item banks showed a high accordance of person locations for both domains (cognitive work capacity: r = 0.97; physical work capacity: r = 0.95). Conclusions: The calibrated instrument WCIB-Cardio provides the possibility to develop short form questionnaires with high psychometric quality. These short forms make it possible to monitor patient's work capacity in cardiovascular rehabilitation settings in a more economical way.

The main aim of the article is to present the results of the surveys conducted among the graduates of the specialist course for police operations commanders at the Police Academy in Szczytno, who participated in the course in 2014–2020. The course uses a tool of modern technology in the form of a simulator of Police operations in crisis situations. The essence of the research was, therefore, to verify the impact of simulation training as part of a specialist course for commanders of police actions and operations on the real scope and manner of tasks performed by its graduates, i.e. on commanding actual police activities to ensure and maintain public safety and order during mass events, in including sports events, public gatherings and celebrations, and other collective disturbances of public order. It should be emphasised that due to the often signifi cant lapse of time after the end of the course, the respondents formulated their opinions based on subsequent experiences and analysis of actual facts, in the context of knowledge and skills acquired during the training.

Opis:
The main objective of the paper is to state whether the evaluation criteria of managerial roles in judiciary administration suit the specificity of these roles. The first part of the paper presents the concept of systematic approach to organizational behavior and underlines the need of watching the criteria of assessment of managers’ performance with the tasks they perform. The second part of the article focuses on the results of the Authors’ researches, conducted among three groups of managers: directors, managers of divisions and managers of secretariats. In all three groups efficiency criteria were given priority – meeting the deadlines set and acting in compliance with formal procedures. Less frequently applied criteria were: evenness of delegating tasks to subordinates considering the competences of employees who are to compete the delegated tasks. The list of the evaluation criteria includes also the least frequently used ones, i.e. knowledge sharing and motivating employees with the tools tailored to their tasks and organizational environment.

There has been a long-standing discussion in Poland about the efficient and effective functioning of the social welfare and integration system. The transformations it has been undergoing for years in connection with the possibilities of benefiting from the EU funds and as a results of its attempted reforms and rationalisation demonstrate that the issue of professionalising the social worker profession is actually of little interest to anybody, despite the fact that this is a regulated profession with quite a strong presence in the current scientific discourse. If performed in a professional manner, methodical social work is a very important tool which may significantly contribute to increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of social interventions, thereby improving the quality of the public sphere in this segment. In this context, an important role is played by evaluation, understood as analysing the value of a specific action – with reference to social projects and programmes. Of particular importance here is the latest generation evaluation, which makes use of action research, thereby increasing the chances to raise the level of social participation and simultaneously reduce the problem of social exclusion. On the other hand, it is necessary to note the crucial role that evaluation may play in reinforcing and sustaining the professional identity of social workers, especially in the face of the constant changes and reforms of the social welfare system.

Introduction. Weed control is one of the most important issues in the maintenance sectors of both agriculture and green areas. Small tools are employed for controlling grass and other growths on steep verges and river banks. This leads the operators being exposed to many risks among which vibration is one. The purpose of this study is to measure and evaluate hand-arm vibration and to verify the daily exposure to which workers are often subjected while weeding. Materials and method. Two cutting heads, a brush knife and a mowing head were compared. Both were mounted on the same cow-horn brush cutter. The vibration total value was expressed as the root-mean-square (rms) of three component values according to the axes X, Y and Z. The signal was frequency weighted using the weighting curve Wh, as described in the ISO 5349–1 (2001) standard. In addition, the daily vibration exposure was calculated and compared with the thresholds set by EU Directive 2002/44/EC (2005). Results. The obtained results showed that the exposure action value (EAV) of 2.5 ms-2 was exceeded while using both cutting heads. The exposure limit value (ELV) using the brush knife also exceeded 5 ms-2. Conclusions. The results highlighted important aspects in terms of exposure values that should be considered with the view of preventing the risk of Hand-Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS) to which the operators who frequently use these tools are exposed. Specific measures should therefore be taken to protect the exposed workers.

This paper is focused on peer review used by schools as a potential means of support for mutual learning and the development of staff professionalism. It is based on empirical material obtained from The Road to Quality Improvement1, a Czech national project designed to support self-evaluation in schools. Data from 32 schools were collected by questionnaire surveys, interviews, focus groups and document analysis. Main findings are as follows: (1) a prerequisite for successful peer review is previous experience of evaluation activities and work with data; (2) peer review develops participants’ sensitivity in terms of the need for the development of evaluation skills; (3) evaluation activities and work with data develop participants’ professionalism and their potential to contribute to school development.

Cold is a typical environmental risk factor in outdoor work in northern regions. It should be taken into account in a company’s occupational safety, health and quality systems. A development process for improving cold risk management at the Finnish Maritime Administration (FMA) was carried out by FMA and external experts. FMA was to implement it. Three years after the development phase, the outcomes and implementation were evaluated. The study shows increased awareness about cold work and few concrete improvements. Concrete improvements in occupational safety and health practices could be seen in the pilot group. However, organization-wide implementation was insufficient, the main reasons being no organization-wide practices, unclear process ownership, no resources or a major reorganization process. The study shows a clear need for expertise supporting implementation. The study also presents a matrix for analyzing the process.
