The authors performed laboratory investigations and the analysis of the transformation of deep-water waves in the flume of the Institute of Hydro-Engineering. Special wave trains were generated by our piston-type wavemaker. Due to the transformation the wave profiles changed along the path of propagation. At first, the changes appeared at the ends of the wave train. Far from the generator they intruded into the middle interval of initially regular waves. Finally, the whole wave train consisted of a set of irregular groups. To study the instability problem the wave trains were modulated by superposition of wave groups with very small amplitudes. The number of waves in a group was a very important parameter. When the number was proper, even small amplitudes of modulation resulted in strong development of amplitudes of wave groups. In our theoretical analysis the non-linear Schroedinger equation was used. The comparison of laboratory and theoretical results proved that this equation is useful but it does not describe the phenomenon in the best way. There have been many attempts to construct a numerical procedure that describes the propagation of water waves. Very often the numerical algorithm is not stable and the results of calculation diverge from the expected behaviour. The authors believe that in many cases the instability is due to the physical loss of stability of the wave train and thus it is necessary to have a good understanding of the physics of the studied motion.

Opis:
The research was conducted on samples of water in Kielce from two intakes: Białogon and Zagnańsk. The results of selected indicators for these waters were presented, among others, the most important ones influencing its chemical stability i.e. calcium or magnesium. Then, using the PHREEQC program, stability indices were calculated for water in Kielce from the two shots in question. In the next stage, the correctness of the water test method was checked by means of a program through the ionic balance of the water and comparison of pH of the water determined with the value determined by calculation. For the above mentioned activities, tables and calculations were prepared on the basis of which appropriate conclusions were made.
Badania przeprowadzono na próbkach wody w Kielcach pochodzące z dwóch ujęć: Białogon i Zagnańsk. Przedstawiono wyniki wybranych wskaźników dla tych wód, m.in. najważniejszych wpływających na ich stabilność chemiczną, tj. wapnia lub magnezu. Następnie, za pomocą programu PHREEQC, obliczono wskaźniki stabilności dla wód w Kielcach z dwóch ujęć, o których mowa. W kolejnym etapie sprawdzono poprawność metody badania wody za pomocą programu poprzez bilans jonowy wody i porównanie pH wyznaczonej wody z wartością wyznaczoną w wyniku obliczeń. Dla wyżej wymienionych czynności przygotowano tabele i obliczenia, na podstawie których wyciągnięto odpowiednie wnioski.

One of the most frequently implemented processes in the water treatment technology is filtration through a biosorption bed. The techniques based on biochemical processes involving bacteria result in obtaining high quality of water. There are a number of different materials used as the filler material for biological filters. Carbon deposits are the most popular, due to their high effectiveness. The problem with the use of this process is the leaching of microorganisms from the biofilm and the biological stability of water thus obtained. There is a need to develop quick methods to assess the microbiological quality of this water. Modern techniques for determining the amount of microorganisms, such as flow cytometry and luminometry may be the right tools. The water collected for testing came from the Water Treatment Station located in the Podkarpackie voivodeship. The microbiological tests carried out in the analyzed water samples collected after the filtration process on granular activated carbon. Both traditional culture method and modern techniques used to determine the number of microorganisms (flow cytometry, luminometric ATP assay) demonstrated an increase in the number of microorganisms in the examined waters (in the water after the filtration process and in the water introduced into the water supply network) after the incubation process for 3 and 7 days at 15 and 22°C.

The emulsion explosive is one of the important industrial explosives.The structural stability of the water-in-oil (W/O) emulsion matrix of an emulsion ex plosive determines the reliability of its initiation, safety and detonation performance. It is known that the emulsifier is one of the most important factors affecting W/O structural stability. In this paper, several emulsifiers with the functionalities of imide, amide, ester, salt, and sorbin monooleate (SMO) were selected. From the perspective of the rheological properties, the effects of the emulsifier structure and its functionality on the viscosity and visco-elastic properties of the emulsion matrix were analyzed and researched. The results show that emulsifiers with imide/amide functionality and their corresponding emulsion matrixes have higher viscosity at normal temperatures and better fluidity at high temperatures than those of the others. The linear visco-elastic region (LVR) for emulsion matrixes containing these emulsifiers is wider than that of the others. The effect of a change in ambient temperature on the viscosity for a complex emulsifier is small. The emulsion matrix containing the emulsifier named LZ2727B is the most stable, followed by the emulsifier named LZ2727D. This conclusion is consistent with the conclusions from tension tests and from high and low temperature cycling experiments. From the emulsifiers studied in this paper, LZ2727B and LZ2727D emulsifiers are very suitable for manufacturing packaged emulsion explosives. On the other hand emulsifiers based on SMO functionalities, named LZ2731 and LZ2735, are the best choices for manufacturing bulk emulsion explosives.

The aircraft dynamic stability derivatives (DSD) describe the variation of aerodynamics forces and moments with respect to disturbances of kinematic parameters (translational or rotational). The knowledge of DSD is important due to determination of aircraft dynamic stability characteristics. Thus, the identification of DSD is an issue of analytical or numerical analysis and experimental researches. Experimental methods use air or water tunnel tests. The investigated model is submitted to forced oscillations with relatively low amplitude, which simulates the disturbances around steady state flight parameters. The variation of forces and moments are measured by strain balance system, which allows identifying DSD. This work is focused on development the methodology of experimental identification the aircraft translational DSD in water tunnel tests. Study of available publications shows that model manipulator system usually provides rotational movements around three axes. Therefore, the measurements can be performed with respect to rotational velocity disturbances. However, by addition the translational manipulator with one degree of freedom the measurements can be expanded into translational velocity disturbances (normal and sideslip). It is necessary to point that axial velocity disturbance is omitted due to lack of axial force component in strain balance construction. The proposed modification does not affect the construction of rotational manipulator or balance. The article contains translational manipulator scheme, modification of data acquisition system and mathematical process of identification the aircraft translational dynamic stability derivatives.

The main goal of this work is to show the new approach to determining safety technological levels (SLs) in terms of water quality and its chemical stability, as well as issues of water corrosion properties in water distribution systems (WDSs), due to the fact that water supply pipes are prone to corrosion. In the paper the methodology of determining the risk associated with threat to technical infrastructure was considered. The concept was studied on the basis of real operational data from the water treatment plant. The probability of exceeding the individual parameters for WTPI is slightly larger than for WTPII, which means that this water treatment process may cause lack of chemical stability in the water supply network. Operators should anticipate in the process of designing water distribution system, using proper materials, as to ensure an adequate level of safety from the water source to the water recipient. It should be noted that it is necessary to adjust the material of internal installation of water supply networks to the parameters of the water. At present, there are no correlations between the designing step and water parameters. It was concluded that to protect the water supply infrastructure, which belongs to critical infrastructure, water company should put more emphasis on distribution of stable water that has not potentially corrosion properties. Some suggestions were made for the protection of WDS and to ensure safety of system functioning and long-term usability of water pipes.
Głównym celem pracy jest przedstawienie nowego podejścia do określania poziomów technologicznych bezpieczeństwa (SL) w zakresie jakości wody i jej stabilności chemicznej, a także właściwości korozyjnych wody w systemach dystrybucji wody (WDS), ze względu na fakt, iż przewody wodociągowe są podatne na korozję. W pracy przedstawiono metodologię określania ryzyka związanego z wystąpieniem zagrożeń dla infrastruktury technicznej. Analiza została wykonana na podstawie uzyskanych danych eksploatacyjnych ze stacji uzdatniania wody. Prawdopodobieństwo przekroczeń poszczególnych parametrów w przypadku WTPI jest nieznacznie większe od WTPII, co oznacza iż ten proces uzdatniania wody może powodować brak zachowania stabilności chemicznej w sieci wodociągowej. Operatorzy powinni przewidzieć w procesie projektowania systemu dystrybucji wody, użycie odpowiednich materiałów, tak aby zapewnić odpowiedni poziom bezpieczeństwa od źródła wody do odbiorcy. Należy zauważyć, że niezbędne jest dostosowanie materiału wewnętrznej instalacji sieci wodociągowej do parametrów wody nie odwrotnie. W chwili obecnej nie ma korelacji pomiędzy etapem projektowania, a parametrami wody. W celu ochrony infrastruktury wodociągowej, które należą do infrastruktury krytycznej, przedsiębiorstwo wodociągowe powinna położyć większy nacisk na dystrybucję stabilnej wody, która nie ma właściwości korozyjnych. W pracy zaproponowano podjęcie działań zapewniających ochronę systemu dystrybucji wody przed utratą stabilności chemicznej wody.

Aiming at a closed-loop water system of HVAC engineering, the authors put forward an evaluation method of systems' stability based on sensitivity. It has three evaluating indexes: [alfa] - the summation of flow changes in other subcircuits influenced by resistance change in a certain subcircuit [Beta] - the summation of flow changes in a certain sub circuit influenced by resistance changes in other subcircuits; [gamma] - average [Beta] (or [alfa]) value of each subcircuit, reflecting the strength of regulating interference between subcircuits. The method is used to analyze the stability of a reverse return system (RRS) and a direct return system (DRS). The DRS subcircuit farthest from the heat source and the middle RRS are the least stable. Stability of the whole RRS is inferior to that of the DRS.

The subject of the article concerns the stabilization of communication earthworks using the so-called lightweight retaining structures. The stability of the embankment with the embankment built with the gabion wall is analysed, assuming a uniformly distributed load on the crown and a case of unilateral water pressure in the event of a flood. Final results of stability calculations made with the Fellenius and Bishop method in the form of slip surface with the smallest value of the coefficient were presented. Then, assuming the case of damming up of flood water, discretization of the filtration area, velocity distribution and hydrodynamic grating and slip surfaces were developed. The variable parameter is the wall configuration.

The micro air nucleus widely distributed in the ocean is a necessary condition for the cavitation of hydraulic machinery in seawater. In order to study the stability of air nucleus in seawater and cavitation inception, the computational domain of water molecules with air nucleus was studied using the method of molecular dynamics simulation, and the transient characteristics of air nucleus in liquid water were obtained. The key factors influencing nuclei stability were analyzed. The results showed that air nucleus with a certain mass could maintain the dynamic equilibrium in liquid water. The internal density of air nuclei had a critical value that allowed the nuclei to stably exist in water. The air nuclei mass was the decisive factor in its equilibrium volume in water, and the two were positively correlated. The internal density of air nuclei was negatively correlated with the nuclei radius when the nuclei was stable in water. Liquid surface tension was an important factor affecting the stability of the air nuclei. The larger the initial radius of nuclei, the smaller the water pressure, and the more likely the cavitation occurs.

Polysaccharide depressants play a crucial role in the flotation of sulfidic PGM bearing ores as they prevent naturally floatable gangue (NFG) from reporting to the concentrate. This action is regarded as critically important because less dilution of the concentrate means lower costs for downstream processes. However, abnormal water conditions such as high concentrations of ions in the flotation system can modify the selectivity of these depressants. It is well known that the existence of selected electrolytes in water can alter the behaviour of some polysaccharide depressants by enhancing their adsorption onto gangue minerals and thereby prevent naturally floatable gangue from moving into the froth phase. Concurrently these same electrolytes may enhance frothability owing to their stabilising effect on the bubbles within the system. Plant water at various ionic strengths was investigated against sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) dosages in order to understand electrolyte-depressant interactive effects during the flotation of a Merensky ore in a batch flotation cell, using entrainment, rate of NFG recovery, and total gangue recovery as proxies. The study showed that the NFG recovery per unit mass of water decreased with increasing ionic strength at all CMC dosages, however the total amount of gangue reporting to the concentrate increased with increasing ionic strength at all CMC dosages. Thus, this paper considers the effects of both ionic strength and CMC dosage within flotation. It further investigates whether any interactive effects exist between froth stability and entrainment when considered simultaneously.

The interaction of inorganic electrolytes with reagents in the flotation of sulphidic PGM bearing ores is not well explored. It has been shown that specific inorganic electrolytes such as Ca2+ and SO42- can affect the wettability of gangue minerals. These could also hinder the adsorption of collectors onto valuable minerals and concurrently enhance or retard froth stability. This presents a challenge as regards understanding what the overarching or controlling mechanisms of interaction between electrolytes, reagents and minerals are as well as predicting how flotation performance will be affected. This review shows that studies in literature have simplified the question of electrolyte-reagent-mineral interactions and that current approaches have not provided fundamental solutions to the challenge of water quality. It is proposed that the complexity of the flotation system requires an in-depth knowledge of the individual electrolyte-reagent-mineral interactions so as to establish whether there are any dominant or synergistic interactions. Such in-depth knowledge should enable the development of pulp chemistry control measures against water quality variations in flotation.
