Opis:
The growing interest of enterprises in development in the directions of the concept of sustainable development or corporate social responsibility somehow forced market participants to be more flexible in their actions. Entities from the waste industry must quickly adapt to changing, dynamic realities in order to maintain an appropriate position on the market. The aim and subject of the publication is to present the impact of waste quality on the construction of a sustainable waste management model. The quality of waste determines whether a given waste processing product meets the expectations and standards of the final recipient, as well as the costs of its final management or recycling. The article also presents waste in the light of the applicable national and European Union regulations as well as sustainable development in the aspect of industrial waste management.

Opis:
The European Union produces about 18 million tons of waste from meat industry per year. The real danger of the BSE disease caused a necessity of looking for a new alternative solution of meat waste management. The proposed solution of meat industry waste management would create meat production waste free with the use of the cleaner production method. Cleaner production includes: pollution prevention, reduction of the source, recovery of materials and energy (for example: the recovery of blood plasma and protein hydrolisate from bone sludge) and their recycling. The thermal processing of meat industrial waste (bone sludge, meat-bone meal and odour) is anticipated, too. Ashes from meat calcining have the phosphorus content close to its concentration, of the typical phosphoric raw materials. That confirmed the possibility of using such ashes as the substitute of phosphoric raw materials. The target model of waste free meat waste management included the results of the implemented and current research.

Opis:
The circular economy model assumes active participation of producers and consumers in two big loops (cycles): biological and technical. Without involvement from both these groups of economic entities, it is not possible to close the circulation of materials for the purpose of their economic use for as long as possible. The paper discusses theoretical and practical aspects of the application of economic incentives, stimulating departure from the linear model of the economy for the circular one in municipal waste management. As a result, maximizing the efficiency of raw materials use and maintaining materials in the economic cycle should be simpler and cheaper than consumption of primary resources.

Opis:
The objective of this research is the application of a quantification model of C&D waste, elaborated by the autors in precedent researches, to quantify the C&D waste generated in the construction of 2-storey spanish dwellings. A practical example has been carried out on ten dwellings in Sevilla Spain, thereby allowing the identification and quantification of the C&D waste generated in their construction and its environmental condition. This reference model enables: other researchers to establish comparisons between the various improvements proposed for the minimization of the environmental impact produced in construction; new corrective measures can be proposed in future policy plans that regulate the production and management of C&D waste in construction.

Opis:
Post-disaster waste management is one of the most crucial tasks in the recovery phase of the disaster cycle, and it was created to assist affected communities in returning to a stable state following a disaster. To develop an efficient post-disaster waste management strategy, this study presents a multi-objective two-stage stochastic mixed integer linear programming model for post-disaster waste management. The proposed mathematical model was developed based on a mixed strategy of on-site and off-site waste separation in the supply chain. This study aims to minimize not only the total cost and the environmental impact to provide waste flow decisions and choose collection and separation sites, recycling sites, landfill sites, and incineration sites throughout the supply chain under the uncertain situation. To solve a multi-objective problem, a normalized weighted sum method is used to find the solution. A numerical case based on realistic data is presented to validate and verify the proposed model. Based on the numerical example, the results demonstrated that the implementation of the mixed strategy for waste separation with the consideration of uncertain situations can reduce the total cost, balance the environmental impact, and determine the unexpected situation in the post-disaster waste supply chain efficiently.

Opis:
runs are achieved when the highest flow through the most recently backwashed filter and the highest available head loss coincide. This rule has previously been published by Dąbrowski, who used a simplified mathematical model of VDR filters developed by Di Bernardo. However, until now no experimental verification of this optimisation approach has been presented. A series of tests were carried out on a laboratory VDR filter plant, using a suspension collected from an industrial sedimentation tank and using alum as a coagulant. The results of the experiments were compared with computations carried out according to a combined unit bed element (UBE)-phenomenological model of deep bed filtration adapted to VDR operation by Mackie and Zhao. It was confirmed that the longest filtration runs did indeed correspond to the pairs of the highest H and q1/qavr. The UBE-phenomenological model of deep bed filtration gave results of computations quite close to experimental results and improved the accuracy of calculations based on the theoretical model by Di Bernardo.
