Opis:
In this paper, the force transfer mechanism of three mechanical elements “inerter, spring and damper” is analyzed based on the “force-current” analogy theory. The vibration isolation performance of the two types of simple three-element vehicle suspensions S1 (inerter is in parallel with damper) and S2 (inerter is in series with damper) are studied. The dual-mass system model of the suspensions is built by means of using the mechanical impedance method. The influence of parameters variation on vibration transfer characteristics is also investigated.

The article presents the results of experimental research carried out for different types of diesel engine suspension cushions (plate connectors) in two all-terrain cars. The study was performed using three types of engines in three combustion engines operating conditions. The analyzed parameters were transverse displacement engine vibrations caused during various engine operating conditions between the engine and body of the vehicle. The results of the tests of different types of plate connectors for engine suspension can be useful when designing propulsion systems for military vehicles and military utility all-terrain cars, or as shown by the author [4,5] to modernize the existing military vehicles. Vibrations transmitted to the body chassis can also have a significant impact on the operation of the vehicle mounted equipment and weaponry.

The issue of passive safety of pregnant women travelling by car has been discussed. The pregnant woman’s body has been considered as a complex dynamic system subject to various impacts that take place during a car ride. In the field of motorization, much attention is paid (and rightly so) to the issue of safety of pregnant women travelling by car in consideration of road accidents. Motor vehicle accidents are the most important cause of death of pregnant women, according to data published by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). In the USA, about 130 000 pregnant women being in the second half of their pregnancy are annually involved in motor vehicle accidents. In this paper, some example solutions have been presented that are to improve the passive safety of riding in a motor car, including those proposed to minimize the injuries that may be sustained in result of an accident. The issue of the possible negative effects of a road accident or collision on a pregnant woman has also been raised. The application of virtual techniques has been discussed and examples of modelling a pregnant woman have been shown. Some research results concerning the deceleration values that might be dangerous for pregnant women have been given, with reference having been made to statistical data on fatal accidents.

Opis:
The methodology of research and the inspection of the main transmission gearboxes of multi axles armoured vehicle ROSOMAK under operating conditions are described in this article. Tests are carried out on the bench to allow force transmission changes to the extent similar to the loads that occur during vehicle operation. Transmission gear boxes are driven by an internal combustion engine 359 through a reducer (standard engine gearbox). This reducer increase torque and decrease shaft speed similar to condition in the vehicle. On the other side of the transmission, multiplying gearbox coupled with a brake dynamometer were placed. It increases speed according to requirements of the work field of the dynamometer W-230. The combustion engine made possible to measure vibration of transmission gearboxes under the high torque. The torque is greater than obtainable by using electric motors. The value of the inertia moment loading axle shaft was determined using a simplified kinematic diagram. During the tests, vibration were measured at selected points of the housing using different methods of attachment of vibration transducers. First, the screw for assembling the vibration sensor was glued to the hull of gearbox. Second, the sensor was connected with gearbox by permanent magnets. Third, the sensor was used as a hand probe. The results of vibration measured by these methods were compared. Temperature of the gearbox was also measured by using thermocouples and thermovision methods. Selected results are presented and analysed of vibration transmission and its temperature at selected working conditions.

Opis:
This paper presents a study of vibrations appearing in a vehicle in the process of its operation. The authors describe the primary source of the vibrations and their propagation in the entire structure. The observations were performed on the passenger cars with various gasoline and diesel engines. The aim was to examine the level of damping factor in the different locations in the car, precisely specified for the purpose of this studies. The secondary goal was to develop an effective method of obtaining and analyzing signals generated during the engine operation. The chosen instrument was Laser Doppler Vibrometer (LDV), which is used as the non-intrusive measurement utensil to detect velocity variations in designated places. The signals are gathered and collected as group of sinusoidal characteristics in the time domain. In order to achieve specific information about every component of the original signal, the authors apply Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) as the analyzing method. It allows to distinct the basic sinusoidal characteristics in the frequency domain through the spectral analysis. Based on the results, the authors are able to distinguish the dominant modes from the complex signal and indicate their impact on the car.

Opis:
Combustion engines drive motor vehicles, which are commonly used, and their efficiency does not exceed forty per cent. It is hard to accept such a waste of energy nowadays when there is less and less fossil fuel and the ecological norms are being tightened. That is why hybrid power transmission systems and systems for energy recuperation - especially kinetic, so far being lost – are becoming more popular. One of such solutions is a unit to recover energy from a driver's seat vibration in a motor vehicle. It allows changing the kinetic energy of the vibrating seat into the electric one. Such a unit is installed under the driver's seat and supports the gaseous shock absorber. The unit consists of two toothed bars, coupled by two pairs of gear wheels, which drive the alternating current generator rotor. The rotor is joined with a driving shaft by one-way centrifugal clutches. One bar drives the rotor while the seat moves down and the other - while the seat moves up. The rotor is equipped with permanent magnets, which, by rotation, induce the power in the stator's winding. The generated power goes through the voltage stabilizing and rectification systems (4.75-5.25 V) and charges four batteries connected to USB output. The obtained electric energy may be used to supply other electronic devices, e.g. mobile phones. The unit will be installed in a farm tractor. The research checking the unit's effectiveness will be carried out in the near future.

The effects of vibration transmissibility using high order biodynamic models of four, five and seven degrees of freedom that can replicate a human body exposed to vibration transmissibility while driving was investigated to identify resonant frequencies associated with injury. It was found that these models address vehicle seat deformities and represent the body hop motion when driving. The five degree of freedom models provided the best results to approximate resonant frequencies associated with the legs, lower torso, spine and whole body vibration at the seat person interface, while the driver's hands were on the steering and was supported with a backrest. The four degree of freedom model excluding the backrest was able to replicate experimental data and a sensitivity analysis of the stiffness and damping parameters indicated that this model was more robust compared to the others, and could predict whole body vibration to accommodate for intra subject variability. Non-linear damping and stiffness properties were noticed for acceleration magnitudes greater than 1g root mean square (rms) and for high order models, which provide greater anatomical description to predict injury in contrast to simple models that have large lumped masses to represent the upper and lower torso. In addition, biodynamic models greater than seven degrees of freedom can be utilised with non-linear stiffness and damping techniques to predict vibration and impedance behaviour for greater number of body ligaments applied to old seats or retrofit seat design applications.

The main objective of the research presented in this paper is to enhance driver-passengers Comfort of a vehicle that in turn leads to better vehicle safety and stability. The focus was put on studying the interior vibration and noise contributions originated from tire-road and engine-transmission subsystems, due to their significant impact on the dynamic performance of the vehicle. The noise and vibration measurements were recorded at the driver’s head position and on the driver legs room. Furthermore, the influence of different tire types and road surface textures on the vehicle interior noise and vibration were considered. The results indicate that the widely used conventional engine mounts and tires in commercial vehicles cannot fulfill the conflicting requirements for the best isolation concerning both road surface and engine-transmission induced excitations. The values of driver’s head position sound pressure level and floor vibration acceleration broadband averages originate for engine-transmission are lower than that for tire-road interaction. Furthermore, the values of RMS, crest factor, kurtosis and IRI for the vehicle waveform were estimated for vehicle speeds, tire types and road surface textures. Moreover, the percentage contribution for both interior noise and vibration originated from tire-road interaction is higher than the one from vehicle engine-transmission system in all the vehicle speed range, tire type and road surface texture considered.

This paper deals with the influence of parameters of the lateral suspension on the ride quality of railway vehicles during running on a track with lateral deviations, compared to the designing geometry. The ride quality is evaluated at speed 200 km/h, based on lateral accelerations in three reference points of the vehicle carbody. The values corresponding to these accelerations are derived from numerical simulations on a non-linear model of the vehicle with 21 degrees of freedom. The results thus obtained validate a series of features in vibrational behaviour of the railway vehicle and the possibility to improve the ride quality by the best possible selection of the suspension parameters.

Variant of the test bench construction modernization, which can allow applying typical exploitation loads, which include vertical and lateral components, is described. We propose a scheme of forced oscillations excitation system on the test bench by cam-eccentric mechanism. It includes a DC motor with stepless frequency regulation and with cams of different shape on its shaft, which affect the contact surface of the test bench's vertical H-beam of a rocker arm. We also propose a scheme of forced oscillations excitation system on the test bench by inertial exciter. It includes a DC motor with stepless frequency regulation with inertial vibration exciter on its shaft, which consists of a mass, placed eccentrically relative to the shaft axis. There are two variants of the test bench scheme – with the forced oscillations excitation device and without it.

Opis:
The proper technical condition of a vehicle and rail track in operation is a key aspect in terms of safety and travel comfort. This issue is of particular importance for operators and managers of rolling stock and rail infrastructure. Currently, many diagnostic systems have been developed to monitor the technical condition of selected vehicle systems or rail track from the viewpoints of both the vehicle and track. This article proposes the use of vibration signals in selected quantitative and qualitative analyses as the main diagnostic parameter. For this purpose, over a dozen vibration measurements were carried out during the normal operation of a freight wagon as part of a so-called passive experiment. Measurement points were located on the axle boxes of the wheelsets. The proposed research methodology served as a basis for comparative analyses of the selected operational cases that were investigated. The most important conclusion from the study is that it is possible to monitor the technical condition of vehicles and tracks in real time on the basis of measurements of vibration accelerations at the vehicle level. This directly increases the service life of rolling stock and optimises operating costs by changing the maintenance strategy to one that takes into account the idea of modern on-board technical diagnostics. Another important aspect is the possibility of the varied use of the proposed measurement system, depending on the purpose of the research, which is also associated with the diagnostician’s experience in processing vibroacoustic signals and the utilization of simple or complex quantitative and qualitative analyses.

This paper presents the investigations of vibrations of a vehicle equipped with controlled magneto-rheological (MR) dampers and aerodynamic elements. A scaled sports vehicle model was developed to conduct this research. The tests were carried out with kinematic excitation resulting from road roughness and motion at a variable speed. During the airflow, the aerodynamic elements forces and moments on the test body. Vehicle vibrations are limited by the means of MR controlled dampers. The damping force is determined on the basis of an algorithm, where various strategies for determining forces in MR damper have been adopted. Two criteria were considered for assessing the effectiveness of the control algorithm - minimising vertical acceleration and changes in wheel normal reactions on road surface. This paper presents the results of those studies.
