The aim of the article is focused on assessing the degree of end-of-life for the vehicle front suspension beam. The first stage of the problem taken was represented by a road test of the vehicle at distance expressed by 100.000 km. Following the end of the operation tests, the suspension beam was dismantled and subjected to laboratory tests. The tests demonstrated numerous beam top layer plastic deformations, which came into being as a result of the vehicle driving onto an obstacle on the roadway or onto raised road infrastructure elements. At the point of connection of the stabiliser rod to the beam, surface degradation was noted, which consisted in the considerable change of the surface profile, hardness reduction and the grey and dark brown colour. Corrosion regions and fretting wear traces were noted. Corrosion pits, scratches and material build-ups was observed. The analysis of the chemical composition of wear products demonstrated the presence of elements such as iron, oxygen, chlorine and silicon, as an effect of operational conditions.

Opis:
In this paper a numerical model of a terrain vehicle suspension system development process is presented. In the performed studies the suspension system with and without a simplified motor-car body was taken into consideration. Geometry of the tire, wheel and system elements were achieved using reverse engineering technology. Moreover, with the assistance of a microscope and an X-ray device it was possible to achieve the exact tire cords pattern, which in the next stages was implemented into the FE model. Subsequently, numerical simulations of both cases were performed simulating the TNT explosion under a wheel. The non-linear dynamic analyses were performed using the LS-DYNA code. To solve both presented cases the explicit central difference scheme with modified time integration of the equation of motion was implemented. Computations of blast wave propagation were carried out with the Smooth Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) method with Jones Wilkins Lee (JWL) equation of state defining the explosive material. Obtained results have shown different suspension system elements damage and tire destruction characteristic, which come from blast wave reflection of the motor-car body surface.

The paper shall present results of simulation research studies performed using a simulation model of a vehicle in which ABS and EBS system were taken into consideration as well as hydropneumatic suspension. A decision was made to conduct the simulation studies following three tests: circumferential fixed motion; emergency braking in curvilinear motion; stepping extortion on the steering wheel. As a result of performed simulation studies, more than 30 physical quantities were recorded describing the curvilinear motion of the AFV vehicle. The following were selected for presentation in listings: motion trajectory; progress of the value of lateral and side acceleration of the vehicle centre of inertia; progress of circumferential velocity values of driving wheels (essential at braking); progress of the vehicle velocity values recorded in the vehicle's centre of inertia and in places corresponding to positions of driving wheels; and progress of the values of vertical reaction forces under the driving wheels. Catalogue of the parameters being changed for the simulation is looked up to real objects and trends occurring in the changes being introduced. Paper presents progress of the value ofverticalforce in different conditions and vehicle motion trajectory. It also shows general diagram of hydropneumatic suspension system in view of the vehicle and diagram of hydropneumatic suspension system.

The paper shall present the way for building a model for simulation studies of the wheeled armoured fighting vehicle with hydropneumatic suspension of driving wheels axles. Thus developed model shall be used to conduct simulation studies in the area of the vehicle safety. The scope of terms and conditions for applications of hydropneumatic suspensions in wheeled armoured fighting vehicles is justifled due to a number of their advantages, such as: progressive characteristics of elasticity provides great driving comfort with a small load, as well as apossibility of placing a considerable load on the vehicle (the requirements are mutually exclusive in classical suspension). Compressed nitrogen, sealed in the sphere using an elastic diaphragm, is approximately six-fold more flexible than steel springs elements at static load of the suspension, which provides high level of driving comfort; apossibility to lower the height of the vehicle by changing the road clearance which effects in e.g. higher availability for airborne transport and soon. However, they are not free from disadvantages; therefore, it is the studies of their justified use, especially related to traffic safety, that should have a final say in individual cases. The here to presented model of hydropneumatic suspension and the vehicle motion model are applied to assess dynamic capabilities and evaluate the real object motion safety.

The results of the examination of a vehicle suspension system in the plate position are presented in the paper. The model vehicle is a Fiat Seicento with front independent suspension, McPherson type, with the steering system and with the semitrailing arm in the rear suspension. Identification of the model was made by comparing the simulation results with the results from the test stand. A multibody model of the vehicle will be used in studies of the impact of shock absorber technical conditions on the dynamics of automotive vehicles.
W artykule zaprezentowano przykładowe wyniki badań dynamiki układu zawieszenia pojazdu samochodowego na stanowisku płytowym. Model pojazdu odwzorowuje pojazd marki Fiat Seicento z niezależnym zawieszeniem przednim typu McPherson, z układem kierowniczym oraz wahaczami wleczonymi w zawieszeniu tylnym. Identyfikację modelu przeprowadzono przez porównanie wyników symulacji z wynikami ze stanowiska z wymuszeniem kinematycznym. Zaproponowany wielomasowy model pojazdu zostanie wykorzystany w badaniach wpływu stanu technicznego amortyzatorów pojazdów samochodowych na dynamikę pojazdu.

The main purpose of this study is to design an active vehicle suspension ensuring high vibration isolation efficiency and stability though the limited consumption of external energy. Active systems used in vehicle suspensions widely employ parallel (full active) structures. It shall be analysed and tested experimentally. The major part of the study summarises the laboratory experiments carried on a designed active vehicle suspension in the form of a quarter car model. Apart from the vibration isolation efficiency offered by the designed and engineered suspension, other considered performance indicators include the system's stability and external energy demand. A laboratory model of the suspension is described and laboratory tests are outlined that were performed to check the adequacy of various control algorithms. An attempt is made to evaluate the energy demand for the given structure and to determine the power ratings of the source supplying the active vibration isolation system. Inter alia quarter-vehicle full active suspension, vibration displacement transmissibility in the function of frequency, transmissibility function from the input to the output for various types of actuator’s controllers, comparison of instantaneous power absorbed from the power-supplying unit for various types of actuator's controllers, comparison of instantaneous power intake from the supplying unit for various types of controllers are presented in the paper.

The aim of this paper was to determine the differences in the designed and manufactured model of a suspension. A set of key parameters was compared, including camber and toe in angles and their change w.r.t wheel travel, as well as the motion ratio. It also focused on the possibility of accurately determining the suspension system kinematics using affordable measuring devices available on the market. First, the design process, main goals and project assumptions were briefly described. Next, the CAD model and manufacturing process was presented. Finally, the measurements of both computer and real model were performed. The obtained results were compared and a significant difference between models was observed. The reason of such variation could not be determined unambiguously, as there were numerous factors that could potentially influence the results. Moreover, it was proven that accurate determination of kinematics is impossible using the given set of measuring devices.

The paper presents a methodology of optimizing the parameters of the passive suspension system of a railway vehicle. A linear half-vehicle model and an example of the procedure carried out to optimize a selected parameter of the model have been demonstrated. A method of the selection of damping in the suspension system of a railway vehicle, based on over 40-year achievements of the cited authors of publications in the field of motor vehicles, has been shown. The optimization of linear damping in the secondary suspension system of a passenger carriage moving on a track with random profile irregularities has been described in detail. The algorithms adopted for the calculations have a wider range of applicability; especially, they may be used for determining the optimum values of the other parameters of the railway vehicle model under analysis, i.e. stiffness of the secondary suspension system as well as stiffness and damping of the primary suspension system.

The article is devoted to research of a vehicle ride comfort, equipped the suspension system with combined control of springing and damping elements. The spatial mathematical model of a vehicle which meets the requirements of adequacy to real object was developed. The results of the computer simulation of movement of the vehicle with controllable and passive suspension systems on stochastic microprofile are presented. It can be concluded that the spatial multi-mass model is satisfactory close to a real object and can be used for further calculations. Having analyzed simulation results we can state significant increase of ride comfort of a vehicle equipped with a controlled suspension system. Decrease of vertical acceleration of a cabin in a place where a driver sits amounted to 40% in average that can be considered as a limit value for this type of controlled suspension systems. It can be noted that a suspension system with combined control of springing and damping elements can be considered as rather effective in terms of decreasing load of vehicle spring-mounted parts that along with low power consumption makes it rather competitive. The shown research results and control laws for springing and damping elements can be used as a basis for development of relatively simple controlled suspension systems.

The study aimed at qualification of the criteria for selecting the suspension system parameters for wheeled agricultural tractors and for evaluating their quality at the stage of engineering design. The problem to be solved consists in fact that both, ergonomic and technical standards (such as ISO and GOST), comprise the qualitative characteristics of suspension system only, whereas constructor designing new product needs the numerical values of particular parameters. A proposal was suggested to divide all the criteria dealing with the tractor suspension system into four groups, such as: - criteria for evaluating tractor steerability, safety and braking ability, - criteria for evaluating the loads of transmissions and construction elements of the tractor, - criteria concerning the tractor driver’s comfort, - criteria for evaluating tractor performance quality. Analysis of some research works considering the problems of spring suspension systems enabled to determine the quantitative criteria for evaluating suspension system for each group. Majority of the criteria for evaluating the quality of spring suspension system are applied to instantaneous values of tractor wheel resistance forces and to kinematic parameters (displacement, velocity, acceleration) for characteristic points of machine framing construction. The application of these numerical values is convenient both, at mathematical modelling with the use of „automatic design system” and during practical testing of the machine spring suspension system.
W pracy ustalono kryteria służące do doboru parametrów układu zawieszenia kołowego ciągnika rolniczego i oceny jego jakości na etapie projektowania. Problem badawczy polega na tym, że ergonomiczne i techniczne normy (takie jak ISO i GOST) zawierają charakterystyki jakościowe zawieszenia, a konstruktorowi projektującemu nowe wyroby potrzebne są wartości liczbowe wskaźników. Wszystkie kryteria dotyczące zawieszenia proponuje się podzielić na cztery grupy, a mianowicie: kryteria służące do oceny sterowności, stabilności, bezpieczeństwa i skuteczności hamowania, kryteria służące do oceny obciążeń w przekładniach i elementach konstrukcji ciągnika, kryteria dotyczące komfortu pracy traktorzysty, kryteria służące do oceny jakości pracy ciągnika. Przeprowadzona analiza prac naukowych, poświęconych problemom układów zawieszenia, pozwoliła ustalić kryteria ilościowe oceny systemu zawieszenia dla każdej grupy. Większość kryteriów służących do oceny jakości układu zawieszenia sprowadza się do chwilowych wartości sił oporów kół ciągnika i wskaźników kinematycznych (przemieszczenie, prędkość i przyspieszenie) dla charakterystycznych punktów konstrukcji szkieletu maszyny. Posługiwanie się tymi wielkościami jest wygodne zarówno podczas modelowania matematycznego z wykorzystaniem „systemu automatycznego projektowania”, jak i podczas praktycznych badań resorowania maszyn.

In this article, the computational methodology of the catenary–train–track system vibration analysis is presented and used to estimate the influence of vehicle body vibrations on the pantograph–catenary dynamic interaction. This issue is rarely referred in the literature, although any perturbations appearing at the pantograph–catenary interface are of great importance for high-speed railways. Vehicle body vibrations considered in this article are induced by the passage of train through the track stiffness discontinuity, being a frequent cause of significant dynamic effects. First, the most important assumptions of the computational model are presented, including the general idea of decomposing catenary–train–track dynamic system into two main subsystems and the concept of one-way coupling between them. Then, the pantograph base vibrations calculated for two train speeds (60 m/s, 100 m/s) and two cases of track discontinuity (a sudden increase and a sudden decrease in the stiffness of track substrate) are analyzed. Two cases of the railway vehicle suspension are considered – a typical two-stage suspension and a primary suspension alone. To evaluate catenary–pantograph dynamic interaction, the dynamic uplift of the contact wire at steady arm and the pantograph contact force is computed. It is demonstrated that an efficiency of the two-stage suspension grows with the train speed; hence, such vehicle suspension effectively suppresses strong sudden shocks of vehicle body, appearing while the train passes through the track stiffness discontinuity at a high speed. In a hypothetical case when the one-stage vehicle suspension is used, the pantograph base vibrations may increase the number of contact loss events at the catenary–pantograph interface.

This paper describes the influence of shock absorbers' technical condition on the vehicle braking process on two types of surface with the Anti-Lock Braking System activated and deactivated. During each of the road tests the vehicle stopping distance, the braking deceleration, and the force applied on the brake pedal were determined. The test plan includes various road surfaces and technical conditions of shock absorbers. The established characteristics of the stopping distance and the deceleration allow the determination of the relations between the technical condition of the shock absorbers, the road surface, and the efficiency of the braking system. In addition, this paper presents the principle of operation of the Anti-Lock Braking System, which is one of the basic active safety systems.
W pracy określono wpływ stanu technicznego amortyzatorów na proces hamowania pojazdu na dwóch rodzajach nawierzchni, przy aktywnym oraz zdezaktywowanym układzie ABS. Podczas każdej z prób drogowych określane były droga hamowania pojazdu, opóźnienie hamowania oraz siła nacisku na pedał hamulca. W planie badań uwzględniono różne stany nawierzchnie drogi i stany techniczne amortyzatorów. Wyznaczone charakterystyki drogi hamowania i opóźnienia pozwalające na identyfikację zależności pomiędzy stanem amortyzatorów, nawierzchnią drogi, a skutecznością funkcjonowania układu hamulcowego. W pracy przedstawiono również zasadę działania układu ABS, który jest jednym z podstawowych elementów bezpieczeństwa czynnego.

The essence of the undertaken topic is application of the continuous sky-hook control strategy and the Extended Kalman Filter as the state observer in the 2S1 tracked vehicle suspension system. The half-car model of this suspension system consists of seven logarithmic spiral springs and two magnetorheological dampers which has been described by the Bingham model. The applied continuous skyhook control strategy considers nonlinear stiffness characteristic of the logarithmic spiral springs. The control is determined on estimates generated by the Extended Kalman Filter. Improve of ride comfort is verified by comparing simulation results, under the same driving conditions, of controlled and passive vehicle suspension systems.

Opis:
The driving comfort of the vehicle is primarily determined by the design of the suspension system, which transmits the force between the vehicle and the ground. There are different types of vehicle suspension systems, including active suspension systems that provide significant benefits for ride comfort while driving. However, the existing active suspension systems have limited functions such as power, and also complex structure. To overcome the problem, the proper design of the active suspension system by considering its present limitations is essential. A well-designed active suspension system controls the load on the wheels under the resonance of the body structure and ensures driving comfort. It reduces the vibrational energy of the vehicle body caused by the excitation of the road while keeping the stability of the vehicle within an acceptable limit. For a proper design of the active suspension system, the road surface, the seat suspension, and the wheel load are the most important elements to consider. In this study, different types of vehicle suspension systems with their limitations have been thoroughly investigated. Many aspects of control and some of the essential practical considerations are also explored.
