    The article presents a case study of the identification and analysis of operating and equipment losses in a steel plant. Losses may be visible in costs resulting from premature wear of machine and equipment components, removal of emergency failures related to quality losses, including loss of reputation of a reliable supplier, as well as losses related to production, especially in the case of continuous production. The analysis of losses was based on the cost criterion, including losses resulting from the loss of a potential client. The real data from the 2016 were used in the case study. In order to ensure proper operation at the finishing department, standard solutions have been developed. The analysis of losses was based on the Pareto principle and the analysis of TPM coefficients.

    The developmental principle is the most typical and probably a superior principle in improvement of children with cerebral palsy. This principle is described as management according to the physiological sequence of development. However, the developmental principle, considered as a simple teaching of successive “milestones” during the therapy is neither a positive nor a proper solution. Literal and simplified understanding of the developmental principle cannot be valid any longer. It cannot be seen as the necessity to achieve successive “milestone” according to their occurrence during the normal development. The developmental principle should monitor the approach to children’s problems and determine the frame of the procedure on the basis of normal and pathological development. Management complying with the developmental principle should be based on cause and effect analysis of growth deficits and mechanisms of abnormal motor behaviour formation. The understanding and application of this principle changes with the advancement of knowledge. The developmental principle should be used in a flexible manner taking into account not only motor development sequence but also other aspects. During the treatment of cerebral palsied children, there are many situations when a decision must be made by considering other elements rather than those connected with posture-motor aspects, such as nursing care, orthopaedic, psychological, pedagogical, social and logopedic ones. At present, this principle could be described as the necessity to consider in the therapy process mechanisms of acquisition and accumulation of proper sensorimotor experiences by the child, which provide a chance to generate the most proper movment patterns in the central nervous system. The interpretation of the developmental principle has always required that a child should not be pushed to overpass its motor abilities. Such a view is correct but has to be shown in a different light since such management can lead to a “trap”. Taking into consideration different aspects of cerebral palsy children care, it should be thought over, if and how the developmental principle is to be kept and whether it is really indispensable. Emphasizing the complexity of a problem, the author of this study discusses some dilemmas regarding the application of the developmental principle within the aspect of the diagnosis of motor disturbances, nursing care, psychological, pedagogical, logopedic indications, orthopaedic indications and child’s daily living and therapy. The necessity of detecting both present and remote functional needs of children with cerebral palsy has also been highlighted.

    The article presents the essence of the method of value stream mapping on the example of a selected production process in an automotive company. The analysis presented in the paper concerned the indication of potential organizational possibilities of actions aimed at implementing changes in the organization based on the results of measuring the process with the use of the OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) indicator. All stages of the production process were explained, which allowed to obtain the results of the process efficiency analyses. Further on, the results of the analysis of process improvement in accordance with the PDCA approach are discussed. The significance of establishing the method in order to improve the functioning of the process and the meaning and usage of the value stream mapping methodology in building successful relations with the end customer were emphasized. The undertaken activities constitute a research gap defined as follows: the effectiveness of management methods in an organization depends on the efficiency of using the applied indicators and reacting to changes. Thus, defining models with potential application capabilities in order to increase management effectiveness is one of the most important issues in the area of enterprise organization.

    The article describes issues related to creating discrete simulation models for the implementation of the furniture manufacturing and assembly process in a furniture company. The methodology of the manufacturing system analysis was presented, which is aimed to support the appropriate approach to the construction of simulation models. The scope of the work includes the technological identification of the furniture manufacturing and assembly process in real production conditions, on the basis of which the appropriate simulation model was built. The course of the process was analyzed in the Arena software on the basis of a computer simulation based on reports. As a result of the simulation of the manufacturing process with the use of information from report of usage, an area for improvement was located. The re-analysis of the material flow made it possible to propose a change in the input parameters for the simulation model in the indicated area. The results of the second simulation show significant changes in the effective use of workstations and increase in the efficiency of the production line. In practice, it can be the basis for introducing simulated changes in the production system.
    W artykule opisano zagadnienia związane z tworzeniem dyskretnych modeli symulacyjnych dla realizacji procesu wytwarzania i montażu mebli w przedsiębiorstwie branży meblarskiej. Przedstawiono metodykę analizy systemu wytwarzania, która ma za zadanie wspierać właściwe podejście dla budowy modeli symulacyjnych. Zakresem praca obejmuje identyfikację technologiczną procesu wytwarzania i montażu mebli w rzeczywistych warunkach produkcyjnych, w oparciu o którą zbudowano właściwy model symulacyjny na przykładzie procesu wytwarzania w rzeczywistych warunkach produkcyjnych. Analizę przebiegu procesu na podstawie symulacji komputerowej w oparciu o raporty przeprowadzono w oprogramowaniu Arena. W wyniku przeprowadzonej symulacji procesu wytwarzania z wykorzystaniem informacji z raportu obciążeń stanowiskowych zlokalizowano obszar do doskonalenia. Powtórna analiza przepływu materiałowego pozwoliła zaproponować zmianę parametrów wejściowych dla modelu symulacyjnego we wskazanym obszarze. Wyniki drugiej symulacji wskazują istotne zmiany w zakresie efektywnego wykorzystania stanowisk pracy oraz zwiększenia wydajności linii produkcyjnej. W praktyce może to stanowić podstawę do wprowadzenia symulowanych zmian w omawianym systemie produkcyjnym.

    The aim of this paper is to present the case study of business processes reengineering (BPR). Important part of the change was the logistic process. At the beginning, the literature review on process approach and BPR was presented. Next a BPR methodology was shown. The case study of the implemented BPR change consists of three parts. In the first part, the company’s standing before the change was characterised. Next, the methodology of the project, based on the BPR approach, was defined. In the third part, the results of the BPR change were depicted. The article ends up with general conclusions.
    Celem artykułu jest zaprezentowanie studium przypadku reengineeringu procesów biznesowych (ang. Business Process Reengineering, BPR). Ważną częścią zmian był reengineering procesu logistycznego. W artykule przedstawiono przegląd literatury w zakresie podejścia procesowego i reengineeringu procesów biznesowych. Dokonano przeglądu metodyk BPR. Prezentowane studium przypadku składa się z trzech części. W pierwszej części scharakteryzowano stan przedsiębiorstwa przed zmianą. Następnie zdefiniowano metodykę zmiany bazując na podejściu BPR. W części trzeciej przedstawiono rezultaty zmiany. Artykuł wieńczą konkluzje.

    For TOC (Theory of Constraints) implementation in a production system, the determination of the system’s bottleneck is a crucial step. Effective bottleneck identification allows setting priorities for the improvement of a production system. The article deals with a significant problem for the manufacturing industry related to the location of a bottleneck. The article aims for a detailed analysis of methods for bottleneck identification based on a comprehensive literature review and the design of a generalised methodology for bottleneck identification in the production system. The article uses two research methods, first, the combination of a narrative and scoping literature review, and second, the logical design. Several methods for bottleneck identification are reviewed and compared, finding some being similar, and others giving new insights into the evaluated production system. A methodology for bottleneck identification is proposed. It contains several detailed methods arranged in coherent steps, which are suggested to be followed when aiming for the recognition of a production system’s bottleneck. The proposed methodology is expected to be helpful in the practical TOC implementation. The presented methodology for the identification of bottlenecks in a production system is a practical tool for managers and experts dealing with TOC. However, it is still a conceptual proposal that needs to be tested empirically. The proposed methodology for bottleneck identification is an original concept based on the current literature output. It contributes to the production management theory as a practical managerial tool.
