Opis:
Urban planning has been simulated through various city-building games such as The Sumerian Game (1964), SimCity (1989), and Cities: Skylines (2015), amongst many others. Gaming technology has been utilized in 3D GIS, City Information Models (CIMs), and Urban Digital Twins (UDTs) to enhance public participation and engagement in the planning process. This article studies the overlap and ‘game-like’ qualities of these systems and presents an Urban Game Continuum. This interactive tool works in tandem with a taxonomy of city-building games and existing UDTs in order to assist with the design of future systems. A case study imported GeoData from Lancaster, UK, into a games platform. The continuum tool and case study offer new insights into opportunities for the utilisation of game design and gaming technology in urban planning and digital transformation. The article argues that the current use of gaming technology for real-world applications is one-directional and misses opportunities to include digital game design and research, such as mechanics, dynamics, flow, and public participatory world-building for future scenarios. By incorporating these elements, UDT systems could offer higher levels of citizen engagement.

Opis:
Long Range Wide Area Network (LoRaWAN) technology has established new concepts for long-range wireless communication, being widely used in the implementation of IoT solutions. Therefore, it is crucial to validate the coverage of the signal and to know the distance at which a LoRAWAN communication system can be connected. This document investigates LoRaWAN technology for cases based on urban environments, so it can be used as a guide for those projects that require predicting the connection distance range of a LoRaWAN link. In addition, it serves as a tool for the reader when it comes to predicting the coverage of Long-Range Wide Area Network (LoRaWAN) technology. Measurements were made in a LoRaWAN network deployed in urban environments, where RSSI measurements were made in the city of Bogotá D.C., Colombia. Experimentally RSSI values were compared with four different propagation models at a frequency of 915 MHz in urban environments. The contribution of this work is an adjustment to widely used prediction models, according to the recommendation of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) ITU-R P.1546, which allows estimating coverage in scenarios with characteristics similar to Bogotá D.C. This allows to know with precision the coverage before implementing the LoRaWAN communications system at 915 MHz. The results of comparing field measurements with fitted propagation models show that the Okumura model is the best predictor of coverage with a minimum error rate.

Opis:
This paper surveys the most recent advances in the context of decisional processing with focusing on the parking behavior in entropic settings, including the measures and the necessary mechanisms for the interaction of the actors-players, and their connection to decisional processing theory. The aim of this article is to provide a critical review of the most fashionable models and methods in parking lot financial design: the first class of methods covers the approach of analysis with the random entropic model; the second class of methods is the decisional processing through rational choice models as rational individual evaluations. Both techniques are described in detail in sections; we illustrate them using the well-known and easy multimodal problem approach and then we present the advanced applications. Thus, it is possible to identify all strong and weak points of the models and to compare them for a best feasible solution for parking lot economic and financial design. Taking into account a close equivalence between the aggregate methods of entropy maximization and disaggregated microeconomic method of discrete choice models, based on random utility theory, we try to provide a critical approach of it through the rational choice models and to underline the possible benefit of it for the problem decision.

Opis:
Urban development is now becoming an increasingly complex challenge in global and local terms. The urban form is both, the element of the city's sense and the spatial framework of urban transformations. The morphology of the city is changing constantly with urban development. What can be continuously observed is, that “cities and their complexes grow spatially, forming large areas and absorbing new territories.” [2]. Urban morphology consists of built-up tissue and voids in-between, so the urban development is directly related to the volume and geometrical structure of open areas and public spaces. If the public life occurs in the space in-between, exploring tools of advanced urban analyses focused on morphology of open spaces seems to be important and actual. Spatial disposition and relation between public spaces define unique features of towns and contribute to the general perception of the sense of cities. However the problem is not as obvious as it may seem in practical terms. While the analysis of the built-up tissue of cities is relatively achievable, a measurable analysis of the space in-between is a considerable challenge due to the lack of defined geometry. This geometrical aspect of open spaces in cities is addressed in this article. The promising and powerful data environment enabling the development of such analytic tools are 3D virtual city models. The already introduced by the author analytic method called 3D-Negative (N3D) allows quantification and measurable analyses of the “invisible” geometry. The method is closely related to GIS and cityGML environments. The purpose of the article is to analyze regularities, spatial distribution and structure of public spaces in selected cities in area and linear means.

Opis:
Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) is a promising form of urban transport. Its operation relies on the use of small unmanned vehicles which carry the passengers between the stations within a dedicated network. Various aspects of the PRT network performance are frequently evaluated using the discrete-event simulation. The paper supports the need of establishing some reference models for the simulation of PRT networks, targeted mainly at the needs of the research on the network management algorithms. Three models of such PRT network models are proposed and discussed. The presented models can play the role of benchmarks which would be very useful for comparative evaluation of heuristic control algorithms, developed by different research groups.

Opis:
From ancient to modern times, in the historical process of urban development, urban transportation has been developing along with the development of the city's political, economic and cultural industries, and the relationship between each other has always been a topic constantly discussed by planning scholars. The development of urban transportation promotes the urban population gathering and industrial development, and promotes the development of urban geographical space. At the same time, it also brings endless convenience to urban residents, so that they can complete the displacement from the beginning to the destination with relatively low cost. However, with the rapid development of urban scale and the rapid growth of urban population, the problems of traffic congestion and land resource shortage in big cities of China seriously restrict the improvement of the quality of life of residents and the further development of the city. In this context, compact city is the inevitable choice for future urban development, while the transportation system supporting compact city form can only be public transportation. As a high-volume, efficient and rapid public transport mode, rail transit can not only solve the traffic congestion problem in high-density areas of cities, but also optimize the development and utilization of urban land and adjust the urban spatial layout, which is of great significance for the sustainable development of cities. The network of rail transit in Beijing becomes the backbone of public passenger transport system, and play an irreplaceable role in guiding the urban space layout adjustment, population migration and the transformation of traffic structure. The study of travel characteristics of the residents who live along the rail transit, in-depth analysis the relationship of the rail transit, the population migration and commuter travel, it is of great significance providing decision support for urban planning. Based on binary choice model, establishing the residents' travel choice model, rail transit impact model of different crowds. Study the relationship between rail transit and residents' travel characteristics, predict the rail transit to guide the trend of population migration.

Opis:
The influence of air pollutants on visibility in Warsaw Agglomeration has been investigated. Following pollutants were considered: PM10, SO2, NO2 and O3, while meteorological parameters included: air temperatures (mean, minimum, maximum), solar radiation, relative air humidity, rainfall rates and wind speed. Initial analyses were performed with the use of principal component analysis (PCA). In next stages, the logistic regression (LR), the analysis of variance (ANOVA), one-way classification and a model path of generalized regression models (GRM) were applied. PCA analysis showed that in the cold season the visibility index depends on PM10, SO2, NO2 and the temperatures: T, Tmin, and Tmax. In the warm season, the index of visibility is mostly shaped by four elements: O3, T, Tmax and solar radiation. Logistic regression model indicated that in the warm season only two variables are significantly related to visibility: PM10 and relative humidity of air. Regularities in the cold season shown by the LR correspond with the conclusions from the PCA. Among meteorological conditions, the most important is air temperature, but only Tmax preserves the same direction of influence as the one pointed by the PCA model.

The aim of this paper is to present the genesis and the development of two models of the “leading path” to the integrated management of functional urban areas of voivodeship centres (FUA VC) in Poland in the context of the implementation of the new instrument of the EU’s Cohesion Policy – Integrated Territorial Investments (ITIs). The implementation of ITIs is presented in the light of the inter-commune cooperation in FUA VC, which has been realised variously so far. As examples of the “leading path” to the integrated management based on the ITI, two functional areas have been selected, differing in this respect, Poznań in western Poland (an example of a bottom-up model) and Lublin in its eastern part (an example of a top-down model). In the conclusion, the instrument of ITI was evaluated as a factor which initiates, deepens or complicates the cooperation of local governments in FUAs. It has been emphasised, that in spite of the creation of organisational and financial instruments (ITIs) which activate the cooperation of self-governments in functional areas, one must take into account the need for legislative changes which give a special status to metropolitan areas, income sources and specific powers.

The complex geometry of the city structure and the increasing speed of ongoing urban transformations in large European cities, requires powerful tools for the analysis, design and management. Virtual 3D city models can be an important tool in urban planning, used to diagnose phenomena produced by tall buildings. In recent years, the issue has become a considerable challenge for the cohesion of the European urban landscape. This paper presents foundations of a research project under Polish-Norwegian financing mechanism called 2TaLL. The project examines possibilities and limitations of using virtual 3D models of cities to provide advanced urban analyses focused on simulating impact tall buildings have on landscapes of European cities. The research is an interdisciplinary combination of geo-information and urban planning and contributes to the development of theory & applications in the two fields of engineering science.

Downtown of a city or town is a spatial frame where the notion of lower middle class was formed and in which memorial events took place. After the damages of the First World War the downtown were restored and were actively functioning. In the second half of the 20th century, most downtowns were completely destroyed. The main problems downtown as an object of cultural heritage is no local strategy for the protection and conservation of valuable and monumental buildings, lack of program options using heritage as economic development.
