The terminology and conceptual apparatus of modern logistics as a scientific discipline is far from being shaped. Researches and developers of legislative and norm-setting documents are obliged to use their own or barrowed terminology, in both case not shared ubiquitously. Consequently, the interpretations even of basic concepts differ significantly. In particular, there exists an academic and practical point of view that refuse the right for existence of the term “transportation logistics”. This clause is explained by the proclaimed omnipresence and universality of logistics, which has in its operational glossary the term “transportation”, treated as a local, subordinated and thus secondary function. This paper tries to set a decisive rule to distinguish between general logistics and transportation logistics, arguing that these two disciplines are well separated by the objects and methodology, knowledge and activities. In transportation logistics defined this way the authors examine two principal components of the transportation processes, storage (warehousing) and movement (shipping). This consideration lead to conclusions that the classical mathematical toolkit is not fitted for the design and management of modern global supply chains.

In recent time, as the Chinese consumption level increases, the consumption quantity of high-value fruits, vegetables and seafood products have been increasing year by year. As a consequence, the traffic volume of refrigerated products also increases yearly and the popularization degree of the cold-chain transportation enhances. A low-temperature environment should be guaranteed during transportation, thus there is about 40% of diesel oil should be consumed by the refrigerating system and the cold-chain transportation becomes very costly. This study aimed to explore methods that could reduce the cost of transport packages of refrigerated products. On the basis of the heat transfer theory and the fluid mechanics theory, the heat exchanging process of corrugated cases during the operation of refrigerating system was analyzed, the heat transfer process of corrugated cases and refrigerator van was theoretically analyzed and the heat balance equation of corrugated cases was constructed.

The logistics industry is developing rapidly at the global level. The trend toward implementing virtual reality in business and digitalization is growing. The growth of consumer demand for logistics services and their high quality provokes an increase in freight turnover around the world, allowing logistics processes to improve. At the same time, the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic was an unpredictable event that led to a crisis and chaos in logistics and demonstrated the unpreparedness of global logistics for such situations. Researchers say the effects of the pandemic are just beginning and will last for the next three years. The study aims to determine the duration of the effects of a pandemic, their impact on logistics, and identify the preconditions for preventing potential crises. To achieve this goal, it is necessary to analyze the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on global logistics, predict the development of the logistics crisis for the next study period, conclude, and offer recommendations. Logistics was able to respond quickly to the new challenge of the COVID-19 pandemic and adapt to the new realities of doing business. However, together with such a phenomenally rapid change in the accepted order of life and adjustment to the remote "new" normality, humanity struggles with new waves of the pandemic.

The article discusses the theoretical principles of statistical research with regard to the national market of logistics services during wartime. The system of statistical indicators of the research of the logistics services market is structured through the allocation of separate blocks of indicators by priority of their estimation in war conditions. The market of logistics services of Ukraine is characterised by selected blocks of indicators. The paper identifies the main structural changes that occurred due to the hostilities faced by the country. Moreover, the authors determine the main factors influencing the functioning of the analysed market during war, as the statistical study of these factors is considered necessary for the transformation and development of logistics services. It is substantiated that taking into account such statistical indicators as the level and availability of logistics infrastructure, security, the human factor and changes in legislation are likely to result in a new alternative direction of logistics routes and contribute to the development of the logistics services market in general. The authors proposed the construction of a centralised electronic service (or several services) with the purpose of consolidating information about the logistics infrastructure. The software system should offer the option of an operational interactive visualisation.

The production of freshwater aquaculture fish has developed quickly and being important activity. An intensive logistics system is required to handle the shipment since the aquaculture products especially aquaculture fish are perishable. The process begins right after fish farming to final consumption. It involves a large number of stakeholders as the significant effort is required to build an efficient supply chain. However, little is known about process faced by the Malaysian aquaculture entrepreneurs during the aqua logistics activities. Therefore, this study aims to address this gap by exploring this phenomenon. Methods: For methodology part, a series of 12 aquaculture companies through focus group discussion (FGD) with the entrepreneurs were done across aqua logistic business. This was done to explore the topic and refine the research questions. Results: The present study discovers that there were linkages along the value chain of aqua logistics in aquaculture industry, which provides a specific recommendation to stakeholders in managing day-to-day logistics operations. Also, the findings show four main process emerging from the qualitative study, which led to the following themes, namely: [i] procurement; [ii] production; [iii] order fulfillment; and [iv] transport and distribution. Conclusion: The adopted qualitative methodology provided rich information that will lead the future research. In brief, this study has contributed new knowledge to the existing literature in aqua logistics and will benefit the future studies.
Produkcja ryb słodkowodnych rozwija się szybko i zyskuje coraz większe znaczenie. Intensywny system logistyczna wymaga dobrej obsługi dostaw ze względu na łatwą podatność na psucie się oferowanych produktów. Proces zaczyna się od momentu połowu aż do dostawy do końcowego konsumenta. Obejmuje swoim zasięgiem wielu uczestników, budujących wydajny łańcuch dostaw. Aczkolwiek nadal jest mało dostępnej wiedzy na temat procesu realizowanego przez malezyjskich przedsiębiorców tej branż podczas czynności w obrębie całego łańcucha logistycznego. Celem pracy jest pogłębienie i rozszerzenie wiedzy w tym obszarze. Metody: Do badania wykorzystano grupy fokusowe 12 przedsiębiorstw związanych z badaną działalnością w celu analizy problemu. Wyniki: Prezentowane badania wykazały powiązania wartościowe pomiędzy uczestnikami łańcucha dostaw w obrębie aqua-przemysłu, które dostarczają specyficznych rekomendacji uczestnikom łańcucha w codziennych operacjach logistycznych. Dodatkowo wyodrębniono cztery główne procesy związane z następującymi obszarami: zakupy, produkcja, realizacja zamówień oraz transport i dystrybucja. Wnioski: Zastosowana metodologia jakościowa dostarczyła obfitej informacji, które będzie wykorzystana w kolejnych pracach. Rozszerza ona istniejący stan wiedzy na temat aqua-logistyki i stanowi bazę dla przyszłych badań.

Transportation, representing 6% of GDP, plays vital role in social and economic development of the Republic of Belarus. The purpose of this article is to present the geographic analysis of current spatial structure of the road transportation in Belarus in 2000-2014. The choice of transport mode for the article was influenced by several factors, such as historic development, network coverage, transformational changes in productivity, rapid increase in car ownership numbers, emergence of logistic centers and intelligent transportation systems. The article reviews the range of topics, including morphology of the major roads network, logistic centers spatial distribution and regional features of passenger and cargo productivity, discusses current transformational changes within the road transportation sector in Belarus. The key findings indicate that current changes in spatial structure of the road transportation in Belarus have uneven nature, shaped by social, economic, political and geopolitical external and internal factors and are a subject of interest for both transportation researchers and practitioners.

Nowadays, transport companies operate in a constantly changing environment and are exposed to various risks. One of the main problems of the carriers is the difficulty in obtaining payment for the provided services. The purpose of this article is to assess the scale of debt recovery problem in the Polish transport companies. The publication characterizes main reasons of the occurrence of delays in payments and describes the most effective methods of debt recovery. The article provides us with the results of the research conducted on a group of 50 randomly selected Polish transport companies. The paper is also based on the author's own work experience in the transport company.

The paper refers to planning deliveries of food products (especially those available in certain seasons) to the recipients: supermarket networks. The paper presents two approaches to solving problems of simultaneous selection of suppliers and transportation modes and construction of product flow schedules with these transportation modes. Linear mathematical models have been built for the presented solution approaches. The cost criterion has been taken into consideration in them. The following costs have been taken into account: purchase of products by individual recipients, transport services, storing of products supplied before the planned deadlines and penalties for delays in supply of products. Two solution approaches (used for transportation planning and selection of suppliers and selection of transportation modes) have been compared. The monolithic approach calls for simultaneous solutions for the problems of supplier selection and selection of transportation modes. In the alternative (hierarchical) solution approach, suppliers are selected first, and then transportation companies and their relevant transportation modes are selected. The results of computational experiments are used for comparison of the hierarchical and monolithic solution approaches.

Modern technologies provide the optimization, the management, and the automation of the port operation and the logistics processes, hence they create an effective advance which strengthens the port's position among the maritime communities. If it is not enough, they also improve the integration of governing bodies to standardize and harmonize the reporting formalities. Ports have been especially challenged during the COVID - 19 pandemic. The port enterprises, which had dynamically introduced innovative solutions, have maintained their position on the market. This means that innovation is the only way to maintain a high position in the international economy. The aim of the study is to present a review of port technologies, which is based on literature. Purpose: Main aim of the following paper is to present the conception of logistics coordination from the point of view of transportation actions from the perspective of the international 3PL company. Design/methodology/approach: In the paper used the case study based on the case of chosen international 3PL, where the distribution network was analyzed. Findings: 3PL is able to support the transportation planning operation in the considered distribution network by using a developed cloud-based infrastructure that supports demand forecasting tool and transportation planning. Originality/value: Paper connects the one function of logistics coordination – transportation planning – with the demand forecasting tool and the issues of 3PL. It is also shown the case study with implemented solution based on cloud infrastructure to support the transportation operations.

Background: The purpose of this paper is to redesign the supply chain network of a lubricant company by implementing an innovative solution concentrated on the delivery of products and minimizing total loading, unloading and transportation costs. Methods: In this paper the authors' approach to redesigning the supply chain network (SCN) is presented. It comprises 3 phases: analysis of the current state of the SCN, identification of disadvantages in the SCN and SCN improvement. This step-wise procedure is verified on a real-world supply chain network, which is analyzed, evaluated and redesigned. Based on this analysis, the most important strengths and weaknesses are identified. The main criteria for evaluation are loading, unloading and transportation costs. A redesign of the company is proposed, the stakeholders' opinions are gathered and the innovative solution is implemented. Results: After successful implementation of the innovative solution, the result shows savings in loading, unloading and transportation costs and an improvement in the level of service. Research Limitations: The proposed methodology can be implemented in other supply chain networks. However, the way of limiting the loading, unloading and transportation costs presented in this paper cannot be regarded as a general rule applicable to all companies. Conclusions: This study presents innovative thinking in the logistics network of a company and the results obtained prove that companies which are innovative in terms of products can also become innovative in their services.
Wstęp: Celem niniejszego artykułu jest reorganizacja łańcucha dostaw firmy funkcjonującej w branży olejowej, poprzez wdrożenie innowacyjnego rozwiązania skoncentrowanego na dostawach produktów i poprzez minimalizację całkowitego załadunku, wyładunku towarów i kosztów transportu. Metody: W niniejszym artykule jest przedstawione podejście do reorganizacji łańcucha dostaw (ŁD). Składa się ono z 3 faz, tj. analizy stanu aktualnego ŁD, identyfikacji słabych stron ŁD oraz poprawy funkcjonowania ŁD. Przedstawiona wielofazowa procedura jest zweryfikowana na przykładzie rzeczywistego łańcucha dostaw, który jest poddany analizie, ocenie i reorganizacji. Na podstawie przeprowadzonej analizy, są definiowane jego najważniejsze mocne i słabe strony. Głównymi kryteriami oceny są koszty załadunku, wyładunku i transportu. Rekomendowana jest reorganizacja przedsiębiorstwa, zbierane są opinie osób zainteresowanych funkcjonowaniem łańcucha i zaimplementowane jest innowacyjne rozwiązanie. Wyniki: Po udanym wdrożeniu innowacyjnego rozwiązania, uzyskany rezultat pokazuje oszczędności w kosztach załadunku, wyładunku i transportu oraz poprawę poziomu świadczonych usług. Ograniczenia badawcze: Proponowana metodyka może być zastosowana w innych łańcuchach dostaw. Jednak przedstawiony sposób ograniczenia kosztów załadunku, wyładunku i transportu nie może być uznany, jako ogólna zasada dla wszystkich przedsiębiorstw. Ponadto badania nie uwzględniają sytuacji ewentualnych niedoborów magazynowych. Wnioski: Przedstawione wyniki badań koncentrują się na innowacyjnym podejściu do sieci logistycznej w wybranej firmie, a uzyskane wyniki dowodzą, że przedsiębiorstwo świadczące innowacyjne produkty, może stać się innowacyjne w sferze usług.
