Opis:
It is difficult to organize urban transport in the city center. Existing buildings, narrow streets and working infrastructure make it difficult to use the oldfashion transport means such as trams or buses. The new idea consists in elevation of the transport in the very city above ground level (typical PRT systems cover rare areas like airport or fairgrounds). The study analyzes the hierarchical, layered system consisting of a ring light rail and PRT (Personal Rapid Transit) serving as commuter network. It is shown in the case of an exemplary city that the proposed solution is possible and reasonable. Ridership and vehicle mileage of the entire system are calculated for the light rail analytically, and in the case PRT by simulation.

Opis:
Moving the customs border of the EU on to the line of the Bug river and the appearance of foreign investors in the eastern Poland in the impact area of the Corridor No. II international transport has created new opportunities for development in the recent years. Article recognizes in this respect the essential elements of the transport potential of the Euroregion Bug. Being a cross-border region through which many loads of cargo are transported, it does not use its full transport capacity, which could ensure this border region rapid economic development. Article concludes that due to its favourable geographical location, in the II Pan-European Transport Corridor’s belt of interaction, the greatest transport potential of the Euroregion Bug rests in the localization, in this region, of the modern computerized multi-modal logistical centres.

Opis:
This paper aims to analyse the planning of chemical transports shift from road to the more complex multimodal freight transport, and presents a toolbox developed to support the participants in the process. In literature the research problem of multimodal freight transport planning is analysed mainly from mathematical models’ perspective. There is a lack of studies focused on multimodal transport chain collaboration and the tools supporting it. Within the framework of research conducted during the ChemMultimodal „Promotion of Multimodal Transport in Chemical Logistics” project, within INTERREG Central Europe Programme, the research team identified challenges related to modal shifts in the chemical industry, and next developed the toolbox addressing these challenges and supporting participants’ collaboration on multimodal chemical freight transport planning. The toolbox embraces: (1) consulting services, (2) planning guidelines, (3) the Intermodal Links platform, which suggests intermodal connections between two points, and (4) a CO2 calculator. Conclusions from the first pilot tests showed the necessity of a complex approach to the process of modal shift planning. Transport managers testing the toolbox the most appreciated the consulting services, which include a marketing platform integrating chemical producers and distributors, logistics companies, carriers, terminal operators, rail network operators and others. This platform is used to share information on current transport patterns, existing potentials, and possible actions to establish and promote modal shift.

Opis:
This article addresses the origins and evolution of international organizations dedicated to international rail transport. From the beginning of rail history, most of the railway networks in Europe were built by numerous private companies, which continuously competed and collaborated with each other within domestic transport as well as international transport. European railway companies made connections across borders based on personal and financial network relationships and established various types of agreements and unions to make international traffic possible. This coalition allowed them to jointly operate member networks, including running direct trains and establishing tariff agreements. Since international transport has grown in size and complexity, international railway organizations have continuously evolved. This study proceeds as follows: the first section outlines the beginnings and development of international rail transport organizations. With the expansion of the rail network in Europe, international cooperation in the field of railways occurred early in the 19th century. This mainly took the form of bilateral or multilateral agreements or even treaties among the States. Initially, these agreements affected the establishment of international organizations. The second section draws out international organizations between the First World War and the Second World War. In the interwar period, the existing organizations continued to expand their scope of activities and new organizations were founded. The third section examines the impact of the Cold War on international rail organizations. During the Cold War, many organizations were established in Western Europe, with active international railway cooperation. In Eastern Europe, a new international organization was established under the influence of the Soviet Union. The fourth section explains changes in international organizations after the Cold War. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the existing organizations steadily adapted themselves to changes in the political, economic, social, cultural and technological environments. Because of these various changes, new international organizations also emerged.(original abstract)

Opis:
Road safety was and still is one of the real hazards for human society all over the world. In order to manage the problem of excessive road death toll at the both sides of Atlantic two independent initiatives were started in 1970 in the USA in the US Department of Transportation. The paper describes the genesis of intergovernmental European initiative named EEVC, its history, participants and scope of former and current scientific research related to improvements in vehicle design safety. The work was started from the careful analysis of accident statistics data including the severity of accident. The important feature of EEVC working groups is participation of car industry researchers enabling wide verification of scientific achievements. For specific items, it is also shown the practical profit based on knowledge coming from EEVC research. Most important items resolved by EEVC were in-depth study of multidirectional impact mechanics, development of anthropometric dummies, pedestrian safety, passive/active safety interaction, rear under run protection etc. The influence of change in vehicle design appears important for all road users the vulnerable persons including. The relation to other similar international initiatives was pointed together with the future direction of activity and relation to National and International (UN ECE and EC) legislative bodies. The Polish input to EEVC research was described since in 2002 Poland started its participation.

Opis:
A logistics centre is a spacious area with appropriate organization and infrastructure allowing various independent entrepreneurs to perform actions on the cargo flow, related to its storage and movement between senders and receivers, including support services for intermodal transport and performing tasks with the resources used for these purposes. Any model of cooperation between enterprises involved in the design and implementation of set goals and the investment in a logistics centre includes a number of common stages, with the exception of the initial phases of cooperation. The stages of the implementation of cooperation include planning the scope of work, negotiation and the signing of the agreement, implementation and its associated supervision, continuation and finally modification or termination of cooperation. In this article, the various stages of cooperation of companies participating in this project are analysed individually. General scheme of the planning area and equipment, a model of the design, the planning phase of the logistics centre; the stage of implementation and control and stage of summarizing cooperation; the location of logistics centres from a micro-spatial aspects are presented in the paper.

Opis:
The society’s main trend for globalisation requires the restructuring of the global transport system as a whole. The ‘Dnieper region’ is no exception, as it needs changes in its practice of organising and managing its process of cargo delivery in accordance with the current trends. This paper considered the main solution directions of this problem in the aspect of ‘container on barge system’ transportation in accordance with the potential of the region. Based on international experience, the competitiveness of the container on barge system can be ensured by applying the different forms of cooperation between the business-players. In the case of horizontal cooperation, it’s raising the problem of distribution of structural elements of the container on barge system during the container-flows adoption. So, the paper proposed the mathematical decision to maximise the use of the linear ship's characteristics by the barge’s loading capacity and by the tug’s engine power.

Opis:
This article presents the results of a survey that was carried out among companies commissioning cargo handling on the national transport services market. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between brand awareness, image and brand equity in terms of companies specializing in road freight transport. The relations between brand equity and the process of handling transport orders were also evaluated. Specific hypotheses about significant dependencies between the parameters referred to above were formulated and were then verified by performing a quantitative data analysis, relying on Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient and the chi-square test of independence. A statistically significant correlation between brand image and equity, on the one hand, and between brand awareness and image, on the other, has been identified based on the survey. The research confirms the importance of brand equity in the development of business operations, mainly due to the existence of significant and statistically important dependencies between brand equity and customer cooperation-related parameters that have been observed in the three types of relationships under analysis.
