Opis:
An acoustic emission method (AE) is widespread and often applied for partial discharge (PD) diagnostics, mainly due to its ease of application as well as noninvasiveness and relatively high sensitivity. This paper presents comparative analysis of AE signals measurement results archived under laboratory conditions as well as on-site actual AE signals generated by inside PDs in electrical power transformer during its normal service. Three different PD model sources are applied for laboratory research: point to point, multipoint to plate and surface type. A typical measuring set up commonly used for on-site transformer PD diagnostics is provided for the laboratory tasks: piezoelectric joint transducer, preamplifier, amplifier and measuring PC interface. During the on-site research there are three measuring tracks applied simultaneously. Time domain, time-frequency domain and statistical tools are used for registered AE signals analysis. A number of descriptors are proposed as a result of the analysis. In the paper, attempt of AE signals descriptors, archived under laboratory condition application possibilities for on-site PD diagnostics of power transformers during normal service is made.

Opis:
This paper provides an example of the application of the acoustic emission (AE) method for the diagnosis of technical conditions of a three-phase on-load tap-changer (OLTC) GIII type. The measurements were performed for an amount of 10 items of OLTCs, installed in power transformers with a capacity of 250 MVA. The study was conducted in two different OLTC operating conditions during the tapping process: under load and free running conditions. The analysis of the measurement results was made in both time domain and time-frequency domain. The description of the AE signals generated by the OLTC in the time domain was performed using the analysis of waveforms and determined characteristic times. Within the time-frequency domain the measured signals were described by short-time Fourier transform spectrograms.

Opis:
This article presents the results of research connected with the development and industrial use of vibroacoustic methods for the evaluation of the technical condition of the active part of transformers. The article presents the results of the analysis of vibrations generated by the high power transformer in which a defect was found on the basis of tests of oil carried out using the chromatography tests. In order to confirm the damage of the active part of this transformer, vibroacoustic measurements were performed in three states of its operation. The measurement using the classical vibroacoustic method included the registration of vibrations at the idle speed and during the load operation of the transformer. The original diagnostic method, so-called the modified vibroacoustic method, was also used during the measurement. The analysis of signals recorded using the classical vibroacoustic method was carried out in the frequency domain by indicating the amplitude of even harmonic vibrations. However, the analysis of signals measured during the commissioning of the transformer was conducted in the time-frequency domain using the short-time Fourier transform (STFT), continuous wavelet transform (CWT), and discrete wavelet transform (DWT). On the basis of the analysis of the results obtained it was stated that the increased level of vibrations of this transformer is a consequence of the loss of rigidity of the mechanical structure of its core.

Opis:
An alternative method for analysis of acoustic emission (AE) signals generated by partial discharges (PD), based on a correlation between voltage phase run and AE pulses, so called phase resolved PD pattern (PRPD), is presented in the paper. PRPD pattern is a well-known analysis tool commonly used in such PD diagnostic methods as conventional electrical and UHF ones. Moreover, it yields various signal analysis abilities and allows a direct correlation indication between measurement results achieved using different methods. An original PRPD measurement methodology applied for AE method as well as some exemplary measurement results and further data analysis capabilities are presented in the paper. Also a comparative analysis of PRPD patterns achieved using various measurement methods and different PD source configurations have been investigated. All presented experiments were done under laboratory conditions using PD model sources immersed in the insulation oil. The main purpose of the presented research is to indicate an all-embracing analytical tool that yields an ability to direct comparison (qualitative as well as quantitative) of the AE measurement results with other commonly applied PD measurement methods. The presented results give a solid fundamental for further research work concerning a direct correlation method for AE and other described in the paper diagnostic techniques, mainly in order to continue PD phenomena analysis and assessment in real life high voltage apparatus insulation systems under normal onsite operation conditions.

Opis:
Results of thermographic monitoring of exemplary power transformers are presented in the paper. Series of thermograms were taken. The areas on the transformer surfaces were analysed for higher temperature in aspects of: the electrical insulation condition of the transformer, the area on the surface, the season of the measurement. The thermograms indicated inefficient cooling for the transformers with deteriorated electrical insulation, especially during the summer season.

This paper is focused application of chosen thermal non-contact and contact methods for quality diagnostics of the transformer windings. In the first part of the paper it examines basic principles and application of non-contact temperature measurement on power transformers by thermovision. The second part is focused on analysis of thermal processes in distribution transformer. In the finally, it is examined experimental measurement on laboratory transformer with task to detect mechanical strength and subsequently short-circuit resistance of its winding. By means of the experimental measurements and following analysis it was showed the practical thermovision and contact thermal measurement by optical detectors for diagnostics of power oil transformers in field mechanical strength of winding material.

Opis:
The beam intensity (number of particles forming the beam) in the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is measured by eight current transformers. The average beam current is monitored by the four DC Current Transformers (DCCTs) and the range from a few hundred hertz to over a gigahertz is covered by the four Fast Beam Current Transformers (FBCTs). During the early run of the LHC the beam intensity measured by the FBCTs was observed to be correlated to the beam position and charge distribution. To address the consequential limitations a prototype of an Integrating Current Transformer (ICT) has been developed at CERN as a possible future replacement of the FBCTs. In this article, its design, principle of operation along with results of first beam tests are presented. The measured beam-position-dependency of the ICT has been improved, compared to the FBCT, by a factor of 35 and 50 in the vertical and horizontal planes, respectively.
