    Opis:
    This paper focuses on a better understanding of the process of reflective cracking propagation through the pavement structure. A series of finite element numerical simulations were conducted to investigate the initial stress and strain states in typical semi-rigid pavements with and without reflective cracks under traffic loading. It was assumed that reflective-cracks propagate from the base layer to the pavement surface. The influence of selected parameters, such as the load position, overlay thickness, and subgrade quality on stress and strain concentrations was investigated. The behaviour of the pavement structure under repeated traffic loading was analyzed in terms of ground compaction. The original theoretical model proposed by Prof. Andrzej Sawicki was used to predict the deformation of a pavement subgrade subjected to traffic loading. The damaging effect of cracks appearing in the pavement structure was investigated. It was found that even a single crack in the pavement structure may significantly reduce the pavement lifetime.

    Opis:
    The article deals with some issues related with the travel demand modelling in dense street networks. Estimation of the trip distribution usually presented in a form of O-D matrix has been described as one of the most important stages of this process. The field of interest includes a short review as well as classification of the most popular and applicable methods in this area. The main emphasis has been placed on dynamic approach based on traffic counts. Advanced technologies used in traffic management systems should rely on real up-to-date and exact not only average travel demand information that provides efficient results. All above makes a background to formulate some assumptions for the original concept of the O-D matrix estimation.
    Określenie rozkładu przestrzennego ruchu, przedstawianego w postaci kwadratowej macierzy O-D, stanowi jeden z najważniejszych etapów procesu modelowania podróży w gęstych sieciach ulic. W artykule zamieszczono krótki przegląd oraz klasyfikację najczęściej wykorzystywanych metod wyznaczania macierzy podróży ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem metod o charakterze dynamicznym, opartych na pomiarach natężeń ruchu, które mogą być stosowane w efektywnym zarządzaniu ruchem w mieście. W przypadku gęstych sieci klasyczne metody wyznaczania macierzy O-D często są drogie i czasochłonne, a uzyskane na ich podstawie wyniki szybko się dezaktualizują ze względu na zmienny charakter systemu transportowego i jego otoczenia. W związku z tym coraz częściej wykorzystuje się dodatkowe tańsze źródła informacji i techniki budowy macierzy podróży. W czasach coraz bardziej powszechnego monitoringu obszarów miejskich informacja o aktualnym natężeniu ruchu na poszczególnych odcinkach sieci ulic staje się ważną wielkością, na podstawie której można wyznaczać macierze rozkładu przestrzennego ruchu. W artykule przedstawiono także koncepcję dynamicznego określania macierzy podróży w gęstych sieciach ulic.

    The initial part of the paper characterizes major research activities at the Department of Railway Engineering and Track Management (DRETM), Faculty of Civil Engineering, University of Žilina. Subsequently, it outlines the state of art in the field of track substructure dimensioning for the non-traffic load in Slovakia and abroad. The second part of the paper deals with the method of collecting input parameters for numerical modeling of the track substructure freezing using SoilVision software. The following part of the paper compares the results of the track substructure freezing obtained by experimental measurements and numerical modeling in the winter of 2016/2017. The final part of the paper focuses on the results of numerical modeling of the track substructure freezing in terms of the climatic conditions typical of railway infrastructure in the Slovak territory. Moreover, it presents a design of a modified nomogram for determination of the necessary thickness of the frost-susceptible subgrade surface layer and characterizes further related research activities planned to be implemented at the Department in the near future.

    Opis:
    The seismic elastomeric bearings reinforced with fibre is considered as a new technology in comparison to other conventional isolator systems in civil engineering. In this type of bearing, recycled fibres replaced traditional steel plates used in common bearings. Therefore, this type of bearing has been studied in recent years due to both environmental and cost-saving advantages. The shortage of references about the application of this type of bearing in the bridge industry, and particularly the continuous-span bridges, prompted the researchers in this study to investigate the performance of the isolated reinforced concrete box girder bridges with continuous spans. Reducing the acceleration transmission from the substructure to the superstructure is one of the main advantages of using seismic bearings. Based on the study of the structural models, it was found that, in most cases, elastomeric bearings reinforced with fibres showed a suitable performance and reduced the acceleration applied to the superstructure by absorbing the earthquake energy.
