Opis:
Using the example of one section of a railway line, the effect of various factors on breaks in train service has been analysed. The types, number and duration of breakdowns, as well as their influence on both passenger and goods trains service have been specified. The traffic capacity of a railway line is related to the possibility of meeting the timetable, which is therefore affected by all breaks. It is very important to know the type of breakdowns, their number and influence on a railway line capacity as well as their causes.
Na przykładzie jednego odcinka linii kolejowej przeanalizowano wpływ różnych czynników na przerwy w ruchu pociągów. Wyszczególniono rodzaje awarii, liczbę oraz czas ich trwania, a także ich wpływ na kursowanie pociągów osobowych i towarowych. Przepustowość linii kolejowej dotyczy możliwości zrealizowania rozkładu jazdy i dlatego wszystkie przerwy mają wpływ na jego planowość. Bardzo istotna jest również wiedza nie tylko o rodzaju, liczbie awarii i ich wpływie na przepustowość linii kolejowej, ale również przyczyny ich powstawania.

Every increase in traffic volume on road network in towns can lead to overcrowding of road network. This results in undesirable external costs such as traffic congestions, which cause high loses in time during transportation, increased fuel consumption and thus higher production of greenhouse gases and noise. This all ultimately reduces the attractiveness of the area. The increase of traffic volume and therefrom derived traffic problems are needed to be solved during traffic-capacity assessment of every larger investment. The software can help to assess increased traffic in solved area and thus help authorities to make a right decision during approving of the investment plan. This article is focused on comparison of two software – Aimsun and OmniTrans, and calculations according to Webster and technical regulations for assessing junction capacity in the Slovak Republic. The packages outputs are also compared to the measured data at the assessed junction in this article. The analysis showed that outputs of various tools differ, generally all packages showed higher delays compared to measured data at the main road and lower delays compared to measured data at the side roads.
Chaque augmentation du volume de trafic sur le réseau routier dans les villes peut conduire à la surcharge du réseau routier. Il en résulte des coûts externs indésirables tels que des embouteillages, qui provoquent de grands retards pendant le transport, augmentation de la consommation de carburant et donc la production plus élevée de l'effet de serre et du bruit. Finalement, cela réduit l'attractivité de la région. Cette augmentation du volume de trafic et des problèmes de circulation en dérivés devraient être résolues par l'évaluation des capacités de trafic des impacts de chaque investissement plus important. En faisant cette évaluation, il est possible d'utiliser des logiciels qui aident à évaluer des effets de l'augmentation du trafic dans la zone observée et donc ils aident les autorités compétentes à prendre les bonnes décisions. Cet article se concentre sur la comparaison des deux logiciels – Aimsun et Omnitrans, et la comparaison des calculs selon Webster et selon des règlements techniques pour l’évaluation des capacités de communications terrestres de la République slovaque. Les sorties des instruments individuels sont en outre comparées avec les données mesurées mesurées.

In this study, an attempt was made to determine the interdependencies between individual parameters of urban logistic networks. As a result of the literature review, a research gap was identified indicating the lack of precise reference to the dependencies between selected road infrastructure elements. The collected information is of key importance for IT systems supporting the management of urban infrastructure in the area of Intelligent Traffic Systems (ITS). The impact of the number of lanes on average travel speeds broken down into rush hours and off-peak hours has been analysed. The conducted research allowed the authors to determine the degree of influence of the number of lanes on the road capacity and the average speed of vehicles. The results of the analyses can be used to power integrated systems for city traffic management and affect the shape of the new road infrastructure design.

Traffic capacity is an important index to measure the operation efficiency of expressway toll stations. In order to provide relevant theoretical support for accurately evaluating the congestion degree and service level of toll stations, this paper establishes a traffic capacity calculation model for the square in front of expressway toll stations based on the traditional cellular transmission method. Firstly, by dividing the square in front of the station into regular cells, the process of calculating the traffic capacity is simplified; Secondly, the capacity model of the square in front of the station is established based on cellular transmission, and a large amount of data is collected through the monitoring videos of several toll stations. The theoretical capacity of the square in front of the station is calculated by using the important parameters of the model calibrated by the measured data under different lengths of the square in front of the station and the configuration of toll lanes. Then, the simulation platform of VISSIM software is used, and many experiments are carried out with relevant measured data to verify the accuracy of the model in multiple scenarios. Finally, the simulation value of the capacity of the square in front of the station is obtained, and the error is calculated by using the simulation value and the calculation value. The results show that the error of the verification result is 5.19%, and the error is within the allowable range, which shows that the model is accurate and feasible. The theoretical capacity calculated by the capacity model of the square in front of the toll station established in this paper is compared with the actual capacity, which can be used as a standard to judge the congestion degree of the square in front of the toll station and further provide a theoretical reference for evacuation of congestion.

There is a conflict between through motor vehicles and the left-turn non-motorized vehicles, and the capacity of straight-line motor vehicles decreases. This study analyzes the impacts of left-turn non-motorized vehicles on the capacity of through motor vehicle lanes. A correction coefficient model for calculating the reduced capacity of through motor vehicle lanes has been developed based on analysis of the conflicting points at an intersection and the negative exponential function of traffic flow distribution. With consideration of intersection geometric design, channelization, and traffic characteristics, the cor-rection coefficient model was further enhanced by regression to capture the impacts of left-turn non-motorized vehicles from the same and the opposite directions. A simulation with VISSIM is used to validate the developed model. It shows that the calculated capacity from the correction coefficient model is close to the simulation results. The experiment indicates that the derived model is highly accurate in calculating the capacity of through motor vehicle lanes and has potential application for situations of mixed traffic in China. The study shows that the capacity of a through traffic lane at the permitted phase decreases with the increase of left-turning non-motorized vehicles, and the impact of left-turning non-motorized vehicles from the same direction is more significant. The results show that the traffic capacity of straight-line motor vehicle decreases with the increase of the left-turn non-motorized vehicles flow rate and the influence of the left-turn non-motor vehicle is more obvious. It is suggested that in practice, the correction coefficient of non-motor vehicle on the left turn should be 0.88, and the correction coefficient on the left turn should be 0.95, respectively. The study recommends coefficient values for both non-motorized vehicles from the same and opposite directions for use in real applications.

Port capacity is a relevant parameter to estimate the expected performance of a port facility. Many simulation models have been used to predict traffic in ports and waterways, but they do not include provisions for estimating the port’s capacity. The innovative method presented here determines a Port Network Traffic Capacity (PNTC) based on simulation. This method estimates PNTC given the configuration and processing characteristics of the port. It can be a useful tool to apply while designing ports, because only a limited number of simulations are required to estimate of the capacity of the infrastructure under consideration.

Motorways and expressways are the core of each country’s road system. Road planning, design and management requires tools to ensure that roads have the right geometry, traffic layout and equipment. These include methods for capacity estimation and assessing traffic conditions. Because the paper focusses on the basic segments of motorways and expressways (sections located between interchanges and outside of their influence), its objective is to review and compare methods used worldwide and establish whether their assumptions or procedures could be used in Polish conditions. Four methods were selected for analysis: US, German, Swedish and Dutch. Theoretical and empirical comparisons were conducted, with the latter using data from sections of motorways and expressways in Poland collected in the RID-2B project. The results of the analyses showed important differences between the methods in terms of procedures for traffic conditions assessment, assumptions, base capacities, traffic conditions measures, factors or speed-flow models. Significant differences were also found when traffic parameter estimates made with particular methods were compared to real data from Polish roads. The results contributed to the development of Poland’s new method, to be prepared as a result of the RID-2B project. It was concluded that none of the analysed methods can be directly adopted to Polish conditions. An important conclusion is the need to include Poland-specific motorway speed limits and procedure for determining free-flow speed, the basis for further analyses.

Paper presents validation of previously created stochastic ships traffic stream model by the real data of ships delays on Świnoujście — Szczecin waterway. The model is mostly based on Monte Carlo methodology. The model is microscopic which means that each ship’s model is treated as separate object possessing given attributes. As the main parameter of presented validation total waiting (delay) time of ships have been applied. The time of ships delays was possessed from Szczecin VTS centre and compared with the model output.
W artykule przedstawiono wyniki walidacji wcześniej stworzonego stochastycznego modelu strumienia ruchu statków przez porównanie z rzeczywistymi danymi o opóźnieniu statków na drodze wodnej Świnoujście — Szczecin. Model został zbudowany w oparciu o metodologię Monte Carlo. Jest to model z kategorii „mikroskopowych”, co oznacza, że każdy statek jest traktowany jako odrębny obiekt, cechujący się indywidualnymi atrybutami. Jako główny parametr walidacji przyjęto całkowity czas oczekiwania (opóźnienia) statków. Czas definiujący opóźnienie statków został pozyskany z centrum VTS Szczecin i porównany z wynikami modelowymi.

The method for the choice of rational regimes of traffic light control is developed based on the minimization of the number of violations the requirements of traffic light signals by pedestrians depending on the volume-capacity ratio of traffic lanes and control of vehicular queue on the approach to the stop-line. Assessment of rationality is carried out considering the simultaneous impact of such factors as roadway volume-capacity ratio, traffic light restrictive signal duration, the number of violations of the traffic rules by pedestrians, and maximal queue length of vehicles. The model of the change of the number of violations of the rules of crossing the roadway by pedestrians depending on the volume-capacity ratio of different intersection types is developed in this paper. The model of determining the maximal vehicular queue length before intersections depending on the volume-capacity ratio and the share of the restrictive signal on the lane in the control cycle is developed. Recommendations about the choice of rational regimes of traffic light control depending on traffic delay, planning parameters of the road network, and pedestrian behavior are proposed.

Generally speaking, cargo demand traffic forecasts are needed tools to rationalize the investment decisions in ports. However, little studies have been carried out in determining the magnitude of container cargo traffic at Nigerian ports, this creates a lacuna that needs to be filled up. The purpose of this study is to ascertain the spatial and temporal dimensions of container traffic in Nigerian seaports from 1990 to 2017. The study uses a survey design and employed descriptive and multivariate statistics to analyze the data. It demonstrates that Nigeria imports lots of commodities in containers than it exports in containers because most of the country’s exports are crude oil and non-containerized goods. Thus, the reason for traffic congestion at the ports and the high cost paid by Nigerian shippers for imported containerized cargo. The study further showed that both imported and exported container traffic had a positive trend in the time series. From the findings, we have shown the need for understanding the magnitude of container traffic at the ports as it helps Ports Authorities in operational decisions regarding port capacity utilization.

A detailed analysis of traffic conditions at the intersection allows us to obtain information about the efficiency of its operation. This type of analysis usually involves assessing the capacity and scale of the intersection and applying classical measures to assess its quality. In Poland, for this purpose, methods developed by the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways are used to estimate the capacity of intersections without traffic lights, intersections with traffic lights, and roundabouts. The paper presents the results of the analysis of traffic conditions at the intersection of Brzezinska and Nowochrzanowska Streets, located in Myslowice (Silesian Province, Poland). The paper also examines the findings on traffic safety at this intersection.

This paper constructs and settles a charging facility location problem with the link capacity constraint over a mixed traffic network. The reason for studying this problem is that link capacity constraint is mostly insufficient or missing in the studies of traditional user equilibrium models, thereby resulting in the ambiguous of the definition of road traffic network status. Adding capacity constraints to the road network is a compromise to enhance the reality of the traditional equilibrium model. In this paper, we provide a two-layer model for evaluating the efficiency of the charging facilities under the condition of considering the link capacity constraint. The upper level model in the proposed bi-level model is a nonlinear integer programming formulation, which aims to maximize the captured link flows of the battery electric vehicles. Moreover, the lower level model is a typical traffic equilibrium assignment model except that it contains the link capacity constraint and driving distance constraint of the electric vehicles over the mixed road network. Based on the Frank-Wolfe algorithm, a modified algorithm framework is adopted for solving the constructed problem, and finally, a numerical example is presented to verify the proposed model and solution algorithm.

Liquefied natural gas (LNG), as one of the main sources of clean energy, has witnessed great growth in marine transportation in recent years. Due to the potential catastrophic consequences in case of a vessel traffic accident, the guidelines of the design of an LNG Port and the regulation of traffic management require that a mobile safety zone be set up for the transit of an LNG carrier, that is, a moving safety area around the carrier that excludes other ship traffic. To study the impact of a safety zone on channel capacity, this paper has presented a mathematical model to calculate the impact ratio of a large LNG ship on channel capacity considering different speeds and sailing modes. As a case study, an approach channel to a new LNG port that was developed in Yueqing bay, Zhejiang province, East China, has been analyzed during the concept design of the port with the aim of receiving ships with a capacity of 145,000 m3 . Based on the model, the impact ratio on the whole channel and the segmented channel when a carrier arrives at and leaves the berth has been calculated. The methodology can support the job of port design and vessel traffic management to improve the capacity, efficiency and safety of a waterway.

In comparison with the existing empirical models such as the LR942 regression model and German empirical model, the proposed regression model produced better estimates and much lower RMSE values. Approach width is found to have the highest impact on entry capacity. The entry capacity is found to be negatively influenced by entry angle. Circulating flow is considered in terms of per metre width against the usual convention. This modification incorporates the effect of circulatory roadway width also into consideration. The circulatory roadway width has a diverse effect on entry capacity at different levels of circulating flow. Modification of inscribed circle diameter and circulatory roadway width is suggested as a potential solution for improving entry capacity. Sensitivity analysis is carried out to quantify the effect of variation of entry angle, circulatory roadway width, inscribed circle diameter and approach width on entry capacity based on the non-linear model. The sensitivity plots can be used to make subtle geometric modifications to improve capacity at congested roundabouts.
