Opis:
The work is conducted on NTC (Negative Temperature Coefficient) thermistors. An influence of different type of the substrate (DP 951 and lead free ESL 41020) on basic electrical properties: sheet resistance at a room temperature, R = f(T) dependence, B constant and a long-term stability is analyzed. The resistance values are measured twenty times in the range from 25°C to 125°C at 5°C intervals, while temperature is recorded using Pt-100 resistor. Long-term stability is investigated by annealing at 150°C for 200 h.

Opis:
The lamination determines quality and geometry of the fabricated ceramic microsystems. The thermo-compression method is commonly used. In this technique the Low Temperature Co-Fired Ceramics (LTCC) tapes are joined together at high pressure and temperature. Cold Chemical Lamination (CCL) is presented in the paper. It is a solvent-base method used for green ceramic tape bonding. The tapes are covered by film of the special liquid. Then the ceramics are put in a stack and laminated at low pressure below 0.5 MPa. The lamination quality is investigated. The cross-section of the close chambers is examined by optical and Scanning Electron Microscopy. The solvent influences the basic electrical properties of the thermistors composition (ESL NTC-2114), sheet resistance at a room temperature, R=f(T) dependence, B constant and a long term stability is analysed. The lead free ESL 41020 tape is used during the experiment. The thermistor composition is screen printed on the LTCC substrate. The R=f(T) dependence is measured by the Agilent 34970A data acquisition unit. Long--term stability is investigated by annealing at 150°C for 200 h.

Opis:
The article presents a method of piston temperature measurement on a running engine using electromagnetic induction for transferring measurement results from a moving measuring system placed in a piston to a stationary system attached to the engine crankcase and to measuring system located outside the engine. Selected test results that were carried out on a single-cylinder Diesel engine are presented. A system consisting of a thermistor and a secondary coil was mounted in the piston. The primary coil was mounted in the crankcase under the cylinder liner of the engine. Engine tests were aimed at determining the influence of the piston ring insert on the temperature distribution in the piston. Temperature measurements in the piston without the ring insert were carried out for comparison. In both cases, the pistons had the same geometrical dimensions. The tests were carried out in conditions of external characteristics (the maximum load as a function of engine speed) and load characteristics (load changes at constant engine speed). The test results in the form of the temperature difference between the temperature of piston top and the temperature under the top compression ring indicate that the ring insert is a barrier to the heat flow from the piston to the engine cooling system. In addition, the results of the piston temperature measurements during the step change of the engine speed and its load to the nominal value are presented.

Opis:
In this paper we deal with an optimal control problem in coefficients for the system of two coupled elliptic equations, also known as the thermistor problem, which provides a simultaneous description of the electric field u = u(x) and temperature θ(x). The coefficients of the operator div (B(x)∇θ(x)) are used as the controls in L∞(Ω). The optimal control problem is to minimize the discrepancy between a given distribution θd ∈ Lr(Ω) and the temperature of thermistor θ ∈ W1,γ 0 (Ω) by choosing an appropriate anisotropic heat conductivity matrix B. Basing on the perturbation theory of extremal problems and the concept of fictitious controls, we propose an “approximation approach” and discuss the existence of the so-called quasi-optimal and optimal solutions to the given problem.

Opis:
NTC thermistors are frequently used low in cost temperature sensors which provide some of the most desirable sensing features. However, due to the nonlinear static transfer function their sensitivity decreases with temperature increase, causing lower measurement accuracy in some regions of the measurement range. This paper proposes a method for NTC thermistor nonlinearity compensation using a Wheatstone bridge and a novel dual-stage single-flash piecewise-linear ADC. Both conversion stages are performed using the same flash ADC of a novel design based on a reduced number of comparators employed. In this manner, simpler design, lower production costs, higher compactness and lower power consumption of the linearizing ADC, are achieved. The proposed linearizing method is tested on the Vishay NTCLE413E2103F520L thermistor, in the range from 0°C to 100°C, and the obtained results confirmed the effectiveness of the method in measurement accuracy improvement: when the flash ADC of 10-bit resolution is employed the accuracy obtained is 7.4747 ·10-5°C.

Opis:
A novel design of a circuit used for NTC thermistor linearization is proposed. The novelty of the proposed design consists in a specific combination of two linearization circuits, a serial-parallel resistive voltage divider and a two-stage piecewise linear analog-to-digital converter. At the output of the first linearization circuit the quasi-linear voltage is obtained. To remove the residual voltage nonlinearity, the second linearization circuit, i.e., a two-stage piecewise linear analog-to-digital converter is employed. This circuit is composed of two flash analog-to-digital converters. The first analog-to-digital converter is piecewise linear and it is actually performing the linearization, while the second analog-to-digital converter is linear and it is performing the reduction of the quantization error introduced by the first converter. After the linearization is performed, the maximal absolute value of a difference between the measured and real temperatures is 0.014°C for the temperature range between - 25 and 75°C, and 0.001°C for the temperature range between 10 and 40°C.
