Opis:
Krakow is a city facing a big problem with air pollution, the use of energy accumulated in groundwater may contribute to reducing emissions of gases and dust to the atmosphere. The article analyzes the possibilities of using groundwater made available with intakes located in Krakow. Estimated water temperatures were ranging from 7.9 to 9.7°C. The thermal power that can be obtained in groundwater varies for individual intakes and allows for obtaining thermal outputs from 0.395 to 1108.035 kW, according to calculations. The analysis of groundwater chemistry in the Krakow region and their comparison with the recommendations of heat pump manufacturers indicates that the use of water as a lower heat source may in some cases cause technical problems.

Opis:
The article discusses the physicochemical mechanisms of the effect of chemical reagents on the processes of swelling of the raw mixture based on the ash of thermal power plants. The process of structure formation in such mixtures occurs as a result of physicochemical transformations of its constituent components. To intensify gas evolution and obtain materials of a porous structure, the presence of a gas former is necessary. The author has analysed the possibility of creating a porous structure in a raw mixture based on ash with the introduction of various gas formers or their formation as a result of exchange reactions. The main chemical compounds contributing to pore formation have been determined. To form a given structure, it is proposed to control chemical transformations at the stage of swelling. To study the processes of intensification of gas evolution, the author proposes to investigate the mechanisms of the influence of mineral fillers and chemical reagents on swelling processes based on the analysis of the Gibbs equation. The parameters of the Gibbs equation are obtained, by which it is possible to determine the probability of the occurrence of chemical reactions with the proposed chemical agents for the formation of gas bubbles with (pores) in the raw material.

Opis:
Wastes of most marble types are distinguished with their superior CaCO3 content and potential to utilize them as an alternative to limestone. Control of SO2 using marble wastes in wet flue gas desulphurization (WFGD) units of coal fired thermal power plants is an important opportunity. In this study, nine types of marble wastes were evaluated in terms of their ability to dissolution (reactivity) in an acidic environment. The reactivity was expressed as fractional conversion with time with respect to the chemical composition and particle distribution of wastes as well as temperature and pH of solution. Dissolution reaction rate constants were also computed. Reactivity of the wastes varied significantly with chemical compositions of the marble types. The same marble type displayed different dissolution profiles as a function of test conditions (fineness, temperature, pH). Higher contents of CaCO3 and Fe2O3 positively influenced dissolution ability and rates, whereas increased MgCO3 content had adverse effects. The changes in particle size, temperature and pH influenced the reactivity. The reactivity increased with decreasing particle size. Also, higher temperature and increased acidity favored dissolution ability of the marble wastes. Our results showed that under optimized conditions marble wastes, having a higher content of CaCO3 and low content of MgCO3, are potential SO2 sorbent alternative.

Due to the ending resources of fossil fuels, as well as instability of the political situation on the world, especially in countries that are their main supplier, governments of poor countries in resources are forced to seek alternative sources of energy. Currently the most commonly used raw material to produce an electrical and thermal power in Poland are coal and lignite, However, in a result of an increase of their prices and an exacerbated by the EU of regulations about an emission of the greenhouse gas, emerged trends, that aim to transform the energy sector through the implementation of technologies based on alternative energy sources. The main focus is to put on renewable energy sources. The methodology, which is contained in this paper, presents a way to designation the demand of the biogas plant with CHP system on substrate of agricultural origin, the aim to obtain required electrical and thermal power. Moreover, the paper presents a simplified diagram of anaerobic fermentation, which is the basis of biogas production, as well as an illustrative diagram of a biogas plant with CHP system. In this paper also was mentioned the possibility of application biogas for transportation purposes.

This research article contributes to the challenge of global warming by presenting the approach of the use of green hydrogen to reduce greenhouse gases. It shows that CO2 emissions can be significantly reduced in thermal power plants by replacing natural gas with green hydrogen as a fuel. This work presents the techno-economic study of the energy transition of a 12 MW thermal power plant based on green hydrogen. The presented study is based on the energy consumption of Nigeria, 73% of which is covered by natural gas thermal power plants. The obtained results show that the cost of this transition is ca. 17 million dollars (USD) for a reduction of 114 tCO2 per plant with a return on investment between 4-5 years. In addition, through modeling and numerical simulation, this article shows that estimated return on investment can be shortened by using the thermal power resulting from the turbine, through industrial use.

Opis:
Thermal power plants (TPP) belong to the enterprises that accompany the development of any city. These industrial facilities consume and discharge large amounts of water. Therefore, thermal power plants are often located near water bodies that need to assess their ecological state and predict the consequences of the anthropogenic impact. The purpose of the work was to assess the ecological state of the floodplain Lake Ivanovskoye (Russia, Kirov region), which receives the wastewater from a thermal power plant, using a triadic approach and comparing the results of chemical analysis, bioassay and bioindication. It was shown that the main pollutant in the lake and the canal connecting Lake Ivanovskoye with the nearest river Vyatka is ammonium ion (up to 3.2 mg/dm3). In addition, the Russian standards for biological oxygen consumption are exceeded (analysis period is 20 days). The tests for the toxicity of wastewater showed inhibition of Paramecium caudatum and Escherichia coli reactions. In contrast, natural surface water from Lake Ivanovskoye stimulated the test functions of Scenedesmus quadricauda, P. caudatum, and E. coli. The death of Daphnia magna in the samples were not recorded. The totality of the facts pointed to the organic nature of pollution, leading to the anthropogenic eutrophication of the lake. The hypothesis was tested by using the bioindication method and by analyzing the totality of species of coastal aquatic plants. It was shown that the reservoir belongs to the mesotrophic type with a moderate degree of pollution, which decreases with distance from the wastewater discharge points. The increase in the trophicity of the reservoir is facilitated by thermal pollution (up to +15℃) and an alkaline pH of wastewater (up to 9.2). Thus, the joint analysis of the results of chemical analysis, bioassay and bioindication made it possible to carry out an objective assessment of the ecological state of the reservoir and identify the reasons for the revealed facts.

The objective of the study reported in this paper was to determine the effect of structure on thermal power of cast-iron heat exchangers which in this case were furnace chambers constituting the main component of household fireplace-based heating systems and known commonly as fireplace inserts. For the purpose of relevant tests, plate-shaped castings were prepared of gray iron with flake graphite in pearlitic matrix (the material used to date typically for fireplace inserts) as well as similar castings of gray cast iron with vermicular graphite in pearlitic, ferritic-pearlitic, and ferritic matrix. For all the cast iron variants of different structures (graphite precipitate shapes and matrix type), calorimetric measurements were carried out consisting in determining the heat power which is quantity representing the rate of heat transfer to the ambient environment. It has been found that the value of the observed heat power was affected by both the shape of graphite precipitates and the type of alloy matrix. Higher thermal power values characterize plate castings of gray iron with vermicular graphite compared to plates cast of the flake graphite gray iron. In case of plates made of gray cast iron with vermicular graphite, the highest values of thermal power were observed for castings made of iron with ferritic matrix.

Experimental studies on the dynamic sorption of model mixtures containing petroleum products were performed. The subject of the study was the modified sorbent from the ash-and-slag wastes accumulated in the ash dump of the Novocherkassk State District Power Plant (SDPP) (Russia, Novocherkassk, Rostov Region), obtained using the method of ash removal. The quantity of the sorbent for each model solution was fixed at 5.0 g. The model solutions in the amount of 1 dm3 were passed through a column filled with the modified sorbent at constant filtration rate w = const with filtrate takeout of 0.1 dm3/min. The pH value of the solution, which is advisable for extracting petroleum products, was determined experimentally. For this purpose, the model solutions, containing 100 mg/dm3 of petroleum products with pH = 1.65, 4.01, 6.86, 8.12, 9.18, and 11.34, were prepared. The optimum pH value of the solution was considered pH = 7.5. The content of petroleum products in the filtrate in all experiments was determined using IR spectrometry. The working range of water pollution with petroleum products was determined on a series of model solutions containing petroleum products in the range between 0.5 and 10 mg/dm3 with the increment of 0.5, between 10 and 100 mg/dm3 with the increment of 10, and between 100 and 1,000 mg/dm3 with the increment of 100. The maximum extraction of petroleum products from the solution was 88.23%. The applicability of the Henry’s law to the range of petroleum products concentrations in the filtrate of 50 mg/dm3 was confirmed. The adsorption equilibrium constant (Henry’s law constant) was determined experimentally. The effect of the natural freshwater matrix on the degree of petroleum products extraction was studied; no significant effect on petroleum products sorption was found. A conclusion was made that the sorbent can ensure the efficiency of water purifying from petroleum products of no less than 85% in the range of pollution between 5 and 300 mg/dm3.

This article reviews results of an experimental study aimed to evaluate the possibility of using ashes - solid wastes from combustion of brown coal in fluid and granulation boilers as one of the ingredients in ceramics production. Results of testing of the ashes from different combustion processes – combustion of slovak brown coal in granulation and fluid boilers and their usage as a components in dark ceramics showed partial usability in this field. These test consisted of firing the ashes in electric laboratory oven and in industrial fast firing oven. Sample (83) of brown coal fluid bed ash has low Fe content, material has light brown color at temperatures 1100 – 1190 °C after partial melting. Sample (84) with fluid fly ash has higher Fe content, resulting in dark brown color. Both of the samples from fluid combustion of coal require higher temperature for partial melting than 1190 °C. Sample (85) of stabilizate – product of desulphurization – was at the same temperature of 1100 °C completely molten. Sample (86) of granulation ash at the same temperature conditions expanded during firing. Results of this testing practice have proven, that tested ashes have high content of coloring oxides, mainly iron oxide, which results in red up to brown color of the ceramic material. Because of high CaO content in fluid ashes they can only be used as an additive of porous ceramic materials. Use of the tested ashes in compounds prepared using similar procedures as the industrial compounds resulted in higher suction capacity. Our tests have proven the possibility of using fluid bed ash as an opening material, fly ash as a partial replacement of opening material and melting ingredient, desulphurization product as a partial replacement of melting ingredient. Laboratory tests confirmed usability of granulation ashes as an ingredient in dark colored tile manufacture.

Opis:
The paper presents formulas which can be used to determine steam condensation pressure in a power plant condenser in off-design conditions. The mathematical model provided in the paper makes it possible to calculate the performance of the condenser in terms of condensing steam pressure, cooling water temperature at the condenser outlet, and condenser effectiveness under variable load conditions as a function of three input properties: the temperature and the mass flow rate of cooling water at the condenser inlet and the mass flow rate of steam. The mathematical model takes into account values of properties occurring in reference conditions but it contains no constant coefficients which would have to be established based on data from technical specifications of a condenser or measurement data. Since there are no such constant coefficients, the model of the steam condenser proposed in the paper is universally applicable. The proposed equations were checked against warranty measurements made in the condenser and measurement data gathered during the operation of a 200 MW steam power unit. Based on the analysis, a conclusion may be drawn that the proposed means of determining pressure in a condenser in off-design conditions reflects the condenser performance with sufficient accuracy. This model can be used in optimization and diagnostic analyses of the performance of a power generation unit.

Our aim was to create a (nonlinear) model able to predict on time possible changes in vibrations tendencies that can be early signal for system work deterioration. For that purpose, we compared two types of recurrent neural networks: historical Elman architecture and a recently developed kind of RNN named Echo stet networks (ESN). The preliminary investigations showed better approximation and faster training abilities of ESN in comparison to the Elman network. Direction of future work will be increasing of predications time horizon and inclusion of our predictor at lower level of a complex predictive maintenance system.

The article discusses the research on CO2 emissions at the stage of electric engine vehicle operation. The operation stage includes, among others use of the vehicle as well as maintenance and charging for the vehicle’s propulsion. The origin of the electricity consumed during charging has an impact on the vehicle’s emissions balance. The scope of considerations concerns coal as the main energy carrier in Poland. The obtained results can be a benchmark for comparing other primary energy sources used for electricity production. Based on the collected technical data of electric cars, the values of CO2 emission factors from electricity production in thermal power plants and data on the state and structure of electricity production in Poland, an analysis of CO2 emissions from electric vehicles in the operational stage was performed. The vehicle’s electricity consumption of 0.14–0.16 kWh/km is accompanied by CO2 emissions of 100.94–115.36 g/km. The calculated CO2 exceeds the EU limit value from 01/01/2020 (95 g/km) for average CO2 emissions from new passenger vehicles. The main message of the work is the statement that increasing the efficiency of the electricity generation process in commercial thermal power plants in Poland will translate into a reduction in the emission of electric cars consuming this energy for propulsion. The research shows that the change in the efficiency of energy transformations in a thermal power plant from 38% to 46% leads to a reduction in the emission of an electric vehicle by over 17%. The emission of CO2 from a passenger car with a compression-ignition engine is discussed. The considerations include the stage of the use of the vehicle and the stage of production of diesel oil, which is consumed during the use of the vehicle.
