Opis:
In this article, the buckling behavior and bifurcation point of Functionally Graded Piezoelectric (FGP) beams are investigated based on Euler-Bernoulli beam theory. The finite element method is employed to model the beam in thermal environment. The material properties of the beam are considered to vary gradually in the thickness direction and the beam is subjected to electrical and thermal loading. In this paper, direct and inverse piezoelectric effects are considered and buckling of the beam in the sensor state is investigated. By solving the eigenvalue problem, the buckling load of the FGP beam is obtained and the effect of various parameters such as power law index, temperature, applied voltage and beam aspect ratio on the buckling load are investigated. The results show that the boundary conditions are the main factor that affects the buckling load of the FGP beam.

A visual-visual dual computer task was designed to test the effect of the thermal environment on dual task performance. The temperatures selected for testing were 20 and 35 °C Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT). 34 volunteers were randomly assigned to 1 of the 2 temperature conditions. Individual differences in single task performance were controlled by equating the baselines of single task performance. Once individual differences in single task capacity were con-trolled, statistically significant differences in performance were demonstrated. Mean Accuracy was computed over a 1-hr testing period in each temperature condition. Participants’ mean accuracy in the 35° condition (38.18%) was substantially lower than in the 20° condition (50.88%).

Urbanization directly affects the existing infrastructure, landscape modification, environmental contamination and traffic pollution especially if there is lack of urban planning. Recently, the rapid urban sprawl has resulted in less developed green areas and has devastating environmental consequences. This study was aimed to study the past urban expansion rates and Measure LST from satellite data. The Land use land cover (LULC) maps of years 1996, 2010, 2013, and 2017 were generated using Landsat satellite images. Four main classes i.e. water, urban, bare land and vegetation were identified using unsupervised classification with iterative self-organizing data analysis (isodata) technique. The LST from satellite thermal data can be derived from different procedures:atmospheric, radiometric calibrations and surface emissivity corrections, classification of spatial changeability in land-cover. Different methods and formulas were used in the algorithm that successfully retrieves the land surface temperature to help us study the thermal environment of the ground surface. To verify the algorithm, the land surface temperature and the near-air temperature were compared. The results showed that, From 1996-2017 urban areas increased to about considerable increase of about 48%.few areas of city also shown in reduction in LST from year 1996-2017that actually began their transitional phase from rural to urban LULC.Mean temperature of city increased averagely about 1ºC each year in the month of October. The green and vegetative areas witnessed a decrease in area while higher number of pixels increased in urban class.

The paper presents a computational analysis of the PMV, PPD and PD thermal environment indices for indoor air quality (IAQ) inside a historic wooden church in the village of Wiśniowa. The study is based on annual measurements of indoor air parameters as well as data on the number of Sunday Mass attendees and indoor air quality. As the results point out, indoor thermal comfort during the majority of Sunday Masses, both in summer and winter, remains within category C while the indoor air quality, assessed by means of PD index, levelled at 100%, irrespective of time of year. The improvement of inside air comfort and hygienic standards is possible by means of installing an effective mechanical ventilation system adapted for use in a historic building of high value in terms of local material culture.

The paper analyses thermal sensations, preferences and acceptability as well as humidity sensations of students in the intelligent building "Energis" of the Kielce University of Technology (Poland). The tests were performed in 8 lecture rooms, during which the volunteers filled in the anonymous questionnaires (with 3 to 7 possible answers for each question) and – simultaneously – physical air parameters were measured with Testo 400 microclimate meter. The study aimed to determine if the intelligent building provides proper indoor environment conditions during the heating season and to assess the accuracy of the standard methodology for thermal comfort determination. Experimental analysis of thermal and humidity sensations revealed that a share of the respondents critically assessed the indoor environment: 17% regarding temperature and 30% regarding humidity. Moreover, the standard methodology for thermal comfort calculations proved overwhelmingly inaccurate compared to the experimental data (with the results for 6 rooms being beyond the 50% error range). Since smart buildings are still not very common in Central Europe, the experimental data obtained in the study can be valuable both from the scientific but also practical point of view – providing useful data for building engineers and designers.

The indoor environment of buildings significantly affects the well-being and health of room users. Experiencing thermal discomfort reduces concentration and productivity during study or work, causing drowsiness, fatigue or deterioration in general well-being. The study focuses on presenting the results of the questionnaire study on the symptoms of sick building syndromes (SBS), namely: dizziness, nausea, eye pain and nasal mucosa, experienced by 69 students during a lecture in a large and modern auditorium of Kielce University of Technology. The results show that many students experienced SBS symptoms, which seem to have affected their concentration during the class. The article also discusses the thermal sensations of the students with a focus on comparing the obtained results with the Fanger model of thermal comfort. The discrepancy between the model calculation results and the experimental data has been observed and discussed.

Opis:
Thermo-elastic deformations represent one of the main reasons for positioning errors in machine tools. Investigations of the thermo-mechanical behaviour of machine tools, especially during the design phase, rely mainly on thermo-elastic simulations. These require the knowledge of heat sources and sinks and assumptions on the heat dissipation via convection, conduction and radiation. Forced convection such as that caused by moving assemblies has both a large influence on the heat dissipation to the surrounding air. The most accurate way of taking convection into account is via computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations. These simulations compute heat transfer coefficients for every finite element on the machine tool surface, which can then be used as boundary conditions for accurate thermo-mechanical simulations. Transient thermo-mechanical simulations with moving assemblies thus require a CFD simulation during each time step, which is very time-consuming. This paper presents an alternative by using characteristic diagrams to interpolate the CFD simulations. The new method uses precomputed thermal coefficients of a small number of load cases as support points to estimate the convection of all relevant load cases (i.e. ambient conditions). It will be explained and demonstrated on a machine tool column.

Decoupling approach presents a novel solution/alternative to the highly time-consuming fluid-thermal-structural simulation procedures when thermal effects and resultant displacements on machine tools are analyzed. Using high dimensional Characteristic Diagrams (CDs) along with a Clustering Algorithm that immensely reduces the data needed for training, a limited number of CFD simulations can suffice in effectively decoupling fluid and thermal-structural simulations. This approach becomes highly significant when complex geometries or dynamic components are considered. However, there is still scope for improvement in the reduction of time needed to train CDs. Parallel computation can be effectively utilized in decoupling approach in simultaneous execution of (i) CFD simulations and data export, and (ii) Clustering technique involving Genetic Algorithm and Radial Basis Function interpolation, which clusters and optimizes the training data for CDs. Parallelization reduces the entire computation duration from several days to a few hours and thereby, improving the efficiency and ease-of-use of decoupling simulation approach.

Opis:
Thermo-elastic effects contribute the most to positioning errors in machine tools especially in operations where high precision machining is involved. When a machine tool is subjected to changes in environmental influences such as ambient air temperature, velocity or direction, then flow (CFD) simulations are necessary to effectively quantify the thermal behaviour between the machine tool surface and the surrounding air (fluid). Heat transfer coefficient (HTC) values effectively represent this solid-fluid heat transfer and it serves as the boundary data for thermo-elastic simulations. Thereby, deformation results can be obtained. This two-step simulation procedure involving fluid and thermo-structural simulations is highly complex and time-consuming. A suitable alternative for the above process can be obtained by introducing a clustering algorithm (CA) and characteristic diagrams (CDs) in the workflow. CDs are continuous maps of a set of input variables onto a single output variable, which are trained using data from a limited number of CFD simulations which is optimized using the clustering technique involving genetic algorithm (GA) and radial basis function (RBF) interpolation. The parameterized environmental influences are mapped directly onto corresponding HTC values in each CD. Thus, CDs serve as look-up tables which provide boundary data (HTC values along with nodal information) under several load cases (combinations of environmental influences) for thermo-elastic simulations. Ultimately, a decoupled fluid-structural simulation system is obtained where boundary (convection) data for thermo-mechanical simulations can be directly obtained from CDs and would no longer require fluid simulations to be carried out again. Thus, a novel approach for the correction of thermo-elastic deformations on a machine tool is obtained.

The results of GC-MS investigations of biomarkers in organic matter from the epicontinental Permian and Triassic strata of the Holy Cross Mts. indicate generally suboxic (Permian) and oxic (Triassic, except for the Middle Muschelkalk) depositional environments with accompanying intensive bacterial reworking of organic remains. The biomarker spectra found in the Middle Muschelkalk and in the Entolium discites Beds (Upper Muschelkalk) show the presence of gammacerane, an increased concentration of C34 homohopanes and a Pr/Ph ratio not exceeding 1. All these observations suggest a hypersaline sedimentary environment with water column stratification and poorly oxygenated conditions. Thermal maturity investigations were based on both vitrinite reflectance and biomarker indices. The organic matter in the Triassic succession is slightly more mature along the northern margin of the Holy Cross Mts. than along their southern part, due probably to a regional increase in the maximum burial depth during the Mesozoic. The maturity of the Permian strata at Gałęzice (southern Holy Cross Mts.) is similar to that of the Triassic rocks whereas Kajetanów (in the north) is characterised by values significantly higher and comparable to those found in wells further north. The difference cannot be accounted for solely by differential burial depths, and implies the existence of a positive thermal anomaly active before the Middle Triassic. Our investigations generally confirmed the low thermal maturity of the Triassic. However, contrary to earlier interpretations, we suggest that the maximum burial depths based on a reconstructed thickness of the post-Triassic deposits may account for the observed maturity levels, assuming that geothermal gradients in the Mesozoic were similar to today's.

Influence of environment, temperature and time of the thermal modification of ash wood (Fraxinus excelsior L.) on the cellulose weight average degree of polymerization . Using the size-exclusion chromatography (HPLC SEC) method, the weight average degree of cellulose polymerization was determined. The polymer was isolated by the Kürschner-Hoffer method from ash wood (Fraxinus excelsior L.). The wood was thermally modified in different environments (nitrogen, steam and air) at 190°C and modification times of 2, 6 and 10 hours. Depending on the anaerobic atmosphere used, the highest values of the weight average degree of cellulose polymerization were obtained for the nitrogen environment, followed by steam and air. The effect of modification time on the weight average degree of polymerization was observed. The highest values were obtained for wood modified at 2 hours, then 6 and 10 hours of modification. The native wood showed the highest degree of polymerization. On the basis of the results obtained, it can be concluded that for the material studied the oxidation and degradation reactions occurring depend on the environment and time for a given temperature of wood modification.
Wpływ środowiska, temperatury i czasu modyfikacji termicznej drewna jesionu wyniosłego (Fraxinus excelsior L.) na wagowo średni stopień polimeryzacji celulozy. Wykorzystując metodę chromatografii wykluczania przestrzennego (HPLC SEC), wyznaczono wagowo średni stopień polimeryzacji celulozy. Polimer wyodrębniono metodą Kürschnera-Hoffera z drewna jesionu wyniosłego (Fraxinus excelsior L.). Drewno poddano modyfikacji termicznej w różnym środowisku (azot, para wodna i powietrze) w temperaturze 190°C i czasach modyfikacji wynoszących 2, 6 i 10 godzin.

The problem of harmful casting resins has been present in foundries for many years. Manufacturers are introducing new products that contain in their composition environmentally and eco-friendly ingredients. Unfortunately, not all types of technology can be used, sometimes environmental benefits are disproportionate to the quality of castings and their price. In the foundry industry, the most popular binders are based on organic compounds (often carcinogenic) and other harmful substances. Due to strict legal regulations regarding environmental protection, as well as care for the foundry's workers' comfort - their occurrence should be reduce to a minimum. These compounds often behave also depending on the conditions of use (temperature, atmosphere). The application of various methods of thermal analysis and spectroscopic methods allows to verify the mechanism of resin decomposition process in relation to conditions in the form in both inert and oxidizing atmosphere. For analysis the resins from cold-box technology, were used TG–DTG–DSC, Py-GC/MS methods and specified the course of changes occurring in combination of different atmosphere.
